Therese or Thérèse is a variant of Teresa. Therese (and variants Therèse, Teréz or Thérèse) may refer to:
Thérèse is a film about the life of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux. It was first released in 1986 and directed by Alain Cavalier.
Like two of her older sisters before her, Thérèse Martin is determined to become a Carmelite nun even though she is officially too young to enter the order. Thérèse's stubborn piety wins through, and her love affair with Jesus transfigures her short life. Alain Cavalier's account of Thérèse's joy in her vocation is based on her spiritual autobiography, The Story of a Soul.
The film was first shown on British television in 1987 on a nun-themed film evening, with Black Narcissus, and was introduced by Marina Warner. 'I think Thérèse is a rare and beautiful film... no film has ever before transmitted so involvingly the bliss the mystics describe of communion with God, the intense pleasure a saint like Thérèse felt at her intimacy with Jesus, the deprivation she experienced when He seemed to be absent and the comfort and affection of young women sequestered together... Cavalier's visual style, the film's restrained spectrum, its dove greys, bistres, waxy whites, recall the quiet images Gwen John painted in Normandy of nuns reading, praying... Cavalier scans the properties of convent life... He has learned from Robert Bresson how to linger on an image, how to give symbolic intensity to humdrum objects, by isolating them in the frame, and gentle repetition.'
Thérèse is an opera in two acts by Jules Massenet to a French libretto by Jules Claretie. While Thérèse remains among Massenet's lesser-known works, the piece has spawned a number of revivals and recordings.
Thérèse was first performed at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo on 7 February 1907, featuring Lucy Arbell in the title role, Edmond Clément as Armand de Clerval and Hector Dufranne as André Thorel. For the Paris premiere at the Opéra-Comique in 1911, Arbell and Clément repeated their roles, while the off-stage harpsichord in the minuet was played by Louis Diémer; the work on this occasion was paired in a double-bill with the premiere of Ravel's L'heure espagnole.
The US public performance premiere of the work was presented by Amato Opera on 1 June 1985 with piano accompaniment and featured Caryn Lerner, James Landers and Roger Hayden in the principal roles. A slightly abridged concert version of the opera was presented in New York in 2007 featuring Julie De Vaere in the title role. The US West Coast premiere of the complete opera was presented in concert on 24 April 2013 at La Sierra University in Riverside, California featuring Cynthia Jansen, Kevin St. Clair and Aram Barsamian in the principal roles and Aaron Ball and Owen Lovejoy in comprimario roles.
Lloyd is a 2001 American comedy film.
The film is based on an 11-year-old child named Lloyd, and he is the "class clown." He often gets in trouble with teachers, one of which is very strict. When he tries to rebel, he is put into a class for "less enthusiastic students." Once there, he teams up with other students in the group: Troy, Carla, and Storm. He soon falls in love with the class' newest member, Tracy. However, she is taken by Storm. When Lloyd talks to his mother, she tells him that he can still win her back by being himself.
The role of Lloyd is played by Todd Bosley. Tom Arnold, a friend of the producers, played a small role.
Lloyd is a name originating with the Welsh adjective llwyd, most often understood as meaning "grey" but with other meanings as well. The name can be used both as a personal name and as a surname. The name has many variations and a few derivations, mainly as a result of the difficulty in representing the initial double-L for non-Welsh speakers and the translation of the Welsh diphthong ŵy. Lloyd is the most common form of the name encountered in the modern era, with the Welsh spelling Llwyd increasingly common in recent times.
The vast majority of Wales continued to use the patronymic system well into the early modern period, and the families that used family surnames passed on from one generation to the next remained exceptional. However, the name Lloyd/Llwyd and certain other Welsh adjectives such as goch ("red", evolving into the Welsh surname Gough) became "fixed epithet" passed on through the generations and functioned as family surnames as early as the 14th century.
This is a character guide for the Game Boy Advance game Fire Emblem. Each character has his or her class labeled. A class is a category within the Fire Emblem series that outlines a unit's characteristics. Along with the character's class is their "promotion class" — the class that the character will upgrade to upon promotion. If a character has no promotion class, it means that they were already promoted when recruited into the party. Also mentioned for some characters are "supports." Supports are side conversations between characters which can result in statistical bonuses and character development (see here for more information about supports).
(a.k.a. Lyn)
Lyn (リン, Rin) is the first female main character in the series since Fire Emblem Gaiden. Although her full name is Lyndis (リンディス, Rindisu), she is referred to in almost all screens by her Sacaen name 'Lyn' throughout the game. The two names are generally regarded to be interchangeable, depending on who addresses her. She is 18 (15 in the Japanese version) at the beginning of the events of Fire Emblem.
