Joan Ifland, PhD.
Dr. Joan Ifland, PhD is a food addiction professional who is active in both practice and research.
She is the lead author of the first scholarly description of processed food addiction in humans and the first definition of addictive versus non-addictive foods. She was invited by
Yale University and
Georgetown Medical School faculty to submit three chapters to textbooks. She has published seven academic articles.
Dr. Ifland earned her PhD in
2010 at
Union Institute in addictive nutrition. Her
MBA was awarded by
Stanford Business School and her BA in Economics by
Oberlin College.
She is the chair of the
Council on
Food Addiction at the
American College of Nutrition.
Dr. Ifland has maintained a food addiction practice since
1999. In 2010, she founded
Victory Meals, a gourmet prepared meal service designed to affordably and easily source unprocessed meals. She is the author of the popular book,
Sugars and Flours: How They Make Us
Crazy,
Sick and Fat which sold in the top 3% of
Amazon books for 12 years. She is currently under contract to edit a textbook on processed food addiction.
