A perennial stream or perennial river is a stream or river that has continuous flow in parts of its stream bed all year round during years of normal rainfall. "Perennial" streams are contrasted with "intermittent" streams which normally cease flowing for weeks or months each year, and with "ephemeral" channels that flow only for hours or days following rainfall. During unusually dry years, a normally perennial stream may cease flowing, becoming intermittent for days, weeks, or months depending on severity of the drought. The boundaries between perennial, intermittent, and ephemeral channels are indefinite, and subject to a variety of identification methods adopted by local governments, academics, and others with a need to classify stream-flow permanence.
As stream flow decreases in dry weather, visible flow above the stream bed may not be readily evident, especially in streams with coarse substrate, where water is flowing beneath and between these particles. From a biological perspective, a stream may be considered flowing if sufficient water is available to support flow-dependent aquatic life, including fish and gill-breathing amphibians, benthic insects, crustaceans, and mollusks, many of which survive in shallow hyporheic flow beneath rocks or logs. This extreme low flow may not be detectable on typical USGS stream-flow gages, but is vital to stream ecology.

This presentation was given at the 2015 meeting of the Society for Range Management during the BLM AIM Symposium by Justin Jimenez.
Condition and trend information is critical to ensure the maintenance or improvement of riparian and stream systems under the BLM’s multiple use doctrine. Historically, the BLM has lacked a quantitative, standardized monitoring program to assess the condition and trend of lotic systems at multiple spatial scales. The AIM National Aquatic Monitoring Program was able to gather unbiased quantitative data and from those derive an overall report card for Utah’s stream systems on BLM land and restoration and conservation priorities for districts in the state. This has yielded important information on landscape variability and, when coupled with remote sensing techniques in development, will be a powerful tool in making management decisions regarding oil and gas activity.

Ecological Condition Assessments of California's Perennial Wadeable Streams: Highlights from the Surface Water Ambient Monitoring Program's Perennial Streams Assessment (PSA) February 16, 2012
In 2011, SWAMP's Perennial Streams Assessment (PSA) conducted the State Water Board's 12th continuous year of probability (statistical) monitoring of California's perennial, wadeable streams. To date, the program has collected biological data (invertebrates, algae) and associated chemical and habitat data from approximately 850 randomly selected sites statewide. These surveys have produced a wealth of data that can and should be used to inform many decisions made by California's water resource agencies. This presentation will highlight some of the most significant results from the first eight years of PSA and demonstrate ways that these data can go beyond 305(b) and 303(d) applications to significantly improve California's water quality programs. The results presented in this summary represent just a fraction of the potential uses of data generated by these ongoing surveys. As the data set becomes more robust, it will continue to support multiple uses for years to come. We will also present a series of analyses and products planned for the coming year.

Peter Ode moved to California in 1995 after completing his graduate work in stream insect
ecology and has worked to advance the use of biological indicators in California's water quality agencies ever since. He began working at the Department of Fish and Game's Aquatic Bioassessment Laboratory in 1995 (part of the Department's Water Pollution Control Laboratory, WPCL) and now serves as director of the WPCL. Since 2006, he has served as Bioassessment Coordinator for the State Water Board's SWAMP program and also serves as the State's technical lead for the development of statewide biological objectives for perennial streams.

This video was shot from the small Bushkill Street bridge crossing Bushkill Creek in Tatamy, Pennsylvania. The view is northward from the bridge looking upstream.
Water cycling through Earth's environment falls from the sky as rain infiltrating into soil. (Hydrologists call rain 'meteoric' water.) Below the soil layer this meteoric water percolates into bedrock taking up residence in the bedrock's pore spaces where it is now called groundwater. Some of this groundwater seeps from the bedrock to flow in streams.
In a climatic region with plenty of rainfall--such as Pennsylvania (Koeppen System Cfa to Dfa)--the year-round source of water flowing in perennial streams (excluding drought years) is groundwater. Hydrologists call this form of runoff baseflow: the normal or average level of water flowing in a given stream as a result of groundwater seepage. Pierre Perrault -- a 17th century French scientist -- was the first to demonstrate that water flowing in perennial streams was the result of water seeping from the water table out of the sides of a stream's channel. Thus streams flow, though it may not be raining or may not have rained for many days.
When a high-intensity storm -- such as a summer thunderstorm -- occurs, baseflow is augmented with additional water. Since the origin of this additional water is associated with individual rain storm events, hydrologists call this additional runoff stormflow. In humid regions where abundant precipitation is spread more or less evenly throughout a given year, the pore space in soils and bedrock is already saturated (already full of water). Thua the meteroic water infiltrating into soils and percolating into bedrock cannot be absorbed fast enough. Because there is no room for the water to be absorbed, this excess water flows laterally through the soil seeping into streams and increasing the streams' flow. This process, known as "throughflow," was first described in papers published in the 1960s and '70s by the eminent hydrologist J.D. Hewlett (see references below). The 'Hewlett Model' of runoff (also called the 'Variable Source Area Concept') describes conditions of runoff for humid regions. The operational details of the Hewlett Model lie in contradistinction to the Horton Model for runoff conditions in arid regions. See the writings of another eminent hydrologist R.E. A (very) few hydrology-related terms:
Perennial stream - A stream that flows year round, except perhaps during times of severe drought.
Intermittent stream - A stream with a seasonal flow pattern, e.g. one that flows only in winter, but not during other parts of the year (i.e. most of the streams in the mediterranean climate parts of California, i.e. the most highly populated parts).
Ephemeral stream - A stream that is dry most of the time containing flowing water only during or immediately after a rainstorm. Most common in desert regions where some stream channels have no flowing water for years on end.
Exotic (aka allogenic) stream - A stream in a desert region generally flowing year round, with its source in a more humid location. Example: The Nile River flows northward through the eastern Sahara Desert (and the modern-day nations of the Sudans and Egypt) into the Mediterranean Sea. However, the Nile's source is a small spring in the central African nation Burundi, where the first surface water contributing to the Nile's flow appears.
Examples of allogenic/exotic streams in the U.S. include the Colorado River (source in the Rocky Mountains), southern California's Mojave River (source in the San Bernardino Mountains), Nevada's Walker River (source in the Sierra Nevada), and Utah's Sevier River (source in the Wasatch Mountains). With the exception of the Colorado RIver, which flows to sea at the head of the Gulf of California in Mexico, the terminus for each of these American rivers lies in an enclosed basin where the surface flow either sinks into the desert sands or evaporates.

This is the story of a perennial stream. The water (students) keeps on flowing by forward, but the stream—the institutional life—remains the same. Thus, this is the story of every student, of every youth aspiring for high goals of life. Most of the events are from my own life and those of my erstwhile class-fellows, albeit attributed in the story to its characters.

Description: Climate change is projected to have an enormous effect on water resources in the western US, with cascading effects on river-dependent organisms. Recent studies show that increasing drought will lead to reduced water in many rivers in the southwestern US. For example, streamflow in the warm season has declined over the last century in the western US and is projected to continue decreasing over the next 100 years. In arid and semi-arid regions of the western US, it is likely that some perennial streams will shift to intermittent flow in response to climate-driven changes in runoff and evapotranspiration.
We addressed the following two questions: How will small stream low flows be affected by warmer conditions in the Upper Colorado River Basin (UCRB) and how will riparian vegetation respond?
To address these questions we: Modeled stream low flow metrics on ungaged streams in the UCRB and sampled riparian vegetation along a hydrologic gradient (perennial to intermittent) to develop relationships between flow and biotic responses.
We found the majority of perennial and weakly intermittent streams that are threatened under warmer conditions to be small, high elevation streams. Further, with our field vegetation data we are able to suggest how riparian plant communities will shift in the future and how managers can draw from these results for restoration planning in the context of climate change.

Best Management Practices for forestry operations are aimed at preventing water quality problems and minimizing environmental impacts. Sometimes the difference between successful BMP compliance and a violation comes down to accurately identifying streams as perennial, intermittent, or ephemeral. LeRoy Poff, Department of Biology, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO Description: Climate change is projected to have an enormous effect on water resources in the western US, with cascading effects on river-dependent organisms. Recent studies show that increasing drought will lead to reduced water in many rivers in the southwestern US. For example, streamflow in the warm season has declined over the last century in the western US and is projected to continue decreasing over the next 100 years. In arid and semi-arid regions of the western US, it is likely that some perennial streams will shift to intermittent flow in response to climate-driven changes in runoff and evapotranspiration. We addressed the following two questions: How will small stream low flows be affected by warmer conditions in the Upper Colorado River Basin (UCRB) and how will riparian vegetation respond? To address these questions we: Modeled stream low flow metrics on ungaged streams in the UCRB and sampled riparian vegetation along a hydrologic gradient (perennial to intermittent) to develop relationships between flow and biotic responses. We found the majority of perennial and weakly intermittent streams that are threatened under warmer conditions to be small, high elevation streams. Further, with our field vegetation data we are able to suggest how riparian plant communities will shift in the future and how managers can draw from these results for restoration planning in the context of climate change. -

This presentation was given at the 2015 meeting of the Society for Range Management during the BLM AIM Symposium by Justin Jimenez. Condition and trend information is critical to ensure the maintenance or improvement of riparian and stream systems under the BLM’s multiple use doctrine. Historically, the BLM has lacked a quantitative, standardized monitoring program to assess the condition and trend of lotic systems at multiple spatial scales. The AIM National Aquatic Monitoring Program was able to gather unbiased quantitative data and from those derive an overall report card for Utah’s stream systems on BLM land and restoration and conservation priorities for districts in the state. Dedicated to Lord Shiva (Kedareswar) and Goddess Gouri, the temple is situated within the same premises next to the Mukteswar Temple. Beside of the temple subsists a perennial stream. According to Kapila Samhita (a religious text) a single sip of water from the tank absolves the drinker from the repeated cycles of birth and death. The legend goes that king Lalatendu Kesari, after a tragic episode relating to two lovers Kedar and Gouri, had built this temple in their memory. Near the temple there is a `Khirakunda` and another Marichi Kunda`. The water of Khira Kinda is considered hygienic and digestive for which it is carried to different places for drinking purpose. The town of Red River began in earnest in the 1870s, when miners from nearby Elizabethtown in the Moreno Valley were drawn in by gold strikes in the area and trappers sought game. It was named after the perennial stream, Red River, that flowed through the town, coming from the northern slopes of Wheeler Peak. By 1895, Red River was a booming mining camp, with gold, silver and copper in some abundance, and a population estimated at three thousand. Mining hit its peak in 1897, and by 1905 the mining and the population dwindled but the town survived, gaining a reputation as a great getaway from hot weather and as a trout fishing paradise. The last serious mining efforts extended until 1931. By that time tourism had become the principal economic livelihood.[ -

As stream flow decreases in dry weather, visible flow above the stream bed may not be readily evident, especially in streams with coarse substrate, where water is flowing beneath and between these particles. From a biological perspective, a stream may be considered flowing if sufficient water is available to support flow-dependent aquatic life, including fish and gill-breathing amphibians, benthic insects, crustaceans, and mollusks, many of which survive in shallow hyporheic flow beneath rocks or logs. This extreme low flow may not be detectable on typical USGS stream-flow gages, but is vital to stream ecology.

Condition and trend information is critical to ensure the maintenance or improvement of riparian and stream systems under the BLM’s multiple use doctrine. Historically, the BLM has lacked a quantitative, standardized monitoring program to assess the condition and trend of lotic systems at multiple spatial scales. The AIM National Aquatic Monitoring Program was able to gather unbiased quantitative data and from those derive an overall report card for Utah’s stream systems on BLM land and restoration and conservation priorities for districts in the state. This has yielded important information on landscape variability and, when coupled with remote sensing techniques in development, will be a powerful tool in making management decisions regarding oil and gas activity.

Ecological Condition Assessments of California's Perennial Wadeable Streams: Highlights from the Surface Water Ambient Monitoring Program's Perennial Streams Assessment (PSA) February 16, 2012
In 2011, SWAMP's Perennial Streams Assessment (PSA) conducted the State Water Board's 12th continuous year of probability (statistical) monitoring of California's perennial, wadeable streams. To date, the program has collected biological data (invertebrates, algae) and associated chemical and habitat data from approximately 850 randomly selected sites statewide. These surveys have produced a wealth of data that can and should be used to inform many decisions made by California's water resource agencies. This presentation will highlight some of the most significant results from the first eight years of PSA and demonstrate ways that these data can go beyond 305(b) and 303(d) applications to significantly improve California's water quality programs. The results presented in this summary represent just a fraction of the potential uses of data generated by these ongoing surveys. As the data set becomes more robust, it will continue to support multiple uses for years to come. We will also present a series of analyses and products planned for the coming year.

Peter Ode moved to California in 1995 after completing his graduate work in stream insect
ecology and has worked to advance the use of biological indicators in California's water quality agencies ever since. He began working at the Department of Fish and Game's Aquatic Bioassessment Laboratory in 1995 (part of the Department's Water Pollution Control Laboratory, WPCL) and now serves as director of the WPCL. Since 2006, he has served as Bioassessment Coordinator for the State Water Board's SWAMP program and also serves as the State's technical lead for the development of statewide biological objectives for perennial streams.

This video depicts Bushkill Creek in Northampton County, Pennsylvania at two different times: during a period of baseflow (23 June 2009) and a period of stormflow (18 June 2009). This video was shot from the small Bushkill Street bridge crossing Bushkill Creek in Tatamy, Pennsylvania. The view is northward from the bridge looking upstream.
Water cycling through Earth's environment falls from the sky as rain infiltrating into soil. (Hydrologists call rain 'meteoric' water.) Below the soil layer this meteoric water percolates into bedrock taking up residence in the bedrock's pore spaces where it is now called groundwater. Some of this groundwater seeps from the bedrock to flow in streams.
In a climatic region with plenty of rainfall--such as Pennsylvania (Koeppen System Cfa to Dfa)--the year-round source of water flowing in perennial streams (excluding drought years) is groundwater. Hydrologists call this form of runoff baseflow: the normal or average level of water flowing in a given stream as a result of groundwater seepage. Pierre Perrault -- a 17th century French scientist -- was the first to demonstrate that water flowing in perennial streams was the result of water seeping from the water table out of the sides of a stream's channel. Thus streams flow, though it may not be raining or may not have rained for many days.
When a high-intensity storm -- such as a summer thunderstorm -- occurs, baseflow is augmented with additional water. Since the origin of this additional water is associated with individual rain storm events, hydrologists call this additional runoff stormflow. In humid regions where abundant precipitation is spread more or less evenly throughout a given year, the pore space in soils and bedrock is already saturated (already full of water). Thua the meteroic water infiltrating into soils and percolating into bedrock cannot be absorbed fast enough. Because there is no room for the water to be absorbed, this excess water flows laterally through the soil seeping into streams and increasing the streams' flow. This process, known as "throughflow," was first described in papers published in the 1960s and '70s by the eminent hydrologist J.D. Hewlett (see references below). The 'Hewlett Model' of runoff (also called the 'Variable Source Area Concept') describes conditions of runoff for humid regions. The operational details of the Hewlett Model lie in contradistinction to the Horton Model for runoff conditions in arid regions. See the writings of another eminent hydrologist R.E. Horton for the Horton Model's details. All basic hydrology textbooks contain discussions of both the Hewlett and Horton models of runoff generation.

Perennial stream - A stream that flows year round, except perhaps during times of severe drought.
Intermittent stream - A stream with a seasonal flow pattern, e.g. one that flows only in winter, but not during other parts of the year (i.e. most of the streams in the mediterranean climate parts of California, i.e. the most highly populated parts).
Ephemeral stream - A stream that is dry most of the time containing flowing water only during or immediately after a rainstorm. Most common in desert regions where some stream channels have no flowing water for years on end.
Exotic (aka allogenic) stream - A stream in a desert region generally flowing year round, with its source in a more humid location. Example: The Nile River flows northward through the eastern Sahara Desert (and the modern-day nations of the Sudans and Egypt) into the Mediterranean Sea. However, the Nile's source is a small spring in the central African nation Burundi, where the first surface water contributing to the Nile's flow appears.
Examples of allogenic/exotic streams in the U.S. include the Colorado River (source in the Rocky Mountains), southern California's Mojave River (source in the San Bernardino Mountains), Nevada's Walker River (source in the Sierra Nevada), and Utah's Sevier River (source in the Wasatch Mountains). With the exception of the Colorado RIver, which flows to sea at the head of the Gulf of California in Mexico, the terminus for each of these American rivers lies in an enclosed basin where the surface flow either sinks into the desert sands or evaporates.

Description: Climate change is projected to have an enormous effect on water resources in the western US, with cascading effects on river-dependent organisms. Recent studies show that increasing drought will lead to reduced water in many rivers in the southwestern US. For example, streamflow in the warm season has declined over the last century in the western US and is projected to continue decreasing over the next 100 years. In arid and semi-arid regions of the western US, it is likely that some perennial streams will shift to intermittent flow in response to climate-driven changes in runoff and evapotranspiration.
We addressed the following two questions: How will small stream low flows be affected by warmer conditions in the Upper Colorado River Basin (UCRB) and how will riparian vegetation respond?
To address these questions we: Modeled stream low flow metrics on ungaged streams in the UCRB and sampled riparian vegetation along a hydrologic gradient (perennial to intermittent) to develop relationships between flow and biotic responses.
We found the majority of perennial and weakly intermittent streams that are threatened under warmer conditions to be small, high elevation streams. Further, with our field vegetation data we are able to suggest how riparian plant communities will shift in the future and how managers can draw from these results for restoration planning in the context of climate change.

A stream is a body of water with a current, confined within a bed and stream banks. Depending on its locale or certain characteristics, a stream may be referred to as a branch, brook, beck, burn, creek, "crick", gill (occasionally ghyll), kill, lick, mill race, rill, river, syke, bayou, rivulet, streamage, wash, run, or runnel.
Streams are important as conduits in the water cycle, instruments in groundwater recharge, and corridors for fish and wildlife migration. The biological habitat in the immediate vicinity of a stream is called a riparian zone. Given the status of the ongoing Holocene extinction, streams play an important corridor role in connecting fragmented habitats and thus in conserving biodiversity. The study of streams and waterways in general is known as surface hydrology and is a core element of environmental geography.
A stream smaller than a creek, especially one that is fed by a spring or seep. It is usually small and easily forded. A brook is characterised by its shallowness and its bed being composed primarily of rocks.
To qualify as a stream it must be either recurring or perennial. Recurring (intermittent) streams have water in the channel for at least part of the year. A stream of the first order is a stream which does not have any other recurring or perennial stream feeding into it.

Enclosed by towering rocks and watered by a perennial stream, Petra not only possessed the advantages of a fortress, but controlled the main commercial routes which passed through it to Gaza in the west, to Bosra and Damascus in the north, to Aqaba and Leuce Come on the Red Sea, and across the desert to the Persian Gulf.
Petra is listed in Egyptian campaign accounts and the Amarna letters as Pel, Sela or Seir. Though the city was founded relatively late, a sanctuary has existed there since very ancient times. Stations 19 through 26 of the stations list of Exodus are places associated with Petra. This part of the country was biblically assigned to the Horites, the predecessors of the Edomites. The habits of the original natives may have influenced the Nabataean custom of burying the dead and offering worship in half-excavated caves. Although Petra is usually identified with Sela, which means a rock, the Biblical references refer to it as "the cleft in the rock", referring to its entrance. In the parallel passage, however, Sela is understood to mean simply "the rock" (2 Chronicles xxv. 12, see LXX).
The temples were first discovered by French missionaries in 1860. Henri Mahout, a French botanist started intensive research and restoration programs. These research efforts continued until 1968, when the Vietnam war disrupted the studies. Initially, he did not believe that the temples were built by Cambodians, but by another race which had concurred and occupied Cambodia for over 2000 years ago. His theory would later be proven to be incorrect, after that researchers discovered scripts on the walls of the temples, and stone sculptures, that have made it possible for archeologists to piece together the history of Cambodia. Now it is known that Angkor, was the great capital city of the Khmer empire from the city’s founding in about AD 880 until about 1225.
The history of Angkor Wat dates back to the kingdom of Funan. This kingdom was established by an Indian Brahmin, and in AD200, the country was peacefully settled by Indian traders. Four hundred years later, the kingdom had become a prosperous trading region. As the area was located on the Pilgrim rout between China and India, Hinduism and Chinese Buddhism was adopted by the new settlers. The Indian and Chinese influence can still be felt in Cambodia, and the temples of Angkor Wat closely resembles Hindu and Buddhist temples that can be found in Northern India and in Nepal. In the end of AD600, the Funan Empire lost much of its power to the kingdom of Chenla. The capital of this new empire, Sambor, was located about 40 miles to the Southeast of Angkor. During this time, beautiful sculptures and carvings in sand-stone was popular. In AD750, a king with a reputation of being a war-like person, who was able to expand the Chenla kingdom. However, trade with India stopped, and the Indonesian Empire raised to power.

Streams are important as conduits in the water cycle, instruments in groundwater recharge, and corridors for fish and wildlife migration. The biological habitat in the immediate vicinity of a stream is called a riparian zone. Given the status of the ongoing Holocene extinction, streams play an important corridor role in connecting fragmented habitats and thus in conserving biodiversity. The study of streams and waterways in general is known as surface hydrology and is a core element of environmental geography.
A stream smaller than a creek, especially one that is fed by a spring or seep. It is usually small and easily forded. A brook is characterised by its shallowness and its bed being composed primarily of rocks.
To qualify as a stream it must be either recurring or perennial. Recurring (intermittent) streams have water in the channel for at least part of the year. A stream of the first order is a stream which does not have any other recurring or perennial stream feeding into it.

Installed a waterfall on the hillside of my backyard. Took about 45 hours to get to this point. Every single rock used is recycled from digging out the basin and stream bed.

A stream is a body of water with a current, confined within a bed and stream banks. Depending on its locale or certain characteristics, a stream may be referred to as a branch, brook, beck, burn, creek, "crick", gill (occasionally ghyll), kill, lick, mill race, rill, river, syke, bayou, rivulet, streamage, wash, run, or runnel.
Streams are important as conduits in the water cycle, instruments in groundwater recharge, and corridors for fish and wildlife migration. The biological habitat in the immediate vicinity of a stream is called a riparian zone. Given the status of the ongoing Holocene extinction, streams play an important corridor role in connecting fragmented habitats and thus in conserving biodiversity. The study of streams and waterways in general is known as surface hydrology and is a core element of environmental geography.
A stream smaller than a creek, especially one that is fed by a spring or seep. It is usually small and easily forded. A brook is characterised by its shallowness and its bed being composed primarily of rocks.
To qualify as a stream it must be either recurring or perennial. Recurring (intermittent) streams have water in the channel for at least part of the year. A stream of the first order is a stream which does not have any other recurring or perennial stream feeding into it.

This wet/dry data set provides a watershed-scale snapshot of river conditions, with enough resolution to detect trends in relatively short reaches. It has allowed us to identify groundwater recharge opportunities -- reaches of the San Pedro where supplemental groundwater input is likely to increase the length of permanent surface water -- along with providing a tool for monitoring the impact of new recharge projects. Wet/dry has also been used by governmental agencies on other streams in Arizona, including BLM, National Park Service, and Pima County.

Dale's recent work has focused on the Verde and San Pedro rivers, in each case analyzing the whole watershed to determine the places and strategies of highest priority. ABOUT KATHRYN KUFAHL:
Kathryn and her husband, Erv, retired to Stone County in the Ozarks of Missouri in 2005. Coming from the frozen tundra of Green Bay, Kathryn now delights in the wonderful long growing seasons of the Ozarks.
Although some edibles are always present in her mixed gardens, Kathryn's love is ornamental plantings. Viburnums are favorite shrubs and ten different cultivars are part of their home landscape.
Trying something new each year is a goal. Kathryn enjoys growing new annuals every season. Perennials that draw in butterflies and hummingbirds are always favored in their gardens.
Meeting other gardeners and sharing conversations about plants is one of Kathryn's joys. She is active with the Master Gardeners Speakers Bureau and is happy to respond to speaking invitations.

This presentation was recorded on May 18, 2013 at the annual Master Gardeners of the Ozarks Garden Tour. This year the Garden Tour event was held at Five Oaks Farms in Forsyth, Missouri, in the SW part of the state. Five Oaks Farms is the estate of Tony and Robin Collier. They are the owners of National Enzyme Company in Forsyth, Missouri. Their 142 acre estate includes 25 acres of manicured lawns, gardens and a commercial hydroponic lettuce production facility. The event featured 6 speakers on a variety of topics as well as tours of the gardens, greenhouse and other facilities at Five Oaks. This is the third video of the series. In the video, Kathryn covers perennial gardening, especially growing and maintaining perennials in the Ozarks.
ABOUT KATHRYN KUFAHL:
Kathryn and her husband, Erv, retired to Stone County in the Ozarks of Missouri in 2005. Coming from the frozen tundra of Green Bay, Kathryn now delights in the wonderful long growing seasons of the Ozarks.
Although some edibles are always present in her mixed gardens, Kathryn's love is ornamental plantings. Viburnums are favorite shrubs and ten different cultivars are part of their home landscape.
Trying something new each year is a goal. Kathryn enjoys growing new annuals every season. Perennials that draw in butterflies and hummingbirds are always favored in their gardens.
Meeting other gardeners and sharing conversations about plants is one of Kathryn's joys. She is active with the Master Gardeners Speakers Bureau and is happy to respond to speaking invitations.
