The Best may refer to:
A greatest hits album, sometimes called a best of album or a catalog album, is a compilation of songs by a particular artist or band. Most often the track list contains previously released recordings with a high degree of notability. However to increase the appeal, especially to people who already own the original release, it is common to include remixes and/or alternate takes of popular songs; even new material (previously unreleased). At times a greatest hits compilation is the original release for songs that have themselves been released as a single and charted successfully.
Madonna's The Immaculate Collection is the best selling greatest hits compilation by a solo artist; all of the songs on it are presented in different versions than the original hit versions. The Eagles' Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975) is the best selling greatest hits compilation by a group and also one of the ten best selling albums in history. Johnny Mathis's Johnny's Greatest Hits (1958) is generally considered the first greatest hits album. It was popular, remaining on the Billboard Top Albums Chart for a then record-breaking 490 continuous weeks. Greatest hits albums are typically produced after an artist has had enough successful songs to fill out an album release. Some artists, such as Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Kenny Rogers, Aerosmith, Kiss, U2, Los Tigres del Norte, Queen and Billy Joel, have released multiple greatest hits albums through their careers. Some greatest hits albums are released only at the end of the artist or group's career. Creed released a greatest hits album after they disbanded.
Philip David Charles "Phil" Collins, LVO (born 30 January 1951) is an English singer-songwriter, drummer, pianist and actor best known as a drummer and vocalist for British progressive rock group Genesis and as a solo artist.
Collins sang the lead vocals on several chart hits in the United Kingdom and the United States between 1975 and 2010, either as a solo artist or with Genesis. His singles, sometimes dealing with lost love, ranged from the drum-heavy "In the Air Tonight", dance pop of "Sussudio", piano-driven "Against All Odds", to the political statements of "Another Day in Paradise".
Collins's professional music career began as a drummer, originally in a band called The Real Thing with Andrea Bertorelli, who later became his first wife. Collins played drums and shared lead vocals (with Brian Chatton) in Flaming Youth which recorded one album, (Ark II). In 1970, he took over drums for Genesis, which had already recorded two albums. In Genesis, Collins originally supplied backing vocals for front man Peter Gabriel, singing lead on only two songs: "For Absent Friends" from 1971's Nursery Cryme album and "More Fool Me" from Selling England by the Pound, which was released in 1973. Following Gabriel's departure in 1975, Collins became the group's lead singer.
HOME BOYS HOME
Ah, well who wouldn't be a sailor lad, a sailin' on the
main
To gain the good will of his Captain's good name
He came ashore, one evening from the sea
And that was beginning of me own true love and me
Chorus:
And it's home boys, home
Home I'd like to be, home for awhile
In me own country, where the oak and the ash and the
bonny rowan tree
Are all a growin' greener, in the North Country
I asked her for a candle for to light me way to bed
Likewise for a handkerchief to tie around me head
She tended to me needs, like a young maid ought to do
Then I says to her, why don't you jump in with me too
Chorus
She jump into bed and makin' no alarm,
Thinking a young sailor lad could do to her no harm
I hugged her; I kissed her, the whole night long
Till she wished the short night had been seven years
long
Chorus
Early next morning the sailor lad arose
And into Mary's apron, threw a handful of gold
Sayin' "Take this, my dear. For the damage that I've
done,
For tonight I fear I've left you with a daughter or a
son."
Chorus
And if it be a girl child, send her out to nurse
With gold in her pocket and with silver in her purse
And if it be a boy child, he'll wear the jacket blue
And go climbing up the riggin', like his daddy used to
do
Chorus
So come all of you fair maidens, a warning take be me
Never let a sailor lad an inch above your knee
I trusted one and he beguiled me
He left me with a pair of twins to dandle on me knee
Chorus
