PlayStation (Japanese: プレイステーション, Hepburn: Pureisutēshon, officially abbreviated PS) is a series of video game consoles created and developed by Sony Computer Entertainment. The brand was first introduced on December 3, 1994 in Japan with the launch of the original PlayStation console. It now consists of four home consoles, as well as a media center, an online service, a line of controllers, two handhelds and a phone, as well as multiple magazines.
The original console in the series, the PlayStation, was the first video game console to ship 100 million units, 9 years and 6 months after its initial launch. Its successor, the PlayStation 2, was released in 2000. The PlayStation 2 is the best-selling home console to date, having reached over 155 million units sold as of December 28, 2012. Sony's next console, the PlayStation 3, was released in 2006 and has sold over 80 million consoles worldwide as of November 2013. Sony's latest console, the PlayStation 4, was released in 2013, selling 1 million consoles in its first 24 hours on sale, becoming the fastest selling console in history.
Experience is the knowledge or mastery of an event or subject gained through involvement in or exposure to it. Terms in philosophy, such as "empirical knowledge" or "a posteriori knowledge," are used to refer to knowledge based on experience. A person with considerable experience in a specific field can gain a reputation as expert. The concept of experience generally refers to know-how or procedural knowledge, rather than propositional knowledge: on-the-job training rather than book-learning.
The interrogation of experience has a long tradition in continental philosophy. Experience plays an important role in the philosophy of Søren Kierkegaard. The German term Erfahrung, often translated into English as "experience", has a slightly different implication, connoting the coherency of life's experiences.
Certain religious traditions (such as types of Buddhism, Surat Shabd Yoga, mysticism and Pentecostalism) and educational paradigms with, for example, the conditioning of military recruit-training (also known as "boot camps"), stress the experiential nature of human epistemology. This stands in contrast to alternatives: traditions of dogma, logic or reasoning. Participants in activities such as tourism, extreme sports and recreational drug-use also tend to stress the importance of experience.
PlayStation Experience is an annual event for the video game industry, presented by Sony Computer Entertainment. It is used to reveal and advertise PlayStation games and game-related merchandise. The event is open to the public, and showcases various panels and many unreleased games, with playable demos.
The first PlayStation Experience event was held at Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas, Nevada from December 6–7, 2014, marking the 20th anniversary of the PlayStation.
The second PlayStation Experience event was held at Moscone West in San Francisco, California from December 5–6, 2015.
PlayStation VR, previously known by the codename Project Morpheus, is an upcoming virtual reality head-mounted display produced by Sony Computer Entertainment. It is designed to be fully functional with the PlayStation 4 video game system. It is currently a prototype and has no confirmed release date, although Sony has scheduled its launch for the first half of 2016.
The prototype revealed at GDC'15 included an OLED 1920x1080 pixel display (providing 960x1080 px resolution per eye) with an RGB subpixel matrix, and is capable of displaying content at 120fps. It features a FOV of 100°, 6DOF head-tracking, stereoscopic 3D, and unwarped output to a TV, either for others to view what the headset wearer sees, or a separate display to compete against the headset user using a standard PS4 controller.
Sony's interest in head-mounted technology dates back to the 1990s. Its first commercial unit, the Glasstron, was released in 1997. One application of this technology was in the game MechWarrior 2, which permitted users of the Glasstron or Virtual I/O's iGlasses to adopt a visual perspective from inside the cockpit of the craft, using their own eyes as visual and seeing the battlefield through their craft's own cockpit.

90 second exhibition film to announce Sony PlayStation VR at the Paris Game Show 2015. I was hired to conceive and direct a showcase for the Morpheus project - a collection of amazing, immersive experiences that introduce the imaginative possibilities of VR - which had a matter of days to be completed. My aim was to capture the concept of crossing a threshold into an exciting new world, and the emotion and presence that players feel when placed inside the game. Collaborating closely with 422, we connected the demo footage (Rigs, Valkyrie, London Heist, The Walk, BattleZone, Megaton Rainfall, Robinson the Journey, Heavensward Final Fantasy XIV, Rush of Blood) with live action CGVFX bridging sequences to generate a seamless, immersive 360 experience for the audience. To help promote PlayStation's 'Movies on Demand' service, we tried to imagine what the ultimate movie experience would be like? To do this, we created a series of high impact promos using 'immersive imaging'. A technique which uses 3d projection mapping as it's starting point, but gives the viewer a supercharged experience. In the past, projection mapping has worked from a single static view and is therefore quite limited. So by attaching Move controllers to the camera we were able to track this and alter projections in realtime. The project also combined real life props, pyrotechnics and ninja puppeteers so we were able to blur the boundaries between the virtual and real. Each film was carefully choreographed and timed to the animation sequence so that we could capture the films - all ...
