The Wynyard Quarter (historically also known as the Western Reclamation, Wynyard Point, Wynyard Wharf or Tank Farm) is a reclaimed piece of land on the Waitemata Harbour at the western edge of the Auckland waterfront, New Zealand.
It is located to the north of Freemans Bay and to the west of the Viaduct Basin. As of 2012, a good part of the area is still covered by petrol and liquid chemical storage facilities of Ports of Auckland Ltd (POAL) and various other companies, that gave the area its now slowly disappearing "Tank Farm" moniker. However, major changes are underway, with the area intended to be redeveloped into a mixed-use residential-commercial area, with a major park to run along the northern headland and up to the point. As one of the first changes, the eastern section of the Quarter, as well as one of the main west-east roads running across it, were revitalised with new office and entertainment/restaurant areas, with several major projects finishing in time for the Rugby World Cup 2011 tournament.

Auckland's waterfront is going through one of the largest urban regenerations in New Zealand, evolving form an industrial port area that was closed off to the public to a place where people can live and visit, be entertained and do business. In 2011 the first stage of Wynyard Quarter redevelopment opened providing new places and spaces right next to the water's edge. But that is just the first stage, within the next few years the waterfront will continue to develop with new places to live and work, a 5-star hotel and new streets and parks. Host Jeremy Redmore visits one of Auckland's most vibrant and ever changing destinations, Wynyard Quarter. There's even a little musical treat from Jeremy for you. The Wynyard Quarter is a reclaimed piece of land on the Waitemata Harbour at the western edge of the Auckland waterfront, New Zealand. It is located to the north of Freemans Bay and to the west of the Viaduct Basin.
Wynyard Quarter is becoming one of New Zealand’s most exciting and diverse places. Bordered on three sides by the sparkling Waitemata Harbour, the 37 hectare area has been home to the hard-working marine and fishing industries for decades. Recently, alongside the ongoing marine activity, some exciting developments have taken place. This once industrial and port area, closed off to public access for many years, is now being opened up. The first stage of the Wynyard Quarter revitalization opened in 2011 - and Aucklanders haven’t looked back since. With a variety of restaurants, cafes and a healthy calendar of events, this area has quickly established itself as a popular destination for both locals and visitors. Auckland Theatre Company and Park Hyatt will be joining the neighbourhood an...
Wynyard Crossing, bridge in Wynyard Quarter, Auckland The information below is a copy from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia "Wynyard Crossing is a new double bascule walking / cycling bridge built in 2011 in Auckland, New Zealand. It connects the redeveloped Wynyard Quarter with Te Wero Island and the existing Viaduct Harbour entertainment district, and thereby, with the wider Auckland waterfront. The 100m long bridge is able to lift to allow watercraft passage into the Viaduct Harbour area, with a 36m wide channel created by lifting two 22m movable sections.Even closed and at high tide, the bridge will still allow a 3m clearance, meaning smaller boats do not require the spans to be raised.Opening and closing the bridge will take 90, respectively 60 seconds, controlled by an on-site oper...
