LightWave 3D is a 3D computer graphics software developed by NewTek. It has been used in film, television, motion graphics, digital matte painting, visual effects, video games development, product design, architectural visualizations, virtual production, music videos, pre-visualizations and advertising.
LightWave is a software package used for rendering 3D images, both animated and static. It includes a fast rendering engine that supports such advanced features as realistic reflection and refraction, radiosity, caustics, and 999 render nodes. The 3D modeling component supports both polygon modeling and subdivision surfaces. The animation component has features such as reverse and forward kinematics for character animation, particle systems and dynamics. Programmers can expand LightWave's capabilities using an included SDK which offers Python, LScript (a proprietary scripting language) scripting and C language interfaces.
In 1988, Allen Hastings created a rendering and animation program called VideoScape 3D, and his friend Stuart Ferguson created a complementary 3D modeling program called Modeler, both sold by Aegis Software. NewTek planned to incorporate VideoScape and Modeler into its video editing suite, Video Toaster. Originally intended to be called "NewTek 3D Animation System for the Amiga", Hastings later came up with the name "LightWave 3D", inspired by two contemporary high-end 3D packages: Intelligent Light and Wavefront. In 1990, the Video Toaster suite was released, incorporating LightWave 3D, and running on the Commodore Amiga computer.

Lightwave 3D tutorial on how to create a basic fish
In this video: Overview of how Modeler works at all, interface usage. Buttons, categories, toolboxes, articulation controls, viewports. This is a from-the-ground up tutorial course on getting up to speed with Lightwave 3D, designed for total newbies. Join us, will ya? This is not an official anything at all, by the way, I am not affiliated with Newtek. Just a dopey guy who wanted to teach his friend some Lightwave.

Get your Flock on! James Willmott describes how to use Flocking in LightWave 11. Flocking allows easy creation of realistic, natural motion for all kinds of applications such as; birds, bees, planes, fleets of ships, hordes of beasts, missiles or anything else requiring motions that would be difficult to animate by hand. Part 1 of a 3 part tutorial.
Photos taken during 2 years, in various locations in Brazil and US, using several technics, like shaking the tripod and moving the zoom while shooting or attaching the camera to the car hood. I did the soundtrack afterwards, using Reaktor and Logic Pro. The video won the MacLife magazine Time-Lapse Contest. http://www.maclife.com/timelapse
www.beaconinstallation.com Beacon is a kinetic light installation with a mind of its own. An array of emergency beacon lights interacts with visitors, tracking their movement through the space, creating an immersive and playful experience. The installation exploits a transfer of technologies from existing industrial products. The beacon lights have had their internal parts replaced with custom hardware, enabling the rotation of the reflector and lamp brightness to be individually controlled. Thermal imaging cameras have been adapted to track the participants' movement through the space. 'Beacon' is orchestrated in real-time by a bespoke control system, which uses tracking information from the cameras to coordinate an interactive and highly responsive behaviour. Most non-photorealistic rendering solutions tend to involve brilliant but unwieldy new technologies, such as volume-based rendering engines or complex image analysis. Similar results can often be achieved using simpler methods and non-proprietary toolsets, even toolsets designed with other effects in mind. Our studio has been experimenting with ways to achieve a hand-painted look with basic tools that are common to most 3D applications, in this case Lightwave.
The story of a man who travels on a wave of light to escape reality only later to be imprisoned by it. Filmed with a motorized super 16 Krasnogorsk-3 through a Mir 1B 37mm lens into a Hypergonar Hifi 2 anamorphic projector lens. Three 100' rolls of Kodak Vision 3 500T and two rolls of 200T film were used. Filmed at the Bagley street bridge in Detroit, Milford Kensington park and Redford Michigan. Thanks, to Bernie O'Doherty for getting the camera in great shape, Niagara custom lab for the processing and Frame Discreet for the great 2k transfer. Please comment suggestions or anything really, thanks.
Short little jingle I did for new national tv channel HRT3. It was very fun project to work on, because every author involved in this initiative/competition had complete freedom to do anything he/she wanted, as long as it had number three incorporated in some way. Big thanks goes to Hrvoje Štefotić-Štef for making great sound design on such short notice! :)
Oh yea oh yea
I'm a flame
Burning bright
In the dark
Reach for the light
Hold me close
Hold me tight
Hold me hear tonight
Touch the truth
Not a lie
Reach into
Me deep inside
Can we be
Just you and I
Can we be
Alive
And the sun wont shine
There are two types of light
The kind that enter the sky
Yea there are two types are light
And one that comes from inside
And no the sun cannot shine
When you're by my side
No it can't shine as bright
It shouldn't enter the sky
No it can't shine as bright
It shouldn't enter the sky
