A series of military strikes in Syria on Sunday, across several towns in the country’s eastern region, killed at least 45 civilians including several children, a monitoring group says.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the towns of Douma, Harasta, Saqba and Arbin, largely controlled by rebel forces, were hit by government missiles, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reports.
The towns were also hit by air strikes, although it was unclear whether those were carried out by Syrian or Russian forces, Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP, adding that at least 10 children and four women were among the victims.
Russia, an ally of Syrian President Bashar Assad, has been conducting an aerial campaign against rebel-held parts of the country since September and allegedly killed 23 civilians in an air strike on Douma last month.
Day after call for international condemnation, regime targets school in Douma.
A day after a teacher-organized protest in rebel-held Douma called for international condemnation of regime bombing of schools, a combination of missiles and cluster bombs struck a school in the city Sunday killing 40 people, reported the Douma Revolution Facebook page.
“The bombing in Douma today killed a school principal and a number of students and just yesterday a high school and primary school were bombed in Saqba,” Akram Zein, director of the Douma-based Rawad al-Huda Education Initiative, told Syria Direct on Sunday.
In April 2014 a government airstrike hit a Douma school killing 25 children and later, in February 2015, a regime surface-to-surface missile struck the city’s Al-Mutafawikoun School, reported the pro-opposition Violations Documentation Center. Across Syria, approximately one-fifth of all schools are unusable as a result of fighting, according to a UNICEF report from September 2015.
Douma's residents mobilized in peaceful demonstrations calling for freedom, but Al-Assad forces face them with gunfire and shelling killing a lot of people including children and women and demolishing several homes and shops. This footage shows the Peaceful Revolution in Douma. HD

In Syria, one of the most devastating government air strikes since the war began has killed more than 100 people and injured another 300.
The strikes hit the main market in Douma - a rebel held suburb in Damascus.
Witnesses say more strikes were launched as people rushed to help the wounded. 300 were injured.
The strikes come on the same day that UN humanitarian chief Stephen O'Brien visited Damascus for the first time since his appointment in May.
He met with Syria's Foreign Minister Walid Muallem, who said Syria is committed to meeting the needs of the people.
The strikes also came as a deal for safe passage to civilians fell through.

BEIRUT: At least 57 people were killed and dozens wounded when Syrian government forces fired missiles into a marketplace in a town near Damascus, a conflict monitor said on Friday.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the war through a network of sources on the ground, said government forces fired 12 missiles at Douma, 10 miles (15 km) northeast of Damascus. It earlier said 47 had been killed.
It also said that at least 20 people were killed in the northern city of Aleppo when warplanes struck several parts of the northern city of Aleppo. It was not immediately clear which country carried out the attacks.
Douma has suffered intense bombardment in recent months in a wave of strikes the Syrian army has said targets insurgents that have launched attacks on government-held areas.
Syrian Civil Defence, a local humanitarian rescue group that operates in rebel-held areas, posted a picture on its Facebook page of about a dozen bloodied bodies laid on the ground on plastic sheeting and said more than 45 had died in the attack, which it said used guided missiles.
"Utterly heinous that while world leaders meet for peace in Vienna, attack(s) against civilians continue in Syria," the group said on Twitter.
It linked to a video showing people tending to survivors in a chaotic scene of blackened rubble and fire. Footage showed bodies on the ground of the market place, where stalls had been blown to pieces. Reuters was unable to independently verify the events shown.
Many of Douma's residents have fled the four-year conflict, moving to nearby rural areas. Medics say they have struggled to cope with large numbers of wounded in the intensified strikes.
Syria's civil war has killed more than 250,000 people and driven more than 10 million from their homes. International diplomats were meeting on Friday at a peace conference in Vienna, the first to be attended by President Bashar al-Assad's main ally Iran.

And the sources of whom the attack came from is also pretty unclear, some sources claim it was an US Airstrike and some claim it was done by ISIS.

The Syrian Army continued to make advances against militant groups in the direction of the strategic city of Douma, Tuesday, with the army and militants reportedly separated only by 15 metres (49ft).
After capturing the buildings along the highway near the east of the city, the Syrian Arab Army made a break to advance in the direction of Douma.
According to the Syrian military, the army took control over buildings north of Douma several days ago, destroying militant targets securing the city.

The Syrian Army continued to make advances against militant groups in the direction of the strategic city of Douma, Tuesday, with the army and militants reportedly separated only by 15 metres (49ft). A day after a teacher-organized protest in rebel-held Douma called for international condemnation of regime bombing of schools, a combination of missiles and cluster bombs struck a school in the city Sunday killing 40 people, reported the Douma Revolution Facebook page.
“The bombing in Douma today killed a school principal and a number of students and just yesterday a high school and primary school were bombed in Saqba,” Akram Zein, director of the Douma-based Rawad al-Huda Education Initiative, told Syria Direct on Sunday.
In April 2014 a government airstrike hit a Douma school killing 25 children and later, in February 2015, a regime surface-to-surface missile struck the city’s Al-Mutafawikoun School, reported the pro-opposition Violations Documentation Center. Across Syria, approximately one-fifth of all schools are unusable as a result of fighting, according to a UNICEF report from September 2015.

Planes of the Al-Assad regime bombed the two Damascus districts of Duma and Kafr Batna with vacuum bombs last Sunday, killing 44 people, mostly women and children.

In Syria, one of the most devastating government air strikes since the war began has killed more than 100 people and injured another 300.
The strikes hit the main market in Douma - a rebel held suburb in Damascus.
Witnesses say more strikes were launched as people rushed to help the wounded. 300 were injured.
The strikes come on the same day that UN humanitarian chief Stephen O'Brien visited Damascus for the first time since his appointment in May.
He met with Syria's Foreign Minister Walid Muallem, who said Syria is committed to meeting the needs of the people.
The strikes also came as a deal for safe passage to civilians fell through.

BEIRUT: At least 57 people were killed and dozens wounded when Syrian government forces fired missiles into a marketplace in a town near Damascus, a conflict monitor said on Friday.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the war through a network of sources on the ground, said government forces fired 12 missiles at Douma, 10 miles (15 km) northeast of Damascus. It earlier said 47 had been killed.
It also said that at least 20 people were killed in the northern city of Aleppo when warplanes struck several parts of the northern city of Aleppo. It was not immediately clear which country carried out the attacks.
Douma has suffered intense bombardment in recent months in a wave of strikes the Syrian army has said targets insurgents that have launched attacks on government-held areas.
Syrian Civil Defence, a local humanitarian rescue group that operates in rebel-held areas, posted a picture on its Facebook page of about a dozen bloodied bodies laid on the ground on plastic sheeting and said more than 45 had died in the attack, which it said used guided missiles.
"Utterly heinous that while world leaders meet for peace in Vienna, attack(s) against civilians continue in Syria," the group said on Twitter.
It linked to a video showing people tending to survivors in a chaotic scene of blackened rubble and fire. Footage showed bodies on the ground of the market place, where stalls had been blown to pieces. Reuters was unable to independently verify the events shown.
Many of Douma's residents have fled the four-year conflict, moving to nearby rural areas. Medics say they have struggled to cope with large numbers of wounded in the intensified strikes.
Syria's civil war has killed more than 250,000 people and driven more than 10 million from their homes. International diplomats were meeting on Friday at a peace conference in Vienna, the first to be attended by President Bashar al-Assad's main ally Iran.

The half-standing ruins of this dark-stoned city rise out of the southern Syrian landscape.
Nearly deserted today, Bosra has a great deal of history from thousands of years of habitation by different cultures.
The city is at least old enough to have appeared in historical documents from the fourteenth century BC.
Early in the first millennium AD, Bosra became a part of the Roman Empire, which is the strongest influence seen at work in the ruins.
Since then, it has been the territory of the Byzantine Empire and the Arabs who swept in during the seventh century.
Among the ruined city's Roman and Christian structures, the fortified amphitheater is probably the greatest.
This deep, stadium-like building is mostly intact and gives a taste of what Bosra may once have been like.

A hundred kilometres from the Mediterranean coast, the strategically located city was once the capital of the Umayyad.Cannons, the busts of various presidents and military vehicles are displayed in the large courtyard of the Takiyeh Mosque, an ancient Dervish monastery complex. Built in 1554 and designed by Ottoman master architect, Sinan, it also includes an adjoining inn for the numerous pilgrims who travelled to Mecca. Damascus has always been much prized: by the pharaohs and the Babylonian monarch, Nebukadnezar, and later, Alexander The Great. Then came Persian, Roman and Islamic emperors followed by the Crusaders and Mongols. The Kalaa Citadel is situated on the periphery of the old town that was once surrounded by huge walls. It was from here that Saladin fended off the attacks of the Crusaders. The Romans built a fort here that was constantly extended with impressive walls and towers and located directly outside the city wall, the River Barada was also of strategic importance. Although the Mongols destroyed the inner buildings, the fortress walls survived. The Suq is an important part of every Islamic city, a market that originated in ancient times. Thousands of shops in numerous interconnected lanes form the commercial heart of Damascus. In the Gold Suq everything glitters, bracelets, rings and even a large variety of kitchen utensils. Damascus has for thousands of years been a place desired by the powerful. Yet it has managed to survive and is still the most beautiful capital city in the Near East.

For more than a week, the terrorist Assad Regime has waged a brutal military campaign on Douma in the Damascus suburbs, evidently with the aim of obliterating the rebel-held district.
As part of the scorched earth policy he has pursued every rebellious area since the start of the popular uprising, Assad has unleashed his terror on Douma using heavy weapons, war planes, and rockets against unarmed civilians. His vicious weapons have hit popular markets and residential neighborhoods, burning people alive and destroying what has remained of food and medicine the trapped civilians rely on in the besieged district.
Assad’s barbaric assault on Douma, which undoubtedly constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity, adds to his litany of atrocious acts on the Syrian people and his genocidal war represented in the besieging and starving up of civilians, most notably in East Ghouta and Al Waer district near Homs.
For the past two weeks, warplanes and heavy weapons have relentlessly pounded the besieged district of Douma, leaving 350 civilians, including 120 children and women, dead and injuring hundreds more, in addition to forcing thousands out of their homes. Buoyed by the lack of any response to his ferocious ongoing campaign on Douma, Assad has even since escalated indiscriminate attacks on rebel-held areas.
We therefore call upon the United Nations to recognizes the right of the Syrian people to live, and to take immediate action to salvage what has remained on Douma, just as they rushed to rescue the town of Ayn al-Arab (Kobae) from ISIS’s onslaught.
The Assad regime’s killing of children and the elderly with rockets, barrel bombs, and toxic gases is as a crime as horrible as ISIS’s slaughtering and burning of people alive.
Residents of besieged Eastern Ghouta and Al Waer district Homs have not asked for a military intervention or the forming of an alliance of 60 countries, but they are only asking for forcing Assad to stop the indiscriminate bombardment of their neighborhoods, to allow the opening of humanitarian corridors, to lift the stiffening siege imposed on them, and for enabling them defend themselves against the Assad regime’s brutal attacks.
Assad’s vicious campaign on Douma puts the Arab League, the United Nations and the Group of Friends of the Syrian people in front of their responsibilities towards the Syrian people who have been killed en masse at the hands of the Assad regime for over four years.
We also call on the heroes of the Free Syrian Army to relieve their comrades in Douma and Al Waer and to protect civilians from Assad’s vengeful attacks.

Russia claimed this month to bombard the IS, but the truth is, they bombed only the rebels and terrorizing the people with cluster and incendiary bombs of all calibers. The consequences were destroyed hospitals, a massacre in the market in Damascus suburb Douma, hundreds of civilian deaths and tens of thousands of new refugees on the way to Germany, where politicians just know "we need a solution with Russia and Iran together" but wonder why more and more refugees arrive.
Only the IS advantages and controlled at the end of the month completely Mahin & Hawarini ~ 40km SE of Homs city and parts of Al-Rasafah in Deirezzor city. Temporary also parts northern of Aleppo, but the rebels have recaptured the villages there.
The 50 new special super-soldiers from the United States could help, but they will probably wake nobody IS-Fighter from sleep. Far too little to achieve a result on the map.
The Russian plan is only to defeat the rebels, to save the regime, and then simply to give the IS the West afterwards. Because without rebels there is no alternative to Assad.
Assad protected also the Russian port of Tartus, for the russian control of the Mediterranean Sea. In the event of a conflict with the NATO, the Russian Black Sea fleet can refuel and reloading there and easily close the Strait of Gibraltar and so southern Europe separated from world ship trade. A doctrine of the Cold War but very alive in the brains of Putin.
The massive Russian bombardment began parallel with the regime offensive in northern Hama Governorate on 7 October. But the plan did not work, the SAA armored units in action were almost all destroyed. See some examples from October here. The small territorial gains you can call Pyrrhic victories.
Someone should think about it more.

The United States and the international community continue to practice strong rhetoric regarding protecting civilians in Syria. However, after over four years of conflict the plight for civilians in Syria continues to worsen.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon reported that the United Nations and its partners were unable to deliver food and aid to over 422,000 people in besieged areas in July. On August 13, US Representative to the United Nations Samantha Power decried the Syrian regime’s dropping of over 2,000 barrel bombs over a six-week period; the following weekend barrel bombs killed over 100 people in the Damascus suburb of Douma. Meanwhile, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Chief Antonio Guterres said the number of refugees is forecasted to reach 4.27 million by year end. The Assad regime atrocities answered with words but no action devastate Syrian society and bolster ISIS in its worldwide recruitment. Meanwhile, the opposition Syrian High Negotiations Committee’s unanswered demand for lifting of sieges, as stipulated in UN Security Council resolution 2254, threatens to derail Syria peace talks in Geneva. Key international leaders’ calls for implementation of the resolution, aimed at ending the violence, have not resulted in access to besieged areas.
On February 10, 2016 please join the Atlantic Council’s Rafik Hariri Center for the Middle East for a discussion on the scope, scale, and policy implications of the ongoing siege crisis. Dr. Mohamed Katoub will share his experiences as a dentist and medical worker from the besieged Damascus suburb of Douma. Valerie Szybala will present the findings of the newly released Siege Watch report that indicates there are well over 1 million Syrians under siege in Syria, and that the Syrian government and its allies are the main parties besieging civilian populations. Jan Jaap van Oosterzee will examine the implications of the sieges, and Faysal Itani will moderate the discussion.
Dr. Mohamed Katoub is the Public Relations Director for the United Medical Office of Eastern Ghouta. Valerie Szybala is the author of several influential reports including Slow Death: Life and Death in Syrian Communities under Siege and Assad Strikes Damascus. Jan Jaap van Oosterzee has been working on Middle East programs in various capacities with PAX, an international peace organization based in the Netherlands. Faysal Itani focuses on the war in Syria and its regional impact. Ambassador Frederic Hof specializes in the conflict in Syria.

هذا ولا يزال عدد الضحايا في إزدياد مع إستمرار عمليات الإنقاذ ورفع الأنقاض.
