This is Bree, a young to middle-aged chihuahua who was at the pound and scheduled to be euthanized due to a large tumor on her abdomen. Luckily she was brought to Vet Ranch where Dr. Matt found out it was NOT a tumor, but actually a hernia in her abdominal muscles that allowed her intestines to squeeze out of her abdomen. Her ENTIRE treatment was funded by our RIDICULOUSLY AWESOME viewers. She would have definitely been euthanized if not for you. THANK YOU for making this channel a reality.

This dog had a multi lobular osteochondrosarcoma of the skull. A CT scan was done to assess the tumour penetration and required surgical margins. Surgical excision was performed exposing the underlying brain. Southpaws (Melbourne, Australia) offer specialist veterinary services by referral - for surgery - neuro, orthopaedic (including TPLO, TTA and extra capsular), soft tissue, minimally invasive and surgical oncology. We often get presented with dogs especially large breed ones (e.g. German Shepherds, Labradors, Golden Retrievers) with sudden onset of lethargy and abdominal swelling. Examination reveals they either have a severely enlarged spleen or a ruptured one. The critical ones have lots a lot of blood and are anemic and require an immediate blood transfusion. The ones with better prognosis are the ones we caught early via palpation & ultrasound and these usually haven't bled. This video illustrates the surgical approach to a splenectomy. We often get presented with dogs especially large breed ones (e.g. German Shepherds, Labradors, Golden Retrievers) with sudden onset of lethargy and abdominal swelling. Examination reveals they either have a severely enlarged spleen or a ruptured one. The critical ones have lots a lot of blood and are anemic and require an immediate blood transfusion. The ones with better prognosis are the ones we caught early via palpation & ultrasound and these usually haven't bled. This video illustrates the surgical approach to a splenectomy. The most crucial part of this surgery is ensuring you ligate all the vessels to avoid any bleeding. My colleague also uses a cauterizing instrument to make sure no more blood loss occurs.

With this video I am trying to get information out to dog owners who are faced with a pet with a "torn ACL" and the resulting lameness or limp. As I say in the video - I do not endorse the procedure. Nor am I endorsing this particular vet.
I did have the procedure done on my dog and so far so good. In the months and years to come I will have a better view of how successful the procedure has been and if it was worth the money. All pet surgeries seem expensive these days.
Again, the video is informational. If you Google "TPLO" you will find a great number of sites with information and opinions about this procedure. As in all medical situations (people and pets) information is the key to making informed and appropriate decisions.

A white Chicago police officer who fatally shot a black teenager last December is suing his family for $10m (£6.9m), claiming emotional distress. Robert Rialmo shot 19-year-old student Quintonio LeGrier six times, killing the boy's neighbour in the process.
