Blake Neely
Blake Neely (born April 28, 1969) is an American composer, arranger, orchestrator, conductor, and author. His father was a rancher and professor, his mother a capable journalist and his brother Tom Neely is an artist in Los Angeles.
Neely has contributed to and been credited on dozens of film and TV projects over the years such as: Everwood (which earned him a 2003 Emmy Award nomination for the theme), on the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films, King Kong, The Last Samurai, The Great Buck Howard and many more. Other film projects in which he is the sole composer are Elvis and Anabelle, Starter for 10, and The Wedding Date.
In addition, Neely has composed the music for over twenty television series, including CBS's The Mentalist.
He has frequently collaborated with writer/director/producer Greg Berlanti, including Everwood, Jack & Bobby, Brothers & Sisters, Eli Stone, Dirty Sexy Money, Political Animals and currently Blindspot (TV series), Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl (U.S. TV series) and Legends of Tomorrow.

Flash (comics)
The Flash is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Harry Lampert, the original Flash first appeared in Flash Comics #1 (January 1940).
Nicknamed the "Scarlet Speedster", the "Crimson Comet", "The Blur", and "The Streak", all incarnations of the Flash possess "super speed", which includes the ability to run and move extremely fast, use superhuman reflexes, and seemingly violate certain laws of physics. Thus far, four different characters—each of whom somehow gained the power of "super-speed"—have assumed the identity of the Flash: Jay Garrick (1940–present), Barry Allen (1956–1985, 2008–present), Wally West (1986–2006, 2007–2012, 2013–present), and Bart Allen (2006–2007). Before Wally and Bart's ascension to the mantle of the Flash, they were both Flash protégés under the same name Kid Flash (Bart was also known as Impulse).
The second incarnation of the Flash, Flash (Barry Allen), is part of the Silver Age of comic books. Each version of the Flash has been a key member of at least one of DC's premier teams: the Justice Society of America, the Justice League, and the Teen Titans.

The Mentalist
The Mentalist is an American police procedural television series that ran from September 23, 2008 until February 18, 2015, broadcasting 151 episodes over seven seasons, on CBS. The show was created by Bruno Heller, who is also its executive producer. The show follows former "psychic" Patrick Jane (Simon Baker), who is a consultant to the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI), using the highly developed observational skills he previously employed to "read" people's minds.
On May 10, 2014, CBS renewed the series for a 13-episode seventh season which premiered on November 30, 2014 and later announced it as the final season.
Synopsis
The series follows Patrick Jane, an independent consultant for the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI) based in Sacramento, California. Although not an officer of the law, he uses skills from his former career as a successful, yet admittedly fraudulent, psychic medium to help a team of CBI agents solve murders. The real reason for Patrick Jane's involvement with law enforcement is to track down the serial killer known as Red John, who was responsible for the brutal murders of his wife Angela Jane and his daughter Charlotte Jane.

Blake
Blake is a surname or a given name which originated from Old English. Its derivation is uncertain; it could come from "blac", a nickname for someone who had dark hair or skin, or from "blaac", a nickname for someone with pale hair or skin. Another theory is that it is a corruption of "Ap Lake", meaning "Son of Lake".
Blake was the name of one of the 14 Tribes of Galway in Ireland. These Blakes were descendants of Richard Caddell, alias Blake, who was involved in the Norman invasion of Ireland in 1169. As such a long present foreign name it became known as de Bláca in Irish.
The origins of the name Blake are also considered to be Old Norse, first appearing in Yorkshire, England, possibly derived from the word Blaker, referring to a village and a former municipality of Akershus county, Norway (east of Oslo).
Blake often refers to the British poet, painter and printmaker William Blake (1757–1827) or to the contemporary figurative artist Blake.

Arrow Soundtrack Cover - The Sad Theme (Viola, Guitar and Orchestral Cover)
I love it when composers use leitmotifs to signal recurring events or characters, especially if done with variations on that theme. This is the theme Blake Neely uses to underscore tragic stories in 'Arrow'. I like the soundtrack as a whole (and the one for the Flash, of which I might do a cover someday as well). This is my favourite theme from the series because of the way it is used. I really like Malcolm's Dark Archer theme and a lot of other themes as well but this one has instant emotional impact for me. I've called it the sad theme because it isn't (to the best of my kowledge) a stand alone track on the soundtrack. It is however used in multiple pieces of the soundtrack like 'I Forgot Who I was' and 'Own Worst Enemy'. I hope this series will continue for a long time to come if onl...

Blake Neely The Flash And The Arrow CW TV Series Composer Interview (Blake Neely Interview) at Comic Con 2014 San Diego.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Blake Neely at Comic Con 2014 and as part of a panel on Hollywood composers. Mr. Neely has a long list of credits, but is currently known for his score for The Arrow television series on the CW, and for the upcoming reboot of The Flash, again on The CW.
Blake is challenged by the task of not repeating the theme of the classic 1991 The Flash by Danny Elfman and Shirley Walker, and so he said he did not listen to it, when coming up with the initial music for the TV series.
Going his own way, Blake Neely (who got into composing music for movies after watch Star Wars and learning about its composer John Williams) created a more emotive, less bombastic sound for The Flash.

I love it when composers use leitmotifs to signal recurring events or characters, especially if done with variations on that theme. This is the theme Blake Neely uses to underscore tragic stories in 'Arrow'. I like the soundtrack as a whole (and the one for the Flash, of which I might do a cover someday as well).
This is my favourite theme from the series because of the way it is used. I really like Malcolm's Dark Archer theme and a lot of other themes as well but this one has instant emotional impact for me. I've called it the sad theme because it isn't (to the best of my kowledge) a stand alone track on the soundtrack. It is however used in multiple pieces of the soundtrack like 'I Forgot Who I was' and 'Own Worst Enemy'.
I hope this series will continue for a long time to come if only because the soundtrack is truly something special.

Arrow is an American action crime television series developed by writer/producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Andrew Kreisberg. • Who are you Blake Neely?
I'm a composer, conductor, arranger, orchestrator, pianist and author. I'm also a husband, father, brother and son. I like toys, odd musical instruments, skiing and tennis. I drive a Jeep. I work out of my studio, Cow On The Wall, in Los Angeles.
I was born in Paris, Texas, in 1969 and began playing around on the family piano at the age of four. My parents quickly got me lessons, and I soon began making my own little songs. The first piece was a little ditty called "Ghost Dance." It was awful, but it gave me an idea of what I wanted to do in life. At age eight, when I saw STAR WARS, I knew for sure.
I played the French horn in middle and high school marching band. In front of a mirror, I practiced conducting with a magic wand to a collection of Leonard Bernstein records my parents gave me. I continued playing piano and later bought some drums. (Of course, yes, I was in a couple of high school garage bands.) I purchased my first synthesizers when I was 14 -- a Casiotone MT-40, a Moog Bass, and a Mirage DSK.
Attending the University of Texas in Austin, I failed to impress the music panel with my piano playing, so I received a nice letter informing me that I was not accepted into the School of Music and "should consider another career path." In hindsight, probably the best letter I ever received.
While in college, I had the good fortune to secure a summer internship at Disney Studios in their film music department. This lead to my first job after college for Disney's Hollywood Records. After two years, I moved to Disney Music Publishing and managed their print music division. In 1996, I began freelance work: arranging music and writing method books for Hal Leonard Publishing. I authored more than 25 instrumental method books, including the best-selling piano method, "Piano for Dummies," and the award-winning series, "FastTrack Music Instruction."

Neely has contributed to and been credited on dozens of film and TV projects over the years such as: Everwood (which earned him a 2003 Emmy Award nomination for the theme), on the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films, King Kong, The Last Samurai, The Great Buck Howard and many more. I had the pleasure of interviewing Blake Neely at Comic Con 2014 and as part of a panel on Hollywood composers. Mr. Neely has a long list of credits, but is currently known for his score for The Arrow television series on the CW, and for the upcoming reboot of The Flash, again on The CW.
Blake is challenged by the task of not repeating the theme of the classic 1991 The Flash by Danny Elfman and Shirley Walker, and so he said he did not listen to it, when coming up with the initial music for the TV series.
Going his own way, Blake Neely (who got into composing music for movies after watch Star Wars and learning about its composer John Williams) created a more emotive, less bombastic sound for The Flash.

• Who are you Blake Neely?
I'm a composer, conductor, arranger, orchestrator, pianist and author. I'm also a husband, father, brother and son. I like toys, odd musical instruments, skiing and tennis. I drive a Jeep. I work out of my studio, Cow On The Wall, in Los Angeles.
I was born in Paris, Texas, in 1969 and began playing around on the family piano at the age of four. My parents quickly got me lessons, and I soon began making my own little songs. The first piece was a little ditty called "Ghost Dance." It was awful, but it gave me an idea of what I wanted to do in life. At age eight, when I saw STAR WARS, I knew for sure.
I played the French horn in middle and high school marching band. In front of a mirror, I practiced conducting with a magic wand to a collection of Leonard Bernstein records my parents gave me. I continued playing piano and later bought some drums. (Of course, yes, I was in a couple of high school garage bands.) I purchased my first synthesizers when I was 14 -- a Casiotone MT-40, a Moog Bass, and a Mirage DSK.
Attending the University of Texas in Austin, I failed to impress the music panel with my piano playing, so I received a nice letter informing me that I was not accepted into the School of Music and "should consider another career path." In hindsight, probably the best letter I ever received.
While in college, I had the good fortune to secure a summer internship at Disney Studios in their film music department. This lead to my first job after college for Disney's Hollywood Records. After two years, I moved to Disney Music Publishing and managed their print music division. In 1996, I began freelance work: arranging music and writing method books for Hal Leonard Publishing. I authored more than 25 instrumental method books, including the best-selling piano method, "Piano for Dummies," and the award-winning series, "FastTrack Music Instruction."

• Who are you Blake Neely?
I'm a composer, conductor, arranger, orchestrator, pianist and author. I'm also a husband, father, brother and son. I like toys, odd musical instruments, skiing and tennis. I drive a Jeep. I work out of my studio, Cow On The Wall, in Los Angeles.
I was born in Paris, Texas, in 1969 and began playing around on the family piano at the age of four. My parents quickly got me lessons, and I soon began making my own little songs. The first piece was a little ditty called "Ghost Dance." It was awful, but it gave me an idea of what I wanted to do in life. At age eight, when I saw STAR WARS, I knew for sure.
I played the French horn in middle and high school marching band. In front of a mirror, I practiced conducting with a magic wand to a collection of Leonard Bernstein records my parents gave me. I continued playing piano and later bought some drums. (Of course, yes, I was in a couple of high school garage bands.) I purchased my first synthesizers when I was 14 -- a Casiotone MT-40, a Moog Bass, and a Mirage DSK.
Attending the University of Texas in Austin, I failed to impress the music panel with my piano playing, so I received a nice letter informing me that I was not accepted into the School of Music and "should consider another career path." In hindsight, probably the best letter I ever received.
While in college, I had the good fortune to secure a summer internship at Disney Studios in their film music department. This lead to my first job after college for Disney's Hollywood Records. After two years, I moved to Disney Music Publishing and managed their print music division. In 1996, I began freelance work: arranging music and writing method books for Hal Leonard Publishing. I authored more than 25 instrumental method books, including the best-selling piano method, "Piano for Dummies," and the award-winning series, "FastTrack Music Instruction."
