"One Step" was the Austrian entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1997, performed in German almost exclusively (despite the English of the title) by Bettina Soriat.
The song was performed fourth on the night, following Norway's Tor Endresen with "San Francisco" and preceding Ireland's Marc Roberts with "Mysterious Woman". At the close of voting, it had received 12 points, placing 21st in a field of 25.
The song is an upbeat number, with Soriat criticising her lover for taking her for granted. The lyrics even contain a reference to Star Trek, with the line "sex with you passes by as fast as Starship Enterprise".
Due to poor performances, Austria was not permitted to take part in the 1998 Contest, but returned to the fold at the 1999 contest. Thus, the song was succeeded at that Contest by Bobbie Singer performing "Reflection".

The song that provides the opening salvo to Madness' 1979 debut album of the same name. Who can forget the first time they heard the immortal, booming words of Chas Smash commanding "Don't watch that, watch this!"? The song is still the opener for nearly every live show they play; a veritable, instantly unifying call to arms for casual and die-hard fans alike. The video finds the boys at North London's Hope & Anchor pub, where they played many of their early gigs. One Step Beyond S02E03 Brainwave P- 1/2
It seems to me you shut out
anything that might confuse
the warped and twisted visions
of the narrow little paths you choose
we're all potential converts in your eyes
I think instead you need to take one step beyond
cause right now you're just standing on my head
I swore a million times I'd never play this game with you
so don't act all offended when I tell you what I think of you
you mouth the party line you learned from all your newfound friends
you tell me that you're feet are on the ground but now you're standing on my head
another gang of whitebred privelaged kids is all I see
I wonder if you really think that all your rules spell anarchy
react and call it revolution you're stuck in the first step
so don't pretend to be my friend
