New Nationalism was Theodore Roosevelt's Progressive political philosophy during the 1912 election.
Roosevelt made the case for what he called the New Nationalism in a speech in Osawatomie, Kansas, on September 1, 1910. The central issue he argued was government protection of human welfare and property rights, but he also argued that human welfare was more important than property rights. He insisted that only a powerful federal government could regulate the economy and guarantee social justice, and that a President can only succeed in making his economic agenda successful if he makes the protection of human welfare his highest priority. Roosevelt believed that the concentration in industry was a natural part of the economy. He wanted executive agencies (not the courts) to regulate business. The federal government should be used to protect the laboring men, women and children from exploitation. In terms of policy, Roosevelt's platform included a broad range of social and political reforms advocated by progressives.
Theodore "TR" Roosevelt (/ˈroʊzəvɛlt/ ROH-zə-velt; October 27, 1858 – January 6, 1919) was an American statesman, author, explorer, soldier, naturalist, and reformer who served as the 26th President of the United States from 1901 to 1909. As a leader of the Republican Party during this time, he became a driving force for the Progressive Era in the United States in the early 20th century.
Born a sickly child with debilitating asthma, Roosevelt successfully overcame his health problems by embracing a strenuous lifestyle. He integrated his exuberant personality, vast range of interests, and world-famous achievements into a "cowboy" persona defined by robust masculinity. Home-schooled, he became a lifelong naturalist before attending Harvard College. His first of many books, The Naval War of 1812 (1882), established his reputation as both a learned historian and as a popular writer. Upon entering politics, he became the leader of the reform faction of Republicans in New York's state legislature. Following the deaths of his wife and mother, he took time to grieve by escaping to the wilderness of the American West and operating a cattle ranch in the Dakotas for a time, before returning East to run unsuccessfully for Mayor of New York City in 1886. He served as Assistant Secretary of the Navy under William McKinley, resigning after one year to serve with the Rough Riders, where he gained national fame for courage during the Spanish–American War. Returning a war hero, he was elected governor of New York in 1898. The state party leadership distrusted him, so they took the lead in moving him to the prestigious, but considered by them powerless, position of running for vice president as McKinley's running mate in the election of 1900. Roosevelt campaigned vigorously across the country, helping McKinley win re-election by a landslide on a platform of peace, prosperity, and conservatism.
Nationalism is a shared group feeling in the significance of a geographical and sometimes demographic region seeking independence for its culture and/or ethnicity that holds that group together. This can be expressed as a belief or political ideology that involves an individual identifying with or becoming attached to one's nation. Nationalism involves national identity, by contrast with the related concept of patriotism, which involves the social conditioning and personal behaviors that support a state's decisions and actions.
From a political or sociological perspective, there are two main perspectives on the origins and basis of nationalism. One is the primordialist perspective that describes nationalism as a reflection of the ancient and perceived evolutionary tendency of humans to organize into distinct groupings based on an affinity of birth. The other is the modernist perspective that describes nationalism as a recent phenomenon that requires the structural conditions of modern society in order to exist.

This is not the speech of a conservative republican. In this speech, Theodore Roosevelt lays out plenty of the progressive agenda, which we are stuck with today. The text of the speech can be found here: http://teachingamericanhistory.org/library/index.asp?document=501 Some highlights: Quote from Roosevelt: The Hepburn Act, and the amendment to the act in the shape in which it finally passed Congress at the last session, represent a long step in advance, and we must go yet further. Remember hearing modern progressives talk about how Obamacare didn't go far enough? Even in Roosevelt's day, progressives didn't thing big government was ever big enough, did not go far enough. They haven't changed in 100 years. Quote: Therefore, I believe in a graduated income tax on big fortunes, and...
Nationalism is playing a more prominent role in Russian politics today. Both the Kremlin and anti-Putin opposition figures increasingly employ nationalist arguments, and at times compete with one another in nationalist hyperbole. Russian involvement in eastern Ukraine provided a stark illustration, as both pro- and anti-Kremlin forces marshaled nationalist arguments to make their case. But if the strength of nationalism has the Kremlin to thank for at least some of its spread, will Moscow be able to control these forces into the future? Charles Clover, the FT's former Moscow bureau chief and author of the book Black Wind, White Snow: The Rise of Russia's New Nationalism , offers a perspective on the emergence of nationalism in modern Russian politics and its likely future evolution.

Angela Merkel is either stubborn about globalism or delusional. After the "refugee" disaster she is now unsettled about Europe returning to nationalism. Nationalism is a nightmare for all the liberal leaders working for a New World Order.
