Mark E. Gruenwald (June 18, 1953 – August 12, 1996) was an American comic book writer, editor, and occasional penciler known for his long association with Marvel Comics.
Gruenwald got his start in comics fandom, publishing his own fanzine, Omniverse, which explored the concept of continuity. Before being hired by Marvel, he wrote text articles for DC Comics official fanzine, Amazing World of DC Comics. Articles by Gruenwald include "The Martian Chronicles" (a history of the Martian Manhunter) in issue #13 and several articles on the history of the Justice League in issue #14.
In 1978 he was hired by Marvel Comics, where he remained for the rest of his career. Hired initially as an assistant editor in January 1978, Gruenwald was promoted to full editorship by Marvel editor-in-chief Jim Shooter in 1982, putting Gruenwald in charge of The Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Spider Woman, and What If. During this period, he shared an office with writer/editor Denny O'Neil, whom Gruenwald considered a mentor.
Originally taped for a cable access TV show about comics, this interview was conducted by Joe Field at The Wonderful World of Comics Convention (before it was shortened to "WonderCon") in Oakland CA in April 1988. Mark Gruenwald was a comic book writer, editor and occasional penciller who worked for Marvel Comics from 1978 to his passing (at the young age of 43) in 1996. Joe Field is currently the owner of Flying Colors Comics in Concord CA. He is the founder of Free Comic Book Day. This interview was taped months before the opening of Flying Colors.

From the single episode of their cable-access comedy show "Cheap Laffs", former Marvel Executive Editor Mark Gruenwald explains his theories on comedy and laughter with the assistance of Mike Carlin, Elliot Brown and assorted other Marvel staffers. Circa 1984.
Writer, editor, artist, executive editor in chief of the once largest comic book company in the world. A personal tribute & just my way of saying "THANKS, MARK. YOU'RE STILL MISSED".

The origin story of Quasar as laid out in Quasar #1. I tried as hard as I could to talk about Mark Gruenwald while putting this episode together but every time I added him in it took over the entire episode. My apologies. For those who don't know - Mark wrote every issue of Quasar but one. He passed away at far too young an age and although I haven't brought it up before the entirety of my CosmicComics series is dedicated to him. At some point I will need to step aside from Quasar and do an episode on Mark but until then I hope you enjoy the beginning of the journey. **DO NOT ORDER THE K-OTICS CASETTE TAPE OR CALL DAVID BIRD!!!** 1984 Manhattan Cable TV Extravaganza (no relation to Eddie Berganza)!!! Comedy at its cheapest. Featuring Marvel Comics Editorial Team, Mark Gruenwald & Mike Carlin with Typesetting Production Man, Eliot Brown. With Regulars: Jack Morelli Staff Letterer Production Man and sometimes Lisa Hachadoorian, paste-up and mechanical freelancer. Also starring a whole bunch of comic professionals willing to humiliate and embarrass themselves-- a lot. This severely compromised copy is all that's been transferred to DVD and badly at that. The original show was shot on VHS video tape, bumped up to 3/4" for editing then bumped back down to VHS to be delivered to Manhattan Cable (we actually took classes!). This is a copy of that. This is onl...
Well into the production of this landmark series, woefully underfunded but also fitfully over-talented, Cheap Laffs continues to show that comic professionals should keep their day-jobs! (Except you, Annie!) This was ripped and burned from horrid VHS tapes, in no apparent rhyme or reason, so I don't know what's in this folder. But it was basically Mark Gruenwald, Mike Carlin, Eliot Brown, Jack Morelli, Peter Sanderson and many other Marvel Comics' toilers, just workin' it, baby! This episode features Dr. Dread's Slaughter House with a Riddle For The Sphinx (I get nearly hysterical every time that "Mummy Pellet" hits Morelli in the eye!) Danny Fingeroth, Lisa Hachedoorian, Pat Powers (as Kilroy The Friendly Bat), Annie Nocenti. Yes, that is me, Eliot, as Dr. Dread-- I was following vocal di...

Design for Game and Games in the Quesprobe series of Games: The games were designed by Scott Adams, developed and published by Adventure International and the first was originally released in 1984 for the Atari 800, Apple II, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 16 and Commodore 64 with the sequels being published each following year. The original plan was for a series of twelve games, but Adventure International's bankruptcy in 1985 brought a rapid and premature end to the line. The manual of Questprobe featuring the Hulk credits John Romita Sr., Mark Gruenwald and Kem McNair with creating the art, however it is not clear if this is the in-game art, or the artwork in the manual. The manual feature images so detailed they could have been pulled directly out of the comics.[1] After this first title in t...
