Lagos is the world’s fastest growing megacity, riding on a lucrative oil industry and expanding economy. But while skyscrapers furnish the business elite, millions in the city's slums wonder if they will benefit.
"Lagos will become the financial hub for the continent of Africa", says David Frame, the managing director of Eko Atlantic. He is in charge of building an 8km sea wall and dredging the Atlantic ocean, creating a new foundation for a business waterfront. The audacious plans may seem the stuff of fantasy, but a lot is staked on the success of the new development, to be finished in 2019. "The evolution of Eko Atlantic will change the face of Lagos, and open a new gateway to your success in Africa", booms an advertisement. As forecasters anticipate the expansion with glee, the nearby fishing community of Makoko remains beset by Third World problems. The town's Chief Francis begs for aid. "The government should reconsider us as human beings and help us for improvements of this community", he says.

Majority of the people living in Lagos commute to their places of work everyday through the means of public transportation which are - Okada (motor bike), colored buses, colored taxis, BRT buses, boat, ferry etc
"When there is traffic, okada is the easiest and cheapest way to get around," says bolly.
BollyLomo goes on a jolly ride around Lagos, to show you how we move about to get you some of our amazing BattaBox stories which you get to watch.
Bolly travels from ketu to ikorodu (Lagos mainland) by Okada, bus and taxis and then back to the heart of Lagos island by a ferry and boat.
There are various modes of public transportation in Lagos, some of which are very cost effective and some are not.
"If you like the Lagos hustle and bustle then the danfo (colored bus) is for you," says bolly as he enters a danfo bus.
While majority of commuters in Lagos prefer to take the BRT bus, which is cost effective - others still enjoy entering the local painted buses.
The great thing about BRT buses is that you get to watch BattaBox videos in the buses for free - and don't forget its an AC bus o.

Lagos (/ˈleɪɡɒs/ LAY-gos) is a port city and the most populous city in Nigeria. Officially, the population of Lagos was last recorded at 7,937,932. Lagos is the second fastest growing city in Africa and the 7th fastest in the world. Lagos was originally inhabited by the Awori subgroup of the Yoruba people. Under the leadership of their Olofin, the Awori moved to an island now called Iddo and then to the larger Lagos Island. In the 15th century, the Awori settlement was attacked by the Benin Empire following a quarrel, and the island became a Benin war-camp called "Eko" under Oba Orhogba, the Oba of Benin at the time.
Lagos is a huge metropolis which originated on islands separated by creeks, such as Lagos Island, fringing the southwest mouth of Lagos Lagoon whilst protected from the Atlantic Ocean by long sand spits such as Bar Beach, which stretch up to 100 km east and west of the mouth. From the beginning, Lagos has expanded on the mainland west of the lagoon and the conurbation, including Ikeja and Agege, now reaches more than 40 km north-west of Lagos Island. Some suburbs include Ikorodu, Epe and Badagry, and more local councils have recently been created, bringing the total number of local governments in Lagos to 57.

Lagos is the world’s fastest growing megacity, riding on a lucrative oil industry and expanding economy. But while skyscrapers furnish the business elite, millions in the city's slums wonder if they will benefit.
"Lagos will become the financial hub for the continent of Africa", says David Frame, the managing director of Eko Atlantic. He is in charge of building an 8km sea wall and dredging the Atlantic ocean, creating a new foundation for a business waterfront. The audacious plans may seem the stuff of fantasy, but a lot is staked on the success of the new development, to be finished in 2019. "The evolution of Eko Atlantic will change the face of Lagos, and open a new gateway to your success in Africa", booms an advertisement. As forecasters anticipate the expansion with glee, the nearby fishing community of Makoko remains beset by Third World problems. The town's Chief Francis begs for aid. "The government should reconsider us as human beings and help us for improvements of this community", he says.

Bolly travels from ketu to ikorodu (Lagos mainland) by Okada, bus and taxis and then back to the heart of Lagos island by a ferry and boat.

Lisbon was the final stop of our European tour and we couldn't have chosen a better destination. The city immediately won us over with it's cheery pastel buildings, delicious fresh seafood, and it's unique mix of attractions. From the hilltops, moor forts look down on to the surroundings. In the old towns narrow roads lead up to the magnificent Manuel-style temples. The buildings are ornamented by Azulejos, moor painted tiles. The monuments and statues summon adventurers and explorers: Magellan and Vasco De Gama. The country is full of fishing villages, palm trees, vine arbours, olive tree orchards, and orange gardens. The Playa de Rocha and the other sandy beaches are surrounded by large cliffs, stone archs and lagoons. On the hill of Moniche we travel among pine trees and para oaks. From the lighthouse of the Saint Vincent cape we can only see the endless Atlantic Ocean, which the medieval man thought to be the end of the world.

Add barnacles to your list of exotic food to try in Algarve, Portugal! These barnacles are truly wild and only grow in a few remote places, such as Lagos in the Algarve. Harvesting can be a hazardous business and a permit is needed from the Portuguese authorities.
Harvesting for this delicacy is not a touristic option, due to the dangerous area they grow in, and the trouble it takes to collect them - hence the hefty price. But you can taste this widely consumed, yet expensive delicacy in many restaurants in Portugal and Spain. As Charlie Skelton, journalist for The Guardian says about the smell of goose barnacles cooking: ‘’It hits your nose like a tsunami, that incredible reek of the sea – strong as Poseidon's armpit, but heavenly, like a mermaid's burp.’’
For Travel Basecamp, it wasn’t an option! We needed to go head first into this wild and dangerous adventure of collecting goose barnacles. We were referred to a surf photographer João Bracourt AKA ‘’Brek’’ (https://joaobracourt.wordpress.com/). Brek was keen on the idea of being our host and accepted to bring us to his secret spot. Our mind was blown by the beauty of the landscape and our tastebuds were in paradise. We were blessed!

In April my dad hit the 50 milestone so we celebrated his birthday in sunny Portugal. He seemed to enjoy it ^_^

Lisbon was the final stop of our European tour and we couldn't have chosen a better destination. The city immediately won us over with it's cheery pastel buildings, delicious fresh seafood, and it's unique mix of attractions. It also didn't hurt that we had clear blue skies the whole week we were there! The following video will highlight 20 things to do in Lisbon and we hope it will give you a few ideas of some of the sights this beautiful city has to offer.

20 things to do in Lisbon, Portugal | Top Attractions Travel Guide:
Our first stop of the day was Sao Jorge Castle, which is an old Moorish fortification that sits on a hill overlooking Lisbon and the Tagus River. You can get some nice panoramic views of the city from here, and they also have peacocks roaming the grounds.
Miradouro das Portas do Sol is one of the many look out points in Lisbon that offers postcard-perfect views of the city. This particular terrace overlooks the Alfama district and it is always popular with tourists.
Carmo is a mediaeval convent that was ruined during the 1755 earthquake, and today it is used as an archaeological museum. It's a strange feeling walking down the ruined nave of the church and seeing blue skies above your head, but that's exactly what makes it worth a visit.
Another place to visit is Belem Tower. The tower was built on the banks of the Tagus River, and it was meant to act as both a defense system and a ceremonial gateway into Lisbon.
The Jeronimos Monastery is one of the most visited sights in Lisbon. It's one of the best examples of Late Gothic Manueline architecture, so have a close look at the intricate detailing when you visit.
A fun way to get around Lisbon's hilly streets is by riding the trams. There are different lines across the city, but #28 is the most popular one with visitors.
The Santa Justa lift is an elevator that connects the lower streets of Baixa with Carmo Square, and it is the only remaining vertical elevator in Lisbon. Though it is meant to serve a functional role, it is also quite popular with visitors who find the elevator a novel idea.
