Tribute to Gloria Swanson - "Come To Me" by The High Hatters,1931
The High Hatters conducted by Leonard Joy, Vocal refrain by Chick Bullock - Come To Me (DeSylva --Brown-Henderson) Fox Trot from the United Artists picture "Indiscreet", Victor 1931 (USA) NOTE: Gloria SWANSON (née Gloria Svensson in 1899, Chicago IL, d. 1983 in NYC). Her father was a soldier and he was Swedish, her mother Adelajda Klanowska was Polish. Although born in Chicago because of her father's attachment to the Army, they moved frequently and Gloria went to public schools in Chicago; Key West, Florida; and San Juan, Puerto Rico. It was not her intention to enter show business, but on a whim one of her aunts took her to a small film company in Chicago and Swanson was asked to come back to work as an extra. After a few months as an extra working with among others, Charlie Chaplin, and making $13.50 a week, she left school to work full time at the studio. Soon, her parents separated and she and her mother moved to California. Her film debut was in The Fable of Elvira and Farina and the Meal Ticket (1915). From the following year on, she had leading roles in pictures for Keystone, then a year with Triangle, and, in 1919, a contract with Cecil B. DeMille. DeMille transformed her from a typical Mack Sennett comedienne into a lively, provocative, even predatory, star. She collected husbands (eg, the indigent Henri de la Falaise) and lovers (eg, Joseph P. Kennedy, father of former President John F. Kennedy). Kennedy produced her Queen Kelly (1929), directed by Erich von ...

Turcot Yard Snow Dump - Urban Ecological Disaster?
Turcot Yard Snow Dump - Urban Ecological Disaster?
Montreal's Turcot Yards were used as a snow dump for snow which fell in almost unprecedented amounts and almost rivaling previous records for Montreal, a situation the ciy and province were neither prepared for. As the sun bakes and dries the surface of the snow piles, exposing their inner contents, prevailing winds will carry toxic-laden dust onto neighboring communities, dust containing everything imaginable from the streets and homes of Montreal. During one of the worst storms of the year, February 1, 2008, I was hired to shoot a drama. Crew and equipment in place the Director decided to go for it despite the horrid storm. I witnessed with my own eyes plows scooping snowbanks laden with urban garbage-for-pickup into dump-trucks destined for local snow-dumps. Domestic garbage straight into the snow dump. Some of this garbage was being hoisted from a dumpster to the sidewalk and into the snow banks being chomped-up by the tractors right in front of a medical clinic, can you imagine what was in that garbage? That is what I call toxic, not to mention all the petroleum-based chemicals which are derived from the roads and highways of the region. The most ridiculous item I saw at the Turcot Yard Snow Dump was a sofa. Makes you think. Speak out now! Visit www.VoicefDorval.com for more information and reportage about the dump ana Falaise St Jacques.

Olivier Messiaen: Le Traquet rieur (1956-58)
One of the last pieces in Messiaen's massive, seven-volume cycle for piano, Catalogue d'oiseaux. This piece features the black wheatear (traquet rieur). In Messiaen's own words: "Mois de Mai. Yvonne Loriod, piano.

Toxic winds will shower down-wind communities. Montreal's largest snow dump is laden with chemicals. As the piles of snow melt and bake in the sun the winds work on the carrying aloft the resultant dust laced with toxic chemicals. Long-term health may be threatened. Hard to prove though. LARROQUE -TARN 18.aout.2011.avi

(EN) The hill of Crussol has been occupied since Roman times. Initially, it was the site of a temple, which was subsequently extended with a fortified building to the south in the course of the 5th century, but was abandoned in later centuries for the present site. The first fort, probably built in the 10th century, was made of wood and was destroyed in a fire. It was rebuilt in stone in the 12th century, by a lord named Gerald Basset, in order to control the existing transportation route along the Rhône River. At the end of the 15th century, the Crussols were linked by marriage to the Uzès. The castle was abandoned for the more comfortable Château d'Uzès. During the Religious Wars, the castle was taken and set afire on several occasions by various warlords. It was finally sacked in the 17th century. On September 3, 1855, a mine explosion in the quarry under the castle destroyed part of the building. Lightning further destroyed part of the keep in 1952. The site was classified as an official historical monument of France (French: monument historique) in 1927. The commune of Guilherand-Granges bought the ruins in 1984, even though the site is technically within the boundaries of the commune of Saint-Péray. The inter-commune syndicate of these two communes and Soyons are jointly engaged in the restoration of the castle.
