Both games serve as updated versions of classic arcade games ripped straight from the ’80s with varying amounts of change in each. With Frogger, Konami mostly stuck to keeping the game as close to the original as possible, giving players the same tried and true game play featuring a traffic dodging frog. By adding leaderboards, achievements, and an HD upgrade that can be switched on or off for those in favor of that retro style, it did what it could to justify its re-release back in the early days of the Xbox Live Arcade service.
Galaga Legions DX on the other hand, followed in the footsteps of Pac-Man Championship Edition DX by taking elements of the nostalgic game play elements that are synonymous with the popular arcade game, and flipping them on their head in a variety of ways. Between the insane neon visuals, the huge amounts of enemy hordes, and the frantic pace of this modern remake, and we were left with a satisfying take on an old classic.
Frogger and Galaga Legions DX join Altered Beast, The Cave, Comix Zone, Double Dragon: Neon, and Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime as the sixth and seventh games released this week as part of the growing list of backwards compatible games. All of these titles can be downloaded now by anyone who owned the games back on their 360. Those who never got around to it can purchase these games and more through the Xbox Games Store.
