Maintenance work on two bridges in the Catlins has hit road bumps, with one bridge potentially costing half a million dollars to repair. Work on the Katea Rd bridge near Owaka resumed this week after being delayed by the discovery concrete in the abutments and wing walls of the bridge was of poor quality. Suspicious behaviour and a rise in thefts of wool bales in South Otago has police on the lookout. Detective Kate Bartlett, of Balclutha, said seven bales were stolen from a woolshed near Owaka between April 11 and 12 ... There is nothing unusual about the degree of staff movement at the Central Otago District Council, its chief executive says. The council's water services manager, Russell Bond, has resigned and takes up the role of infrastructure strategy manager with the Clutha District Council next month.
