In this video I will show you a well kept secret about how to get a lot of older game consoles to have the best picture quality. It's the miracle that is SCART and its full RGB signal, and how you can convert it to HDMI in an upscaled 720p or even full 1080p image and make it look astonishingly beautiful. Seriously, it blows my mind how good this looks.
As an added bonus feature, it allows you to convert a PAL video signal to an NTSC one or vice versa.
If you use a device like the Hauppauge HD PVR 2, it will also allow you to easily capture game footage with crystal clear quality.
There are three scart types that should be addressed in the description so that some players aren't disappointed.
1. A scart adaptor - this is not scart - It is simply AV cables in an RCA to scart connection adaptor.
2. A regular scart lead. This is the same as above but with an actual (7 pin) scart connection. Quality wise, it's still just an AV cable.
3. RGB Scart - this is the true high quality scart. Usually 21 pin.
This will work best with the following consoles:
Atari Jaguar
Atari Jaguar CD
Nintendo Super Nintendo (Super Famicom) [original model only]
Sega Master System
Sega Genesis (Mega Drive)
Sega CD (Mega CD)
Sega 32X
Sega Saturn
Sony Playstation (1)
SNK Neo Geo AES
SNK Neo Geo CD
This will not work with anything older such as the Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 7800, Nintendo Entertainment System, Colecovision, Famicom etcetera.

I cover a pretty inexpensive SCART to HDMI converter that I purchased (link to buy down below) to test how much better direct RGB looks compared to Composite & S-Video. I compare game footage from Sega Master System, Super Nintendo and Sega Saturn so you can evaluate yourselves.
Another thing I forgot to mention, and test for this video, is the headphone audio-out on this converter. It may resolve the audio differences I note in the video, but I'm not sure.

I cover a pretty inexpensive SCART to HDMI converter that I purchased (link to buy down below) to test how much better direct RGB looks compared to Composite & S-Video. I compare game footage from Sega Master System, Super Nintendo and Sega Saturn so you can evaluate yourselves.

SCART (from Syndicat des Constructeurs d'Appareils Radiorécepteurs et Téléviseurs, Radio and Television Receiver Manufacturers' Association) is a French-originated standard and associated 21-pin connector for connecting audio-visual (AV) equipment together. Comparing my RGB 1080p SCART TO HDMI scaler against playing on a Nintendo Wii via Component cable. This is a GameCube test using Mario Kart Double Dash. I've always used my Nintendo Wii with Component cables to run my GameCube games as it was the best way to play them and have them look half decent. That was until I picked up my scaler of course! It does a fantastic job of upscaling GC games using an RGB cable. I think the results speak for themselves. I originally wanted to use Super Smash Bros Melee but my Wii refuses to load the disc properly for some reason. Watch this in full screen HD if possible! I wanted to find a cost-effective solution to hook up some of my old consoles to my HDTVs. I cover a pretty inexpensive SCART to HDMI converter that I purchased (link to buy down below) to test how much better direct RGB looks compared to Composite & S-Video. I compare game footage from Sega Master System, Super Nintendo and Sega Saturn so you can evaluate yourselves.
Another thing I forgot to mention, and test for this video, is the headphone audio-out on this converter. It may resolve the audio differences I note in the video, but I'm not sure.
This article goes WAY more in depth and provides some actual technical knowledge on a vast array of these converters. Mine ranked quite low, so the other options may even turn out better results! Read this before you buy:

This is a GameCube test using Mario Kart Double Dash. I've always used my Nintendo Wii with Component cables to run my GameCube games as it was the best way to play them and have them look half decent. That was until I picked up my scaler of course! It does a fantastic job of upscaling GC games using an RGB cable. I think the results speak for themselves.
I originally wanted to use Super Smash Bros Melee but my Wii refuses to load the disc properly for some reason.
I highly recommend using an RGB SCART TO HDMI scaler if you wish to get excellent video quality from your retro consoles.
The scaler itself is the CVID BG 460.

Скарт это европейский стандарт для подключения разнообразных мультимедийных устройств, таких как телевизоры, видеомагнитофоны, DVD-проигрыватели и многие другие устройства. Он был разработан во Франции в 1987году.До появления стандарта Скарт применяли большое количество различных разъёмов, что затрудняло соединение устройств, произведённых разными фирмами. Различия имелись как в физическом исполнении разъёмов, так и в спецификациях сигналов.Скарт унифицирует соединения различных устройств, он объединяет все необходимые сигналы в одном многополюсном штекере.Стандарт не даёт возможности подключить штекер неправильно. Небольшим ограничением является то, что нужно приложить физическую силу для соединения или разъединения гнезда и штекера.Сегодня каждый произведенный для Европы теле - или видеоаппарат оснащён как минимум одним скартомом.

Showcasing various Sega Dreamcast games while using my SCART to HDMI adapter via RGB.
This new scaler let's you use SCART AV/SCART RGB cables, lets you switch between 1080p and 720p and finally lets you switch between 50hz/60hz which I have yet to test.
I may need to do some tweaking with the colour and brightness settings on my Elgato but the difference over the previous scaler is already huge (and this one was cheaper too!).
I used an Elgato Game Capture HD using the HDMI full 1080p cature profile to capture this footage.
The scaler itself is the CVID BG 460.

Throughout the years, Nintendo has offered one if not several ways to connect its gaming consoles to TVs. Nintendo gamers (often children who didn't know the difference between these connections) had to choose the method of connection that matched the signal input available on their TV. Since some video signals provide a sharper picture than others, Nintendo gamers and collectors will want to choose the best connection for their gaming setup.
In this follow-up video to the original 3-part series, I address some questions that have been posed to me as a result of both this "Nintendo Connected" series of videos and my "Fixing a Flaw with the Nintendo Entertainment System" video:
1. How much better of a video signal does s-video provide over composite?
2. Why don't you use the superior RGB SCART to HDMI connection on a flat screen TV?
