Ep. 59: Welcome to the Sharing Economy (with Matthew Feeney)
Matthew Feeney joins us for a discussion on how the so-called "sharing economy" undermines the regulatory establishment and makes people's lives better.
This week we're talking about Uber, Airbnb, and other business models that are based on "sharing" human and physical resources, often using information technology to facilitate these transactions. In other words, the sharing economy.
How do these new business models work? Are they even all that new?
Are consumer feedback systems effectively replacing the quality-control mechanisms that are ostensibly the reason for government regulation in these markets? Asked another way, how safe are these services without government licensing and regulatory oversight?
What effect have these new business models had on traditionally regulated services like taxicabs and hotels?
Why do libertarians seem to like the sharing economy so much?

The Drug Enforcement Agency has a secret unit that has been funneling information from intelligence intercepts, wiretaps, and a massive database of phone records. The unit has been passing this data to law enforcement agencies across the nation and assists in launching criminal investigations against American citizens. Matthew Feeney, assistant editor for Reason 24/7, joins us with more on the findings and how this affects people's Fourth Amendment rights.

DEA agents use NSA intercepts to investigate Americans
The Drug Enforcement Agency has a secret unit that has been funneling information from intelligence intercepts, wiretaps, and a massive database of phone records. The unit has been passing this data to law enforcement agencies across the nation and assists in launching criminal investigations against American citizens. Matthew Feeney, assistant editor for Reason 24/7, joins us with more on the findings and how this affects people's Fourth Amendment rights.

Deconstructing the Surveillance State (with Julian Sanchez)
Julian Sanchez joins Trevor Burrus and Matthew Feeney for a discussion on privacy, the NSA, and domestic surveillance. If the government's been spying on us for decades, what's new now? Why is bulk data collection so particularly nefarious? What is metadata anyway, and what does the government do with it? Does the government actually catch terrorists through mass surveillance? Why do people treat terrorism differently from other violent crimes? The defenders of surveillance say that "if you haven't done anything wrong, you have nothing to be afraid of" —does this justification hold water?
Julian Sanchez is a senior fellow at the Cato Institute, where he studies issues at the busy intersection of technology, privacy, and civil liberties, with a particular focus on national security and intelligence surveillance.

December's State Policy Hangout: Uber, Lyft, and Ridesharing Regulation
Uber, Lyft, and other ridesharing services have often faced strong opposition from local governments and competitive interests, such as city taxi authorities. While most major cities have slowly allowed these services to operate, others have pursued more aggressive action, ranging from price floors on fares to steep fines and even threats of arrest. With strong emotions on both sides of the debate, what does the future of regulation look like for ridesharing services in the states? Are there current or proposed regulations that can bridge the gap between entrenched interest and entrepreneurship? Is ridesharing a zero sum game for consumers? Join us for a discussion of these and related issues at this month’s State Policy Hangout.
Please join us Thursday, December 4th, at 3 PM for a live online discussion featuring:
John Kartch, Director of Communications, Americans for Tax Reform
Jacob Huebert, Senior Attorney at the Liberty Justice Center, Illinois Policy Institute
Matthew Feeney, Policy Analyst, Cato Institute
Questions? Email Rebecca Bernbach at externalaffairs@cato.org. For more state research and commentary, please visit cato.org.

September 23/24, 2015 - The Delay, Illuminati Cards, the Fall at Midnight & Tomorrowland
In this video, I will look more closely at the delay of the Bridegroom that has now been astronomically confirmed by a retired Department of Defense inside man named Michael. I then examine 2 Illuminati cards, one of which points to an asteroid hitting the earth on September 24th. I then examine the midnight cry of the Bridegroom mentioned in Matthew 25, and look at how that relates to the start of the FALL on September 23rd. I then show how the new movie preview of "Tomorrowland" is showing a rapture-like event amidst chaos and the preview shows the date of 9/23. I then re-examine how Tomorrowland is just like Tomorrowworld, a demonic festival that starts on September 25, 2015, and shows the key to the Abyss, which relates to CERN being a part of the opening of the Abyss. Finally, I read a prophecy given by a South African lady on September 24, 2004, which I believe is meant to be a prophecy for the Bride of Christ around the world, pointing us to September 24, 2015.
Please read and download my free book, "The Rapture Puzzle: Putting the Scriptural Pieces together - Day of Atonement 2015 (September 23/24, 2015) Judgment Day"
