In an exclusive interview with TODAY’s Matt Lauer, actor Charlie Sheen says, “I’m here to admit that I am in fact HIV positive.” He says that reports that he has threatened the health of others “couldn’t be farther than the truth.” He says he first found out about his status “about four years ago” and initially thought he had a brain tumor. He says that he has paid people who threatened to reveal his HIV status, “They were deep in my inner circle,” he says, and adds, “we’re talking about shakedowns.” In terms of paying people now, he says, “I think I release myself from this prison today.” He admits that he has had unprotected sex since his diagnosis, but that the two people involved were forewarned, and that he has told all his sexual partners about his status.

Charlie Sheen appeared on Today early Tuesday morning, revealing that he is in fact HIV positive. "I have to put a stop to this barrage of attacks and sub-truths and very harmful and mercurial stories that are about me that threaten the health of so many others," he said during a sit-down interview. "[It] couldn't be farther from the truth." Sheen, who also revealed that he was first diagnosed roughly four years ago, called HIV a "a hard three letters to absorb" and considered the diagnosis a "turning point" in his life. Sheen also revealed that people have apparently tried to extort him over the diagnosis, though he maintains that anyone who engaged in unprotected sex with him were fully aware of his status. "I think that I release myself from this prison today," Sheen told Matt Lauer. "Hopefully, with what we're doing today, others may come forward and say 'Thanks, Charlie, for kicking the door open.'"
Sources are now telling TMZ that Charlie Sheen has "known for more than 2 years" that he was HIV positive, but after a series of treatments and blood tests, the HIV was rendered "undetectable."

Charlie Sheen is reportedly set to reveal his HIV status on Tuesday's Today show, according to TMZ. Sources tell reporters that Sheen is expected to reveal that he's HIV positive during a sit-down interview with Matt Lauer. In a press release announcing the interview, NBC touted Sheen's appearance as containing a "revealing personal announcement."
Sheen has neither confirmed or denied these claims, though he's clearly set to make some sort of announcement on Tuesday. TMZ's report comes just hours after tabloids (including the National Enquirer) started circulating a story with claims that Sheen has been keeping the diagnosis "secret for years." According to their predictably unnamed sources, Sheen has already started treatment. In addition to TMZ's reports, two other sources confirmed to E! News that Sheen would indeed be announcing that he's HIV positive during the interview with Lauer.
Though Charlie Sheen experienced a remarkable surge in popularity surrounding his role on the now-defunct CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men, the return to the spotlight came with its fair share of controversies centered exclusively on Sheen. The actor was eventually terminated from the series due to a lengthy and often public fallout with CBS and his Half Men co-stars. Ashton Kutcher was enlisted as Sheen's proverbial replacement, eventually even inheriting Sheen's status as the highest-paid actor on television.

Carlos Irwin Estevez (born September 3, 1965), better known by his stage name Charlie Sheen, is an American film and television actor. He is the youngest son of actor Martin Sheen.
His character roles in films have included Chris Taylor in the 1986 Vietnam War drama Platoon, Jake Kesey in the 1986 film The Wraith, and Bud Fox in the 1987 film Wall Street. His career has also included more comedic films such as Major League, the Hot Shots! films, and Scary Movie 3 and Scary Movie 4. On television, Sheen is known for his roles on two sitcoms: as Charlie Crawford on Spin City and as Charlie Harper on Two and a Half Men. In 2010, Sheen was the highest paid actor on television, earning US$1.8 million per episode of Two and a Half Men.
Sheen's personal life has also made headlines, including reports about alcohol and drug abuse and marital problems as well as allegations of domestic violence. He was fired from his role on Two and a Half Men by CBS and Warner Bros. on March 7, 2011. Sheen subsequently announced a nationwide tour.

Jennifer Ann "Jenny" McCarthy (born November 1, 1972) is an American model, comedian, actress, author, activist, and game show host. She began her career in 1993 as a nude model for Playboy magazine and was later named their Playmate of the Year. McCarthy then parlayed her Playboy fame into a successful television and film acting career. Most recently, she has written books about parenting, and has become an activist promoting the claims that vaccines cause autism and that chelation therapy helps cure it—both claims are considered false by the medical community.
McCarthy was born in Evergreen Park, Illinois to a middle-class Catholic family of Polish and Irish descent. She lived in the West Elsdon neighborhood of Chicago. She is the second of four daughters; her sisters are named Lynette, Joanne and Amy. Her cousin is Academy Award-nominated actress Melissa McCarthy of Bridesmaids and Mike and Molly. He also says that the odds of Sheen having spread the virus are low. Sheen says he takes four pills a day, and while he maintains is not taking mood-altering drugs, he does admit he’s still drinking.

Charlie Sheen appeared on Today early Tuesday morning, revealing that he is in fact HIV positive. "I have to put a stop to this barrage of attacks and sub-truths and very harmful and mercurial stories that are about me that threaten the health of so many others," he said during a sit-down interview. "[It] couldn't be farther from the truth." Sheen, who also revealed that he was first diagnosed roughly four years ago, called HIV a "a hard three letters to absorb" and considered the diagnosis a "turning point" in his life. Sheen also revealed that people have apparently tried to extort him over the diagnosis, though he maintains that anyone who engaged in unprotected sex with him were fully aware of his status. "I think that I release myself from this prison today," Sheen told Matt Lauer. "Hopefully, with what we're doing today, others may come forward and say 'Thanks, Charlie, for kicking the door open.'"
Sources are now telling TMZ that Charlie Sheen has "known for more than 2 years" that he was HIV positive, but after a series of treatments and blood tests, the HIV was rendered "undetectable."

Charlie Sheen is reportedly set to reveal his HIV status on Tuesday's Today show, according to TMZ. Sources tell reporters that Sheen is expected to reveal that he's HIV positive during a sit-down interview with Matt Lauer. In a press release announcing the interview, NBC touted Sheen's appearance as containing a "revealing personal announcement."
Sheen has neither confirmed or denied these claims, though he's clearly set to make some sort of announcement on Tuesday. TMZ's report comes just hours after tabloids (including the National Enquirer) started circulating a story with claims that Sheen has been keeping the diagnosis "secret for years." According to their predictably unnamed sources, Sheen has already started treatment. In addition to TMZ's reports, two other sources confirmed to E! News that Sheen would indeed be announcing that he's HIV positive during the interview with Lauer.
Though Charlie Sheen experienced a remarkable surge in popularity surrounding his role on the now-defunct CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men, the return to the spotlight came with its fair share of controversies centered exclusively on Sheen. The actor was eventually terminated from the series due to a lengthy and often public fallout with CBS and his Half Men co-stars. MIAMI — The U.S. has released nine more prisoners from its base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and sent them to Saudi Arabia for resettlement, officials said Saturday. The move announced in a Pentagon statement is part of an effort by President Barack Obama's administration to release detainees considered low-risk while seeking to transfer the remainder to the U.S ... and some have called for new restrictions on future releases and transfers ... ....
