In 1956 Allison moved to New York City and launched his jazz career performing with artists such as Stan Getz, Gerry Mulligan, Al Cohn, Zoot Sims, and Phil Woods. His debut album, Back Country Suite, was issued on the Prestige label in 1957. He formed his own trio in 1958 with Addison Farmer on bass and Nick Stabulas on drums.

http://jazzpolice.com Mose Allison is considered "The William Faulkner of Jazz." Melding Delta blues with boogie woogie and bebop on the piano, laid-back vocal stylings and often satirical, always heartfelt, lyrics, Mose is in a category all his own. His devoted musician fans range from Pete Townshend to Van Morrison to Tom Waits. This video has him singing "Who's Lovin' You Tonight?" and "If You Go To The City" live at the Artists' Quarter in St Paul, MN 9/22,2007

First of all, this Thursday is Don Stiernberg's BIRTHDAY, and I'm telling everyone. And though I firmly believe that age is just a number ... this one is a big number. So even if you're not too interested in the show – or Mose Allison (I can't imagine it!) – you might want to show up to have some cake and help point Don at the stage. Fun #1! Secondly, you may know that I started this series, partly, so that I could have a regular place to perform. Well, it turns out that quite a few musicians have been wanting to play at the Whiskey Lounge ... I'm quite grat...

One of these days I've got to get things right
I'm gonna do my business in the daylight
One of these days you know I've got to get things right
I'm gonna do my business out in the broad daylight
One of these days I've got to get things straight
I'm gonna stio actin' like a reprobate
One of these days you know I've got to get things straight
I'm gonna stop staying out late
And actin' like a reprobate
One of these days I've got to get in step
It won't be long 'fore I'll be needin help
One of these days you know I've got to get in step
The way I'm going I'll soon be needin' help
One of these days I've got to go back home
Sit out on my front porch and compose a poem
One of these days you know I've got to go back home
