The high performance tyre of the future will be very different to the tyres we drive on today, if the results of a recent design competition are a guide.
A Hankook Tire competition in the US has challenged some of the country's brightest industrial design students to imagine the role of tyres in automotive design from new angles.
The winning entry by University of Cincinnati student Ben Zavala took the brief somewhat literally, with his Tiltread car tyre rolling into corners at an angle like a motorcycle tyre.
Zavala's breakthrough idea was to split the tyre into three parallel ring sections, each mounted on a corresponding split section of wheel.
As the wheel turns and leans, the three tyre sections are individually raised or lowered, allowing them all to maintain traction with the road surface.
Tiltread's wheels are hubless and contain an electric drive motor which varies power to each tyre section, allowing the sections to spin at different rates during cornering.
University of Cincinnati associate professor Ralph Zammit said the competition demonstrated just how great an impact improvement in tyre design could have upon the overall efficiency, ecology and economy of road transportation.
"Hankook proposed a very challenging assignment that provided the students with real-world insights as to how tyres are currently designed, manufactured and the performance issues they must address," said associate professor Zammit.
"Students were especially encouraged to consider sustainability needs such as reducing and reusing raw materials."
Second place in the competition was taken by Mark Hearn who imagined an off-road tyre called Motiv, which features numerous height-variable, non-pneumatic tread blocks that can adapt to extremely rough terrain without risk of blow-out.
Third-placed Miranda Steinhauser's proposal for an eco-friendly tyre also impressed the competition judges.
The Tessela tyre's easily removable tread components allow consumers to replace worn-out tread when required, rather than the whole tyre carcass, reducing tyre waste and landfill.
Models of the first, second and third placed tyres were displayed on the Hankook stand at the 2012 SEMA automotive show in Las Vegas.

A Hankook Tire competition in the US has challenged some of the country's brightest industrial design students to imagine the role of tyres in automotive design from new angles.
The winning entry by University of Cincinnati student Ben Zavala took the brief somewhat literally, with his Tiltread car tyre rolling into corners at an angle like a motorcycle tyre.
Zavala's breakthrough idea was to split the tyre into three parallel ring sections, each mounted on a corresponding split section of wheel.
As the wheel turns and leans, the three tyre sections are individually raised or lowered, allowing them all to maintain traction with the road surface.
Tiltread's wheels are hubless and contain an electric drive motor which varies power to each tyre section, allowing the sections to spin at different rates during cornering.
University of Cincinnati associate professor Ralph Zammit said the competition demonstrated just how great an impact improvement in tyre design could have upon the overall efficiency, ecology and economy of road transportation.
"Hankook proposed a very challenging assignment that provided the students with real-world insights as to how tyres are currently designed, manufactured and the performance issues they must address," said associate professor Zammit.
"Students were especially encouraged to consider sustainability needs such as reducing and reusing raw materials."
Second place in the competition was taken by Mark Hearn who imagined an off-road tyre called Motiv, which features numerous height-variable, non-pneumatic tread blocks that can adapt to extremely rough terrain without risk of blow-out.
Third-placed Miranda Steinhauser's proposal for an eco-friendly tyre also impressed the competition judges.
The Tessela tyre's easily removable tread components allow consumers to replace worn-out tread when required, rather than the whole tyre carcass, reducing tyre waste and landfill.
Models of the first, second and third placed tyres were displayed on the Hankook stand at the 2012 SEMA automotive show in Las Vegas.

Mitas is conducting field tests in the Czech Republic with a John Deere 6150R tractor mounted with 480/65 R28 PneuTrac on the front axle and 600/65 R38 PneuTrac on the rear. The results show the traction force of Mitas 600/65 R38 PneuTrac is approx. 25% higher than a standard tyre and, compared with an IF-rated tyre, PneuTrac delivers approx. 15% better traction. Taking a closer look at the 480/65 R28 PneuTrac, it has approx. 10% advantage in traction force over a standard tyre and approx. 7% over the IF tyre.
“The results of the first field tests that are under way in the Czech Republic give us a good feel for continuing the successful development of the Mitas PneuTrac concept,” said Andrew Mabin, Mitas’ sales and marketing director.
The slippage and traction force is measured under several modes of driving, and the result is the evaluation of traction force under the slippage that normally occurs during regular farm work (about 15%). The results are based on measurements conducted on July 22, 2015. Measurements are done by Research Institute of Agricultural Engineering, p.r.i.
“The field tests have so far demonstrated the clear advantages of PneuTrac over conventional tyre designs and confirmed previously released lab test results. The most important PneuTrac benefits are a larger footprint, greater tractive force and also higher lateral stability at a lower inflation pressure when compared with the standard tyre,” Mabin added.

Road injuries occurred in about 54 million people in 2013.[1] This resulted in 1.4 million deaths in 2013, up from 1.1 million deaths in 1990.[2] About 68,000 of these occurred in children less than five years old.[2] Almost all high-income countries have decreasing death rates, while the majority of low-income countries have increasing death rates due to traffic collisions. Middle-income countries have the highest rate with 20 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, 80% of all road fatalities by only 52% of all vehicles. While the death rate in Africa is the highest (24.1 per 100,000 inhabitants), the lowest rate is to be found in Europe (10.3).

Worldwide, motor vehicle collisions lead to death and disability as well as financial costs to both society and the individuals involved.
Road injuries occurred in about 54 million people in 2013.[1] This resulted in 1.4 million deaths in 2013, up from 1.1 million deaths in 1990.[2] About 68,000 of these occurred in children less than five years old.[2] Almost all high-income countries have decreasing death rates, while the majority of low-income countries have increasing death rates due to traffic collisions. Middle-income countries have the highest rate with 20 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, 80% of all road fatalities by only 52% of all vehicles. While the death rate in Africa is the highest (24.1 per 100,000 inhabitants), the lowest rate is to be found in Europe (10.3).

Hello gixxarians .painting tyre side walls will improve your bike sporty appearance .i used Asian paints enamel oil paint and pen brush.clean the tyre with soap water and rub the area you want to paint with paint thinnerl and wipe with cloth .mix paint with a stick and dip the brush tip about 1/4 at a time and slowly paint the letters .if paints spills on rim or out of letters dip the cloth in paint thinner and wipe it out immediately ,it will take more than 48hours to paint get dry normally!!!! yes i felt paint wet even after the 48hours !!!!so be patient and carry on happy painting...dont forget to like share and subscribe...to life21 channnel EDIT:Paint may take more than 48 hours to dry.blue gixxer look more sporty with neon yellow rim stripes ,pant may get fade apply a coat of vinyl s... -

Hello, I haven't seen any decent YouTube Tutorials on how to make a Tyre in AutoDesk Alias, so i thought i would share how i make mine. This tutorial takes you from the very start, right through every step and curve, to the finished model. It might not be the best way to make a tyre, but it works every time and as can be seen, a tyre can be made in less than half an hour, maybe less, depending on complexity of the tread. I haven't seen any decent YouTube Tutorials on how to make a Tyre in AutoDesk Alias, so i thought i would share how i make mine. This tutorial takes you from the very start, right through every step and curve, to the finished model.
It might not be the best way to make a tyre, but it works every time and as can be seen, a tyre can be made in less than half an hour, maybe less, depending on complexity of the tread.
Its amazing how much difference they can make to a model, they just increase the realism of the entire thing.

Stronghold: Crusader is the successor to Firefly Studios's 2001 game Stronghold. Crusader has much in common with the original Stronghold, but differs from its predecessor in the fact that the game is no longer set in a pseudo-Europe, instead being set in the Middle East during the Crusades. The game features a multitude of new Arabian units that can be purchased in a new building, the mercenary post. Though the Arabian troops do not require any resources to produce, they are rather expensive. The game was also released as Stronghold Warchest. This version was a compendium of Stronghold and an enhanced version of Stronghold: Crusader, containing additional characters and an additional Crusader Trail.
Stronghold Crusader features several real-time strategy campaign strings. These document the First, Second and Third Crusade, as well as conflicts within the individual Crusader states. Each campaign comprises several battles, such as Nicaea, Heraclea, siege of Antioch, Krak des Chevaliers and the Siege of Jerusalem. The game also features the Crusader Trail, a series of 50 linked missions against various opponents. Stronghold Warchest adds one more Crusader Trail, consisting of 30 linked missions.
