The Persian Empire is one of the most mysterious major civilizations in the ancient world.
Persia became an empire under the Achaemenid king, Cyrus the Great, who created a policy of religious and cultural tolerance that became the hallmark of Persian rule.
The empire that Cyrus left behind expanded to India and Greece under the reign of Darius I, who built the capital of Persepolis.
Among the engineering feats of the Persian Empire were an innovative system of water management accomplished with simple tools; a cross-continent paved roadway stretching 1500 miles that made travel safe and communication possible; a canal linking the Nile to the Red Sea, a forerunner of the modern Suez Canal; and the creation of one of the Seven Wonders of the World
Cyrus The Great was a Persian king, and also the first person in the history to introduce the "Human Rights" to the world.

How the Persian Empire Was Built - Documentary Films
The Persian Empire was created by Cyrus II, known as Cyrus the Great (559-529 BC). Cyrus first defeated another Iranian people called the Medes, then in 547 Cyrus defeated the kingdom of Lydia (in what is now Turkey) at the battle of Pterya and he became the ruler of most of Asia Minor. Soon afterwards Cyrus also defeated the Greek cities on the Turkish coast. (These had been founded by the Greeks as colonies many years before).
However Cyrus adopted a policy of allowing conquered areas autonomy (a certain amount of independence) provided they paid their taxes. The Persians were also very tolerant of local religions. Later Persian rulers also followed this policy. Under Darius the Persian Empire was divided into areas called satrapies and each was ruled by a man called a satrap.
In 539 BC the Persians conquered the rich and powerful city-state of Babylon. The king of Babylon had ruled Syria and Phoenicia (modern day Lebanon) and both of these were now added to the Persian Empire.
Cyrus was followed by Cambyses II (529-522 BC). In 525 BC he conquered Egypt. He died in 522 BC and was replaced by Darius.
For the first part of his reign Darius had to deal with rebellions in his empire. He then fought wars with Greece. In 499 BC the Greek cities on the coast of Turkey rebelled. Darius quickly crushed the revolt but in 490 BC he decided to invade Greece to punish the Greeks for assisting the rebels. However the Persians were defeated by the Athenians at the battle of Marathon.
In 480 BC another Persian ruler, Xerxes, invaded Greece. This time the Persians captured Athens and they burned the Acropolis. However their fleet was crushed at a naval battle at Salamis. In 479 BC the Greeks won a decisive battle at Plataea, which assured Greek independence. Xerxes was assassinated in 465 BC.
Despite its brilliance the Persian Empire declined after 400 BC. For one thing the empire suffered from its sheer size, which made it difficult to control. The empire suffered a series of rebellions. It also suffered from political instability. Another ruler, Artaxerxes III, was assassinated in 338 BC. He ruled over the greatest empire the world had seen at the time. Yet, the most amazing thing about his life and exploits is that the Almighty God of the Bible foretold his exploits and actually named him around 200 years before he was even born. The world's first declaration of human rights "Cyrus Cylinder" was discovered in the ruins of Babylon in Mesopotamia and a replica of the cylinder is kept at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City as the first symbol of universal human rights.
Naqsh-e Rajab is one very old rockface inscriptions in Iran that was made by Shapur I the Great, second Persian king of the Sasanian Empire in 240 CE.
Here Shapur I calls himself " King of Kings of the Iranians, and non-Iranians, King of Kings of the Aryans, grandson of the divine king Papak."
"In Armenian sources, the Parthians, Medes and Persians are collectively referred to as Aryans."

Cyrus the Great (600 – 530 BCE) was a towering figure in the history of mankind. As the "father of the Iranian nation", he was the first world leader to be referred to as “The Great”. Cyrus founded the first world empire – and the second Iranian dynastic empire (the Achaemenids) – after defeating the Median dynasty and uniting the Medes with the other major Iranian tribe, the Persians.
Cyrus’ spectacular conquests triggered the age of Empire Building, as carried out by his successors as well as by the later Greeks and Romans.
Cyrus' religion
Almost nothing is known about Cyrus’ personal beliefs, but Xenophon reports to us that in religious matters he followed the guidance of the Magians at his court. Although this is not universally agreed, Mary Boyce has argued that Cyrus was indeed a Zoroastrian and that he thus followed in the footsteps of his ancestors, from when they were Median vassals in Anshan. She has pointed out that the fire altars and the mausoleum at Pasargadae demonstrate Zoroastrian practices, and has cited Greek texts as evidence that Zoroastrian priests held positions of authority at Cyrus’ court.

However Cyrus adopted a policy of allowing conquered areas autonomy (a certain amount of independence) provided they paid their taxes. The Persians were also very tolerant of local religions. Later Persian rulers also followed this policy. Under Darius the Persian Empire was divided into areas called satrapies and each was ruled by a man called a satrap.
In 539 BC the Persians conquered the rich and powerful city-state of Babylon. The king of Babylon had ruled Syria and Phoenicia (modern day Lebanon) and both of these were now added to the Persian Empire.
Cyrus was followed by Cambyses II (529-522 BC). In 525 BC he conquered Egypt. He died in 522 BC and was replaced by Darius.
For the first part of his reign Darius had to deal with rebellions in his empire. He then fought wars with Greece. In 499 BC the Greek cities on the coast of Turkey rebelled. Darius quickly crushed the revolt but in 490 BC he decided to invade Greece to punish the Greeks for assisting the rebels. However the Persians were defeated by the Athenians at the battle of Marathon.
In 480 BC another Persian ruler, Xerxes, invaded Greece. This time the Persians captured Athens and they burned the Acropolis. However their fleet was crushed at a naval battle at Salamis. In 479 BC the Greeks won a decisive battle at Plataea, which assured Greek independence. Xerxes was assassinated in 465 BC.
Despite its brilliance the Persian Empire declined after 400 BC. For one thing the empire suffered from its sheer size, which made it difficult to control. The empire suffered a series of rebellions. It also suffered from political instability. Another ruler, Artaxerxes III, was assassinated in 338 BC. Cyrus II of Persia (Old Persian: KUURUUSHA[6] Kūruš; New Persian: کوروش بزرگ ; c. 600 or 576 – 530 BC[7]), commonly known as Cyrus the Great [8] and also known as Cyrus the Elder, was the founder of the Achaemenid Empire.[9] Under his rule, the empire embraced all the previous civilized states of the ancient Near East,[9] expanded vastly and eventually conquered most of Southwest Asia and much of Central Asia and the Caucasus. From the Mediterranean Sea and Hellespont in the west to the Indus River in the east, Cyrus the Great created the largest empire the world had yet seen.[10] Under his successors, the empire eventually stretched from parts of the Balkans (Bulgaria-Pannonia) and Thrace-Macedonia in the west, to the Indus Valley in the east. His regal titles in full were The Great King, King of Persia, King of Anshan, King of Media, King of Babylon, King of Sumer and Akkad, and King of the Four Corners of the World. He also proclaimed what has been identified by scholars and archaeologists[who?] to be the oldest known declaration of human rights, which was transcribed onto the Cyrus Cylinder sometime between 539 and 530 BC.[11][12][13] This view has been criticized by some[14] as a misunderstanding[15] of what they claim to be the Cylinder's generic nature as a traditional statement of the sort that new monarchs may make at the beginning of their reign.[12][13][16]
The reign of Cyrus the Great lasted between 29 and 31 years. Cyrus built his empire by conquering first the Median Empire, then the Lydian Empire and eventually the Neo-Babylonian Empire. Either before or after Babylon, he led an expedition into central Asia, which resulted in major campaigns that were described as having brought "into subjection every nation without exception".[17] Cyrus did not venture into Egypt, as he himself died in battle, fighting the Massagetae along the Syr Darya in December 530 BC.[18][19] He was succeeded by his son, Cambyses II, who managed to add to the empire by conquering Egypt, Nubia, and Cyrenaica during his short rule.
Cyrus the Great respected the customs and religions of the lands he conquered.[20] It is said that in universal history, the role of the Achaemenid Empire founded by Cyrus lies in its very successful model for centralized administration and establishing a government working to the advantage and profit of its subjects.[9] In fact, the administration of the empire through satraps and the vital principle of forming a government at Pasargadae were the works of Cyrus.[21] What is sometimes referred to as the Edict of Restoration (actually two edicts) described in the Bible as being made by Cyrus the Great left a lasting legacy on the Jewish religion where because of his policies in Babylonia, he is referred to by the Jewish Bible as Messiah (Isaiah 44:24, 26–45:3, 13) and is the only non-Jew to be called so

Lady Gaga gives the best interview EVER, stopping by Bravo's 'Watch What Happens Live' to give her opinion on Miley Cyrus' VMA performance, twerking, One Direction, and Beyoncé! Hey Little Monsters welcome back to ClevverMusic! Ok, we're literally dying over Gaga's hilarious live interview with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live dubbed "Extravagaganza"! Mother Monster stopped by the clubhouse to give a rare TV interview and no topic was off limits. Dressed in her huge 90's wig, a sparkly clam bra and feather skirt Gaga sipped on some white wine as Andy fired off games and questions from fans. The most talked about part of the interview came during the game "Plead the Fifth" in which Gaga didn't plead the 5th once! After admitting she doesn't mind when famous people talks badly about her and that she used to do molly "in my raver days", Andy tested her with a Miley Cyrus question, "What did you think of Miley at the VMAs?" and Gaga shockingly obliged with this lengthy explanation...
As always, the ever eloquent Gaga gave the perfect answer. And we can't wait to hear if Miley's responds! with a 'thank you'?! And no, the juicy interview didn't end there. In a related question Andy asked Gaga, "Can you twerk?" and she pleaded, "I think people need to stop putting the letter T in front of the word 'werk'!" Well said, Gaga, we'll take that into consideration. Speaking of twerking, Andy asked Gaga which member of One Direction she thought was the cutest and Mother Monster politely said she could not choose. But! She did take the opportunity to say regarding their boos at the VMAs, "I was completely embarrassed for MTV and for America during that award show..." As were we, not cool. What is cool was how candid Gaga was on the Bravo show, maybe it was the alcohol, maybe it was Andy, but Gaga was in a fabulous mood. The Miley Cyrus twerking saga continues and this time it's Nicki Minaj joins in on the conversation giving her two cents about the stars twerking abilities!
Hey Guys—Brianna Baxter here filling in for Misty Kingma and we've got a story for you!!
If you guy thought Miley Cyrus' twerking performance at the VMA's, or in a unicorn suit, or everywhere she goes was something, then you're going to love what Nicki Minaj had to say about it.
Nicki sat down with Ellen—when the talk show host brought up a great point, that Nicki's been twerking forever. Hello—Miley didn't make up the move, people!
Ellen shows some videos of Nicki Minaj doing the infamous move saying, "People weren't outraged when you were twerking, see no body got upset when you did it!"
Nicki laughs, pauses for a minute, then comes out with, "See, it's the white girl thing!" Of course the audience looses it and bursts into laughter, but Nicki gets serious saying, "No seriously, if a white girl does something that seems to be like black, it's like black people think, oh she's embracing our culture so they kind of ride with it."
But you guys, that's not it...in true Nicki fashion, she gives us another side to the story saying, "Then white people think she must be cool because she doing something black... it's weird!"
It's really all in good fun—you know these two ladies definitely respect each other's music and their skills! I mean, I bet Miley learned some moves from Nicki Minaj!
No shade from one star to another, just some good fun and Nicki does explain why her twerking hasn't caused quite the frenzy that Miley's dance move has saying, "If a black person does a black thing it ain't that poppin'...It's clearly obvious, Ellen!"
