Dominic Gerard Fe West (born 15 October 1969) is an English actor best known for his role as Detective Jimmy McNulty in the HBO drama series The Wire.
West made his debut in 1991 in a short called 3 Joes.[citation needed] His other screen appearances include True Blue, Chicago and Mona Lisa Smile. His most notable television role has been Baltimore police detective Jimmy McNulty on the HBO television police drama The Wire. West was praised for the accuracy of his character's accent.
During his stint on The Wire, West directed the season 5 episode, "Took".
In film, he portrayed the heavy metal guitarist Kirk Cuddy in the 2001 film Rock Star. In 2006 West made a guest appearance as an actor in a sketch in The Catherine Tate Show, alongside "Frankie Howerd impressionist". In 2007, he played the Spartan politician Theron in 300. West also starred in the 1999 film version of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream as Lysander.
West appeared in the role of Oliver Cromwell in the Channel 4 series The Devil's Whore. West played the villain, Jigsaw, in the 2008 film Punisher: War Zone. He also features in "Dr. West", the opening track on Eminem's 2009 album Relapse, as a doctor discharging Eminem from a rehab facility. West played the part over the phone in January 2009 while Eminem was recording it in a Miami studio.

John Doman (born January 9, 1945) is an American actor best known for playing Deputy Police Commissioner William Rawls on HBO series The Wire from 2002 to 2008 and Colonel Edward Galson on Oz in 2001.
Doman was born in Philadelphia, PA and is an alumnus of Northeast Catholic High School. He is a 1962 graduate and a member of the School's Hall of Fame. He is a 1966 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania where he majored in English Literature and played varsity football.
Doman had cameos in the 1997 films Cop Land and the 2003 Mystic River. He also had a role on the film The Opponent. Doman also had a small part in the critically acclaimed 2010 film Blue Valentine.
On television, Doman has guest starred in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Shakaar". He also portrayed Dr. Carl Deraad on Seasons 5 and 6 of ER, and has been introduced as bad-guy CEO Walter Kendrick on Season 2 of Damages. He provided the voice of Don Morello in the video game Mafia: City of Lost Heaven. Doman also provided the voice of Caesar in the video game Fallout New Vegas. He also played a small role in the famous action film, Die Hard with a Vengeance, as one of the site managers for the construction of a tunnel featured in the film. In 2011, Doman will star as Rodrigo Borgia in the forthcoming historical drama series Borgia by the French premium-pay TV Canal+ and the German ZDF and flexes his powerful range starring in acclaimed director Pieter Gaspersz' AFTER opposite Kathleen Quinlan.

Idrissa Akuna "Idris" Elba (born 6 September 1972) is a British television, theatre, and film actor who has starred in both British and American productions. He grew up in Canning Town, East London. One of his first acting roles was in the soap opera Family Affairs. He has worked in a variety of TV roles including Ultraviolet and The Inspector Lynley Mysteries. He is known for playing Russell "Stringer" Bell, a Baltimore drug lord and aspiring businessman, in HBO's critically acclaimed show The Wire. Elba is a DJ under the moniker DJ Big Driis/Big Driis the Londoner, and a hip-hop soul recording artist.
In 2009, Elba appeared on a six-episode arc of the American sitcom The Office, playing Charles Miner, Michael Scott's new boss. In 2010, he appeared in the action film The Losers in the role of Roque, the second-in-command of a black-ops team. The same year, he appeared in the thriller Takers. Elba plays the title role of Detective John Luther in the BBC television show Luther that aired on BBC One, which has finished its second series. Elba has won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of DCI Luther.

The Wire remains the most highly-regarded and compelling urban drama of our time. Through complex characters and story lines, The Wire has defined and created our collective understanding of how multiple systems (drug economy; criminal justice; education; media; politics) ensnare our youth and limit opportunities for achievement in spite of our best efforts to save them; or the best intentions of all the individuals that surround them. As The Wire came to a close, we elected the first black President. And yet amidst the fragile state of our economy and fractured partisan politics, we are seeing alarming levels of poverty and unemployment among the African American community. Black unemployment is virtually twice that of white unemployment. Underemployment is 3 times as high. Black youth unemployment is at 46%. So called "Wire communities" still abound. But how can we reverse course and reach back into the forgotten neighborhoods like those in The Wire to build a better future together? Despite our differences, can we find common ground that allows us to once again create opportunity for those who need it most? How do we turn these failing communities into viable ones that instead of dragging on our economy and society, improve it?

James McNulty has been assigned to lead a joint homicide and narcotics team, in order to bring down drug kingpin Avon Barksdale. Avon Barksdale, accompanied by his right-hand man Stringer Bell, enforcer Wee-Bey and many lieutenants (including his own nephew, D'Angelo Barksdale), has to deal with law enforcement, informants in his own camp, and competition with a local rival, Omar, who's been robbing Barksdale's dealers and reselling the drugs. The supervisor of the investigation, Lt. Cedric Daniels, has to deal with his own problems, such as a corrupt bureaucracy, some of his detectives beating suspects, hard-headed but determined Det. McNulty, and a blackmailing deputy. The show depicts the lives of every part of the drug "food chain", from junkies to dealers, and from cops to politicians.

The Wire remains the most highly-regarded and compelling urban drama of our time. Through complex characters and story lines, The Wire has defined and created our collective understanding of how multiple systems (drug economy; criminal justice; education; media; politics) ensnare our youth and limit opportunities for achievement in spite of our best efforts to save them; or the best intentions of all the individuals that surround them.
As The Wire came to a close, we elected the first black President. And yet amidst the fragile state of our economy and fractured partisan politics, we are seeing alarming levels of poverty and unemployment among the African American community. Black unemployment is virtually twice that of white unemployment. Underemployment is 3 times as high. Black youth unemployment is at 46%. So called "Wire communities" still abound.
But how can we reverse course and reach back into the forgotten neighborhoods like those in The Wire to build a better future together? Despite our differences, can we find common ground that allows us to once again create opportunity for those who need it most? How do we turn these failing communities into viable ones that instead of dragging on our economy and society, improve it?

The Wire is my favourite TV show ever made, I have produced my own trailer for each season of the show.
I wanted to make something true to at least part of a storyline within the season and highlight some of my favourite scenes in the show. If you haven't watched it I highly recommend you do.

Time Spent On Project: Approximately 11 hours
Season 1 of The Wire focuses on the duality between the police and the drug dealers in Baltimore, while it is essentially a crime drama it goes above and beyond the norm. Ultimately it is an account of life in an American city, the same issues can be seen throughout the country and indeed in other countries as well. It shows the institutional dysfunction and how all of us are compromised by and must contend with whatever institution we are committed to, be it the police force, a drug gang, dock worker it doesn't matter, we are all part of the game and the game is rigged.
