Make a Great Sounding LM386 Audio Amplifier with Bass Boost
In this tutorial, I'll first show you how to make a very basic audio amplifier with an LM386 IC to demonstrate the minimum parts needed to build a functional amplifier. Then I'll build a much better sounding amplifier by adding multiple de-coupling capacitors to the power supply and the input and output signal lines. Lastly, I will add a bass boost control to the circuit.

In this video I discuss how to match and connect a power amplifier to passive loudspeakers in the context of live sound reinforcement. Although active speakers are all the rage these days there is nothing wrong with good old passive speakers, and they have the advantage of only needing a single connection, as opposed to the signal and power connections needed on an active cabinet.

In this video we'll be making a wireless bluetooth-enabled amplifier so that we can put old bookshelf speakers to good use!
Not only is the sound quality fantastic, but it can also go super loud! It's also quite easy to build, and doesn't require any special tools - you can get away with just a hammer, nail, and a screwdriver if needed. Seriously!

Oh, by the way, here's the note about the little switches:
These switches change the gain mode of the amp. If they're both on, the amp can reach insane(er) volume levels. However, to hit these volume levels without distortion, the amp needs 25v, which is more than our batteries can provide. The amp is loud enough with them off, and it also means that the signal to noise ratio is MUCH improved, so I don't really recommend messing with them.

Amplifier are a rock band from Manchester, England. The band has released four albums and four EPs since its inception in 1999. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2004 by Music for Nations. Their second album, Insider was released in Europe in 2006 on the SPV label. Their third album, The Octopus, was released to fans in December 2010 ahead of a full release in January 2011.

An amplifier is a device for increasing the power of a signal by use of an external energy source.
In an electronic amplifier, the input "signal" is usually a voltage or a current. Other types exist; a fluidic amplifier increases the power of signals represented as flow of gas or liquid, for example. Amplifiers may be classified in a variety of ways depending on their application, the frequency range they cover, or the active devices used. Ideally an amplifier increases the power of a signal without otherwise altering it; practical amplifiers have finite distortion and noise which they invariably add to the signal.
A device that converts signals from one type to another (for example, a light signal in photons to a DC signal in amperes) is a transducer, a transformer, or a sensor. However, none of these amplify power.
The quality of an amplifier can be characterized by a number of specifications, listed below.
The gain of an amplifier is the ratio of output to input power or amplitude, and is usually measured in decibels. (When measured in decibels it is logarithmically related to the power ratio: G(dB)=10 log(Pout /(Pin)). RF amplifiers are often specified in terms of the maximum power gain obtainable, while the voltage gain of audio amplifiers and instrumentation amplifiers will be more often specified (since the amplifier's input impedance will often be much higher than the source impedance, and the load impedance higher than the amplifier's output impedance). For example, an audio amplifier with a gain given as 20 dB will have a voltage gain of ten (but a power gain of 100 would only occur in the event the input and output impedances were identical).

In this video we'll be making a wireless bluetooth-enabled amplifier so that we can put old bookshelf speakers to good use!
Not only is the sound quality fantastic, but it can also go super loud! It's also quite easy to build, and doesn't require any special tools - you can get away with just a hammer, nail, and a screwdriver if needed. Seriously!

Oh, by the way, here's the note about the little switches:
These switches change the gain mode of the amp. If they're both on, the amp can reach insane(er) volume levels. However, to hit these volume levels without distortion, the amp needs 25v, which is more than our batteries can provide. The amp is loud enough with them off, and it also means that the signal to noise ratio is MUCH improved, so I don't really recommend messing with them.
