Si-Fu 師傅 Steve Richards (Personal Chinese Name 冠虎) 利物浦俠家 Liverpool Hop-Gar (Traditional Chinese Martial Arts Association) LIVERPOOL HOP GAR - established in 1973 by Si-Fu Kenneth Liu Ying Wah 廖应华 student of Si-Fu Lau Jak Chu 刘泽柱, Disciple of Master Chan Tat Fu 陳達夫 - Hop Gar disciple of Wong Hop Loi 黄侠侣 and Kong Tow (Kong Lai Chuen) 江涛 - both disciples of Wong Hon Wing 黃漢榮 and Wong Yan Lum 王隱林 – Disciple to Sing Lung 升隆長老, lineage descendent of 阿达陀 'Ah-Dat-Tor Lama' and of Padmasambhava 波頭摩有 'The Lotus Born' and 師傅獅子吼 'The Lion's Roar Guru' - the 1st Patriarch of Tantric Buddhism in Tibet. Master Chan Tat Fu was also Tibetan White Crane and Lama Pai Disciple to Au Wing Ning 區永年 - Disciple to Ng Siu Chan 吳肇燦 and Ng Siu Chung 吳肇鍾 both Disciples to Wong Lum Hoi 黃林開 – Disciple to Sing Lung 升隆長老 - back through Ah Dat Tor and Padmasambhava. Master Chan Tat Fu called his teachings: 西藏合家獅子吼 'Sai-Jong Hap-Gar Si-Ji-Hao' or 'Tibetan Join Together Family, Lion's Roar' . Chan-Tat-Fu's teaching was his own synthesis of elements from all three branches of the Tibetan Lion's Roar Kung Fu tradition: Lama-Pai, Pak-Hok Pai and Hop Gar. In the UK we honor him as: 一門三法 'One Door, Three Schools'. In 2000, Si-Fu Liu Ying Wah retired from teaching and passed the UK Pai (Liverpool Hop Gar) over to his Senor Student: Si-Fu Steve Richards (冠虎). The UK Lion's Roar Pai, called 'Hop-Gar' by custom, has developed independently since 1973 and has continued to develop and integrate other martial arts styles and systems. down through the current generation of Si-Fu Richards approved instructors. The Lion's Roar tradition has always absorbed other systems of martial arts, since its inception in India and Tibet. Si-Fu Richards own contributions come through his study of Hung Gar 洪家 (Dai-Si-Hing of Master Jimmy Chan Wai's First family) Northern Fut Gar 北佛家 (Master Jimmy Chan Wai), Wing Chun 詠春 (Si-Fu Kenneth Liu Ying Wah, Si-Fu Franco Chun and Master Samuel Kwok) and a branch of the Southern Praying Mantis style of Kung Fu 江西竹林寺螳螂. He is a LIFE MEMBER of the Chin Woo Athletic Association of Hong Kong 精武體育會.
