Buda Castle (Hungarian: Budavári Palota, German: Burgpalast, Turkish: Budin Kalesi) is the historical castle and palace complex of the Hungarian kings in Budapest, and was first completed in 1265. In the past, it has been called Royal Palace and Royal Castle.
Buda Castle was built on the southern tip of Castle Hill, bounded on the north by what is known as the Castle District (Várnegyed), which is famous for its Medieval, Baroque, and 19th-century houses, churches, and public buildings. It is linked to Clark Ádám Square and the Széchenyi Chain Bridge by the Castle Hill Funicular.

Zamek Królewski w Budapeszcie - siedziba węgierskich królów w Budapeszcie, została zbudowana w 1265 roku. W przeszłości nazywana była Pałac Królewski lub Zamek Królewski.
Zamek Królewski został wybudowany na południowym krańcu wzgórza zamkowego, ograniczony od północy przez dzielnicę zamkową (Várnegyed). Wzgórze zamkowe jest skomunikowane z placem Clark Ádám oraz z Mostem Łańcuchowym (Széchenyi) dzięki połączeniu kolejką linową. Zamek został wpisany na listę Światowego Dziedzictwa UNESCO w 1987 roku.

We are in Budapest the capital city of Hungary. My wife and I were here for a 4-5 day long weekend during the Easter in April. This footage is of the Funicular Railway which was opened on March 2, 1870.
The Funicular train or Budavári Sikló as it is called in Hungarian connects the Adam Clark Square and the Széchenyi Chain Bridge with the higher lying absolutely must see Budapest Tourist attraction, The Budapest Castle (Budapest Palace). The Funicular cable car is operated by the Budapest public transport company the BKK, but even though my wife and I had a Budapest 72 Hour Tourist card which entitled us to unlimited public transport we still had to pay the fee to ride this rather unique cable train. The price was not very much and I think that the Budapest Card even allowed for a discount. We bought a return ticket to the top of the Buda Castle Hill and back. The view at the top is breathtaking and this is definitely a Must see Budapest attraction / Must try Budapest attraction (the Buda Castle in itself is the top attraction in Budapest or at least on the top of the top attractions list).
From the top of the hill the views of the Danube River with the Chain Bridge (Széchenyi) passing over it, not to mention the parliament building the cathedral and grand luxury hotels such as the Four Seasons or the French Luxury Hotel Chain, The Sofitel. This is a fantastic place to view the city of Budapest in both daylight and just as breathtaking with the cities night lights turned on.
And now for a little Technical information:
The Funicular Tram's railway line is 95 meters long and ies at a height of 51 meters. The railway is operated with two Double Decker Tram Cars with a capacity of 24 passengers per car. The two tram trains are named "Margit" and "Gellert".

A funicular, also known as an inclined plane or cliff railway, is a cable railway in which a cable attached to a pair of tram-like vehicles on rails moves them up and down a steep slope; the ascending and descending vehicles counterbalance each other.
Funicular Tram Railroads are quite common around Europe and around the world. Some of European oldest Funicular cable cars can be tried in Austria (Festungsbahn from 1892), Czech Republic (Petřín funicular from 1891).

The Buda castle is one of the most famous and most visited sights of Budapest , It is a Unesco World Heritage location, offering many interesting attractions, museums, evocative streets, squares, restaurants and shops.
He Royal Palace is one of the symbols of the country. It has seen many battles and wars since the 13 th century. In its buildings there are three museums and it also gives home to the Széchenyi Library. The nearby, beautifully renovated Sándor Palace is the residence and workplace of the Head of the State. The 700-year-old Matthias Church is the jewel of the Hungarian capital. The Fishermans Bastion is not only a special and characteristic building but also an excellent point from where the view of the city is spectacular; visitors from all over the world are attracted to it.
After an unexpected, devastating attack by the Mongols the first citizens of Buda moved to the hills in the middle of the 13 th century. Later the royal court was relocated to the Southern end of the mountain that is when the quarter began to boom. Buda became one of the most significant cities of Europe by the 14th century, the population was around 8000. It slowly declined during the Turkish rule, which started in 1541, and little remained of it after the liberating siege (1686) with 75 days of cannon fire. The Austrian authorities could count but 300 inhabitants in the city. It was later rebuilt, and the street lines were not changed, but most two-storey buildings had only one storey from then on. They built a Baroque town, hiding the ruins behind thick walls. It was under siege again in 1849, and then rebuilt again to host Hungarian ministries. After a long and peaceful period, it was reduced to ruins again in January 1945. Several Medieval remnants were uncovered during cleaning up the ruins, and these remnants were not walled up again. Based on the traces, the walls must have been coloured everywhere.

One of the most magnificent sights of Budapest is Buddha castle with its many monuments which is internationally unique and a part of world heritage. The castle hill rises 60m above the banks of the Danube providing a marvelous view either of the river and -- or Gellert Hill. The castle used to be the residence of Hungarian sovereigns for centuries though intermittently. Today, it serves cultural and tourist purposes. The Szechenyi national library, the Hungarian state archives and the board of monumental buildings are all located here. The castle theater and several museums such as the military history museum, the Budapest historical museum, the institute of music and the Hungarian national gallery are also situated here together with the museum of commerce and catering and even a museum of pharmacy.
Entering the castle district through the Viennese gate, first we catch sight of the evangelical church of Buddha castle then passing the colossal palace of the state archives, we reach the ruins of Mary Magdalena Church. The garrison chapel built 750 years ago was destroyed during the Second World War and only its tower survived. There's a garden of ruins behind it. The -- side of the 1.5km long castle district is a pleasant promenade. The houses originate from various historical eras and represent different architectural styles yet create an entirely harmonious impression. Thanks to the careful renovation of the monuments, several houses have partially or wholly regained their medieval look. From under the plasterwork of the baroque or classicist buildings, medieval fragments, window frames or column capitals are showing. The characteristic feature of the houses here is the gothic niche with seat. Opinions vary with regard to its purpose. Nevertheless, it is likely that guards used to use it as a resting point.

Buda
Buda (Hungarian pronunciation: [ˈbudɒ]) is the former capital of the Kingdom of Hungary and the western part of the current Hungarian capital Budapest on the west bank of the Danube. Buda comprises about one-third of Budapest's complete territory and is mostly wooded and hilly. Notable landmarks include the Buda Castle and the Citadella. The Hungarian president's residence, Sándor Palace, is also in Buda.
Demographics
The Buda fortress and palace were built by King Béla IV of Hungary. in 1247, and were the nucleus round which the town of Buda was built, which soon gained great importance, and became in 1361 the capital of Hungary.
While Pest was mostly Hungarian in the 15th century, Buda had a German majority; however according to the Hungarian Royal Treasury, it had a Hungarian majority with a sizeable German minority in 1495. Buda became part of Ottoman-ruled central Hungary from 1541 to 1686. It was known as Budin Eyalet during the Ottoman era. The Ottoman Empire settled Serbian settlers in the nearby areas of the city. The original Christian citizens of the city (Germans and Hungarians) fled.

We are in Budapest the capital city of Hungary. My wife and I were here for a 4-5 day long weekend during the Easter in April. This footage is of the Funicular Railway which was opened on March 2, 1870. The Funicular train or Budavári Sikló as it is called in Hungarian connects the Adam Clark Square and the Széchenyi Chain Bridge with the higher lying absolutely must see Budapest Tourist attraction, The Budapest Castle (Budapest Palace). The Funicular cable car is operated by the Budapest public transport company the BKK, but even though my wife and I had a Budapest 72 Hour Tourist card which entitled us to unlimited public transport we still had to pay the fee to ride this rather unique cable train. We are in Budapest the capital city of Hungary. My wife and I were here for a 4-5 day long weekend during the Easter in April. This footage is of the Funicular Railway which was opened on March 2, 1870.

The price was not very much and I think that the Budapest Card even allowed for a discount. We bought a return ticket to the top of the Buda Castle Hill and back. The view at the top is breathtaking and this is definitely a Must see Budapest attraction / Must try Budapest attraction (the Buda Castle in itself is the top attraction in Budapest or at least on the top of the top attractions list).

And now for a little Technical information:
The Funicular Tram's railway line is 95 meters long and ies at a height of 51 meters. The railway is operated with two Double Decker Tram Cars with a capacity of 24 passengers per car. The two tram trains are named "Margit" and "Gellert".

We are in Budapest the capital city of Hungary. My wife and I were here for a 4-5 day long weekend during the Easter in April. This footage is of the Funicular Railway which was opened on March 2, 1870.
The Funicular train or Budavári Sikló as it is called in Hungarian connects the Adam Clark Square and the Széchenyi Chain Bridge with the higher lying absolutely must see Budapest Tourist attraction, The Budapest Castle (Budapest Palace). The Funicular cable car is operated by the Budapest public transport company the BKK, but even though my wife and I had a Budapest 72 Hour Tourist card which entitled us to unlimited public transport we still had to pay the fee to ride this rather unique cable train. The price was not very much and I think that the Budapest Card even allowed for a discount. We bought a return ticket to the top of the Buda Castle Hill and back. The view at the top is breathtaking and this is definitely a Must see Budapest attraction / Must try Budapest attraction (the Buda Castle in itself is the top attraction in Budapest or at least on the top of the top attractions list).

The Buda castle is one of the most famous and most visited sights of Budapest , It is a Unesco World Heritage location, offering many interesting attractions, museums, evocative streets, squares, restaurants and shops.
He Royal Palace is one of the symbols of the country. It has seen many battles and wars since the 13 th century. In its buildings there are three museums and it also gives home to the Széchenyi Library. The nearby, beautifully renovated Sándor Palace is the residence and workplace of the Head of the State. The 700-year-old Matthias Church is the jewel of the Hungarian capital. The Fishermans Bastion is not only a special and characteristic building but also an excellent point from where the view of the city is spectacular; visitors from all over the world are attracted to it.
After an unexpected, devastating attack by the Mongols the first citizens of Buda moved to the hills in the middle of the 13 th century. Later the royal court was relocated to the Southern end of the mountain that is when the quarter began to boom. Buda became one of the most significant cities of Europe by the 14th century, the population was around 8000. It slowly declined during the Turkish rule, which started in 1541, and little remained of it after the liberating siege (1686) with 75 days of cannon fire. The Austrian authorities could count but 300 inhabitants in the city. It was later rebuilt, and the street lines were not changed, but most two-storey buildings had only one storey from then on. They built a Baroque town, hiding the ruins behind thick walls. It was under siege again in 1849, and then rebuilt again to host Hungarian ministries. After a long and peaceful period, it was reduced to ruins again in January 1945. Several Medieval remnants were uncovered during cleaning up the ruins, and these remnants were not walled up again. Based on the traces, the walls must have been coloured everywhere.

One of the most magnificent sights of Budapest is Buddha castle with its many monuments which is internationally unique and a part of world heritage. The castle hill rises 60m above the banks of the Danube providing a marvelous view either of the river and -- or Gellert Hill. The castle used to be the residence of Hungarian sovereigns for centuries though intermittently. Today, it serves cultural and tourist purposes. The Szechenyi national library, the Hungarian state archives and the board of monumental buildings are all located here. The castle theater and several museums such as the military history museum, the Budapest historical museum, the institute of music and the Hungarian national gallery are also situated here together with the museum of commerce and catering and even a museum of pharmacy.
Entering the castle district through the Viennese gate, first we catch sight of the evangelical church of Buddha castle then passing the colossal palace of the state archives, we reach the ruins of Mary Magdalena Church. The garrison chapel built 750 years ago was destroyed during the Second World War and only its tower survived. There's a garden of ruins behind it. The -- side of the 1.5km long castle district is a pleasant promenade. The houses originate from various historical eras and represent different architectural styles yet create an entirely harmonious impression. Thanks to the careful renovation of the monuments, several houses have partially or wholly regained their medieval look. From under the plasterwork of the baroque or classicist buildings, medieval fragments, window frames or column capitals are showing. The characteristic feature of the houses here is the gothic niche with seat. Opinions vary with regard to its purpose. Nevertheless, it is likely that guards used to use it as a resting point.
