A cyst is a closed sac, having a distinct membrane and division compared to the nearby tissue. It may contain air, fluids, or semi-solid material. A collection of pus is called an abscess, not a cyst. Once formed, a cyst could go away on its own or may have to be removed through surgery.
Despite being described in 1938 as the microscopic appearance of cysts in the pancreas,cystic fibrosis is an example of a genetic disorder whose name is related to fibrosis of the cystic duct and does not involve actual cysts.
Most cysts in the body are benign (dysfunctional) tumors, the result of plugged ducts or other natural body outlets for secretions. However sometimes these masses are considered neoplasm:
Treatment ranges from simple enucleation of the cyst to curettage to resection. There are cysts, e.g. buccal bifurcation cyst with self-resolation nature, in which close observation only can be employed unless the cyst is infected and symptomatic.
A pseudocyst is collection without a distinct membrane.

Hello everyone! A patient came in with two pilar cysts on her scalp. Pilar cysts are usually benign but they are bumpy and can be embarrassing. As you can see, its a fairly simple procedure to remove these cysts and a common procedure for dermatologists. Like I said, pilar cysts are usually benign, but if you do find any bumps on your scalp you should get them evaluated by a dermatologist or other physician! Sebaceous cysts are not dangerous and can usually be ignored. Placing a warm moist cloth (compress) over the area may help the cyst drain and heal.
If you have a small inflamed cyst, your doctor may inject it with a steroid medicine that reduces swelling.
If the cyst becomes swollen, tender, or large, your doctor may drain it or perform surgery to remove it.

Hello everyone!
A patient came in with two pilar cysts on her scalp. Pilar cysts are usually benign but they are bumpy and can be embarrassing. As you can see, its a fairly simple procedure to remove these cysts and a common procedure for dermatologists.
Like I said, pilar cysts are usually benign, but if you do find any bumps on your scalp you should get them evaluated by a dermatologist or other physician!
