Patient research work involving more than 5 thousand photographs resulted in a 1 minute film that AlmapBBDO created to advertise Getty Images, the world leading image database for creating and distributing visual contents. The film is surprising when showing 873 images in 15 images per second, sufficient speed to transform the series into a video that, without any text, tells a beautiful story. All photos, without any exceptions, are from the Getty Images archives.
Copywriter Sophie Schoenburg and art director Marcos Kotlhar worked 6 months researching images, improving the script and building each scene so they would not only be understood, but would also touch viewers. Sometimes, for example, a scene would look perfect on paper, but the images chosen to depict it were not sufficient or did not perfectly match up to offer the right movement and sense. And hence the research had to be restarted. The film was directed by Cisma, via Paranoid BR, along with Marcos Kotlhar, the art director at the agency.
For this creation team, the purpose was to adhere to the concept that Getty Images has so many images that anybody is capable of telling any story they want by only using their archives. In the film "Do amor ao Bingo em 873 imagens" [From love to Bingo in 873 images], a storyteller in the corner of the screen describes the images used. The Getty Images logo appears at the end of the story, but the storyteller continues to turn until reaching the exact number of images in the Getty Images archive.

Getty Images is een Internationaal fotostock bedrijf dat de rechten op foto's exploiteert. Op de website staat een keur aan foto's. Als je een foto wil gebruiken, moet je ervoor betalen. De prijzen variëren van een paar euro tot honderden euro's. Soms gaat het mis en gebruiken mensen per ongeluk foto's zonder te betalen. Dan schend je het gebruik van auteursrechten en daar mag Getty Images een boete voor vragen. En dat doen ze. Ze sporen het misbruik op en sturen extreem hoge schikkingsvoorstellen toe.
Meerdere advocaten die de belangen behartigen van mensen die met Getty in de clinch liggen, vinden de schikkingsvoorstellen veel te hoog. Het neigt naar legale afpersing. Het is legaal omdat ze een hoog schikkingsvoorstel doen maar dat betekent niet dat de tegenpartij dat ook moet betalen.
Getty Images hanteert een bekende handelswijze: Ze zoekt alle foutief gebruikte foto's op en schakelt een advocatenkantoor in wat op een dreigende manier probeert zoveel mogelijk geld binnen te harken. Zo zijn er duizenden sommatie brieven de deur uit gestuurd waarin zij deze extreem hoge schikkingsvoorstellen doen. Daar in staat dat als je gelijk betaalt, je 25% korting krijgt op de boete. Als je daar niet mee akkoord gaat, blijven ze de mensen telefonisch onder druk zetten en als je vraagt om bewijs waaruit blijkt dat Getty inderdaad de auteursrechten in handen heeft van de door jou gebruikte foto, dan geven ze niet thuis. Die willen ze alleen aan een rechter overleggen.
Volgens advocaat van den Berg van advocatenkantoor Bright is dit een vorm van dreigen. ''Niemand heeft nog een dagvaarding gehad. Het lijkt erop alsof ze alleen dreigen en uiteindelijk kijken naar wat ze hebben 'verdiend' en de zaak dan laten vallen.''

Getty Images approached producer Basil Stephens and Short and Sweet founder Julia Stephenson with the idea of setting up a film competition which would make use of images in Getty's Hulton Archive. Stephenson drew from her in-depth knowledge of the short film arena to suggest a selection of talented filmmakers. Patient research work involving more than 5 thousand photographs resulted in a 1 minute film that AlmapBBDO created to advertise Getty Images, the world leading image database for creating and distributing visual contents. The film is surprising when showing 873 images in 15 images per second, sufficient speed to transform the series into a video that, without any text, tells a beautiful story. All photos, without any exceptions, are from the Getty Images archives.
Copywriter Sophie Schoenburg and art director Marcos Kotlhar worked 6 months researching images, improving the script and building each scene so they would not only be understood, but would also touch viewers. Sometimes, for example, a scene would look perfect on paper, but the images chosen to depict it were not sufficient or did not perfectly match up to offer the right movement and sense. And hence the research had to be restarted. The film was directed by Cisma, via Paranoid BR, along with Marcos Kotlhar, the art director at the agency.
For this creation team, the purpose was to adhere to the concept that Getty Images has so many images that anybody is capable of telling any story they want by only using their archives. In the film "Do amor ao Bingo em 873 imagens" [From love to Bingo in 873 images], a storyteller in the corner of the screen describes the images used. The Getty Images logo appears at the end of the story, but the storyteller continues to turn until reaching the exact number of images in the Getty Images archive.

Getty Images hanteert een bekende handelswijze: Ze zoekt alle foutief gebruikte foto's op en schakelt een advocatenkantoor in wat op een dreigende manier probeert zoveel mogelijk geld binnen te harken. Zo zijn er duizenden sommatie brieven de deur uit gestuurd waarin zij deze extreem hoge schikkingsvoorstellen doen. Daar in staat dat als je gelijk betaalt, je 25% korting krijgt op de boete. Als je daar niet mee akkoord gaat, blijven ze de mensen telefonisch onder druk zetten en als je vraagt om bewijs waaruit blijkt dat Getty inderdaad de auteursrechten in handen heeft van de door jou gebruikte foto, dan geven ze niet thuis. Die willen ze alleen aan een rechter overleggen.
Volgens advocaat van den Berg van advocatenkantoor Bright is dit een vorm van dreigen. ''Niemand heeft nog een dagvaarding gehad. Het lijkt erop alsof ze alleen dreigen en uiteindelijk kijken naar wat ze hebben 'verdiend' en de zaak dan laten vallen.''

Getty Images is een Internationaal fotostock bedrijf dat de rechten op foto's exploiteert. Op de website staat een keur aan foto's. Als je een foto wil gebruiken, moet je ervoor betalen. De prijzen variëren van een paar euro tot honderden euro's. Soms gaat het mis en gebruiken mensen per ongeluk foto's zonder te betalen. Dan schend je het gebruik van auteursrechten en daar mag Getty Images een boete voor vragen. En dat doen ze. Ze sporen het misbruik op en sturen extreem hoge schikkingsvoorstellen toe.
Meerdere advocaten die de belangen behartigen van mensen die met Getty in de clinch liggen, vinden de schikkingsvoorstellen veel te hoog. Het neigt naar legale afpersing. Het is legaal omdat ze een hoog schikkingsvoorstel doen maar dat betekent niet dat de tegenpartij dat ook moet betalen.
Getty Images hanteert een bekende handelswijze: Ze zoekt alle foutief gebruikte foto's op en schakelt een advocatenkantoor in wat op een dreigende manier probeert zoveel mogelijk geld binnen te harken. Zo zijn er duizenden sommatie brieven de deur uit gestuurd waarin zij deze extreem hoge schikkingsvoorstellen doen. Daar in staat dat als je gelijk betaalt, je 25% korting krijgt op de boete. Als je daar niet mee akkoord gaat, blijven ze de mensen telefonisch onder druk zetten en als je vraagt om bewijs waaruit blijkt dat Getty inderdaad de auteursrechten in handen heeft van de door jou gebruikte foto, dan geven ze niet thuis. Die willen ze alleen aan een rechter overleggen.
Volgens advocaat van den Berg van advocatenkantoor Bright is dit een vorm van dreigen. ''Niemand heeft nog een dagvaarding gehad. Het lijkt erop alsof ze alleen dreigen en uiteindelijk kijken naar wat ze hebben 'verdiend' en de zaak dan laten vallen.''

Getty Images approached producer Basil Stephens and Short and Sweet founder Julia Stephenson with the idea of setting up a film competition which would make use of images in Getty's Hulton Archive. Stephenson drew from her in-depth knowledge of the short film arena to suggest a selection of talented filmmakers.
After picking out ten up-and-coming directors, she gave them the opportunity to pitch. Four of the filmmakers made it on to the shortlist and got the chance to realise their ideas. They were given three months to create their films.
The challenges aim was to highlight the breadth and depth of content available at the Hulton Archive, which offers a unique resource to filmmakers and creatives alike. But rather than set a rigid brief, the challenge offered key words and phrases as prompters to guide the filmmakers creativity. Examples of these prompters included discover our past, images that shape our future, still & moving imagery, ordinary people, ordinary things and extraordinary people, extraordinary things.

Transcript: Three officials have been charged in connection with the water crisis in Flint, Michigan. Flint utilities administrator Michael Glasgow is accused of willfully neglecting office and intentional tampering with evidence to make it seem like there was less lead in the water. Michigan Department of Environmental Quality employees Stephen Busch and Michael Prysby are also charged with evidence tampering, along with several violations of the Safe Drinking Water Act. Transcript: Chicago Blackhawks player Andrew Shaw could be hearing from the NHL offices after cameras appeared to catch him yelling a gay slur. It happened during the Blackhawks' 4-3 loss to the St. Louis Blues in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs on Tuesday. Shaw was given a penalty late in the game and appeared to make an obscene gesture to officials while skating to the penalty box. While in the penalty box, cameras appeared to capture Shaw shouting the gay slur. "Emotions were high. I don't know what I said. I was obviously upset with the call. Mitsubishi Motors Apologizes For Cheating On Fuel Economy Tests - Newsy
Mitsubishi has admitted to falsifying fuel econmy test data for more than 600,000 vehicles sold in Japan. Transcript: Mitsubishi is the latest automaker to admit to manipulating automotive tests. In this case, it aimed to make fuel economy data appear better than it actually was. In a press conference Friday, Mitsubishi executives apologized for falsifying data for some 625,000 vehicles sold in Japan. All the vehicles affected were mini-car models manufactured by Mitsubishi, but some of them were sold by Nissan. Mitsubishi said the fault was discovered during Nissan's in-house testing. Former Cop Gets Probation, Community Service For Killing Unarmed Man - Newsy
Transcript: Peter Liang, the former New York officer found guilty of manslaughter in the 2014 fatal shooting of Akai Gurley, won't spend any time behind bars. A judge sentenced Liang to five years of probation and 800 hours of community service and reduced the conviction to criminally negligent homicide. Three officials have been charged in connection with the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.
Flint utilities administrator Michael Glasgow is accused of willfully neglecting office and intentional tampering with evidence to make it seem like there was less lead in the water.
Michigan Department of Environmental Quality employees Stephen Busch and Michael Prysby are also charged with evidence tampering, along with several violations of the Safe Drinking Water Act.
For nearly 18 months, there were unsafe levels of lead in Flint's water supply after the city switched to a different water source.
Flint has been in a state of emergency for the past four months as residents have been forced to rely on bottled water and filters.

It happened during the Blackhawks' 4-3 loss to the St. Louis Blues in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs on Tuesday.
Shaw was given a penalty late in the game and appeared to make an obscene gesture to officials while skating to the penalty box.
While in the penalty box, cameras appeared to capture Shaw shouting the gay slur.
"Emotions were high. I don't know what I said. I was obviously upset with the call. Being that late in the game, it doesn't give us a chance to tie it up," Shaw told reporters after the game.
According to the NHL official rulebook (rule 23.8), players can receive game misconducts for "racial taunts or slurs" — although not every game misconduct results in a suspension.
Just a few weeks ago, the Blackhawks announced their partnership with the You Can Play Project — a social activist group focused on eradicating gay slurs from sports.
The group says it will be reaching out to the NHL regarding the matter.

Mitsubishi has admitted to falsifying fuel econmy test data for more than 600,000 vehicles sold in Japan.

Mitsubishi is the latest automaker to admit to manipulating automotive tests. In this case, it aimed to make fuel economy data appear better than it actually was.
In a press conference Friday, Mitsubishi executives apologized for falsifying data for some 625,000 vehicles sold in Japan.
All the vehicles affected were mini-car models manufactured by Mitsubishi, but some of them were sold by Nissan. Mitsubishi said the fault was discovered during Nissan's in-house testing.
Mitsubishi says it is putting together a committee of experts from outside the company to investigate the issue and determine if it affected any vehicles sold overseas.
Mitsubishi's shares plunged 15 percent in the Japanese stock market following the announcement, putting its market value at $6.6 billion.
This news comes just months after Volkswagen admitted to falsifying emissions data for 11 million vehicles.
Mitsubishi's scandal doesn't appear to be nearly as widespread, but it further damages the public's trust of automakers.

The U.K.'s Boaty McBoatface might be dead in the water. That's the name the internet came up with after an environmental group decided to ask the public what to name a multimillion-dollar research ship.
In a BBC interview, the U.K.'s minister of science suggested the name was not "suitable" for the roughly $300 million polar research vessel.
"What's not suitable about Boaty McBoatface?," an interviewer asked.
"The gravity of the subjects that this boat will be exploring ... it's going to be doing science on some of the most important issues facing humanity," Jo Johnson, member of Parliament for Orpington, said.
The MP even tweeted last month, encouraging people to participate in the naming contest, but he probably couldn't have imagined the massive public support for Boaty McBoatface.
When the contest closed earlier this week, RRS Boaty McBoatface came in at No. 1 with over 100,000 votes. And you have James Hand to thank for that. The creator of the entry is a former BBC radio host, and he told the outlet it was mostly just a very British thing to do.
"You have to submit a reason, and I actually put it's a brilliant name, which I stand by. I don't know really," Hand told BBC.
The Natural Environment Research Council — which is funding the ocean research — has the final say. But we all know what the people chose.

Peter Liang, the former New York officer found guilty of manslaughter in the 2014 fatal shooting of Akai Gurley, won't spend any time behind bars. A judge sentenced Liang to five years of probation and 800 hours of community service and reduced the conviction to criminally negligent homicide.
While there's sure to be some backlash, the sentencing basically lines up with what the district attorney's office recommended. Before the sentencing, DA Ken Thompson released a statement saying the case wasn't about revenge, adding Liang's "incarceration is not necessary to protect the public, and due to the unique circumstances of this case, a prison sentence is not warranted."
Before the sentencing, Liang apologized to Gurley's family, with his lawyer adding the former cop "is not a villain or a demon."
Liang was patrolling a housing project with his gun drawn when he says he was surprised by a noise and accidentally fired. Prosecutors argued Liang broke department policy by walking around with his finger on the trigger of his gun.
Liang and his partner then argued about who would call in the shooting instead of providing Gurley with any first aid. Both testified they never received the proper CPR training.
The case had a bit of a different tone than other publicized officer-involved shooting cases in the U.S. Liang's supporters argued he was being discriminated against because he's Chinese-American and claimed he was a "scapegoat" for white officers who hadn't been indicted.
After the sentencing, Gurley's aunt told NBC: "Akai's life does not matter. Black lives do not matter. But don't worry: Justice will be served one way or another."

Michael Strahan is going to have to start setting his alarm for even earlier each morning, because he's now joining ABC's "Good Morning America" as a full-time co-anchor.
The NFL Hall of Famer has made twice-weekly appearances on ABC's morning show since 2014, usually interviewing celebrities and helping out with some of the show's lighter segments.
"Did we just become best friends?" Strahan asked.
"Yes, we might have," Julia Roberts said.
"Oh my goodness," Strahan said.
The schedule allowed Strahan to still co-host "Live with Kelly and Michael" five days a week with Kelly Ripa.
"I am Michael Strahan, and I don't know who my new co-host is today," Strahan said on an episode of "Live with Kelly and Michael."
"That's right. Call me Pinky Galore," Ripa said.
Unfortunately, his full-time job on "GMA" means Strahan will have to exit his role as a host for "Live," since the two shows air back-to-back and are filmed in different buildings.
And that's what fans seem to be most upset about, with many expressing their gut-wrenching disappointment on Twitter.
Others were able to move past the news to start pitching ideas of who should join Ripa as a new co-host. Many seem to be in favor of Neil Patrick Harris.
Whoever does end up getting chosen by the network will have some big shoes to fill, though.
Strahan began hosting "Live" in 2012 after Regis Philbin left. And together, he and Ripa won a Daytime Emmy for outstanding entertainment talk show host in 2015.
ABC has not yet announced when Strahan's last day on "Live" will be, but the search for a new co-host is expected to start in the fall.

The Hospital Club is currently showing highlights of the Getty Images Gallery's Intimate -- Photographs from Terry O'Neill exhibition, including studies of Muhammad Ali, Michael Caine and Raquel Welch.
O'Neill explains: "I was working on films for two or three weeks at a time and that way I got friendly with the stars and spent as much time as I could with them. This meant I got an insight into my subjects as real people and not just as icons. I think this dimension is really interesting, particularly with photographers' access to celebrities being limited more and more."

Getty Images awarded $80,000 in grants supporting the work of four international photojournalists. Bharat Choudhary, Kosuke Okahara, Paolo Marchetti and Sebastian Liste each received $20,000 prizes and editorial support as winners of the 2012 Getty Grants for Editorial Photography. An additional $20,000 was also pledged to the Chris Hondros Fund in order to further support photojournalism and public awareness initiatives through an award given to Andrea Bruce and Dominic Bracco in June.
Announced at Visa pour l'Image, the annual festival of photojournalism held in Perpignan, France, the grants—first established in 2004—aim to "enable emerging and established photojournalists to pursue projects of personal and editorial merit, focusing attention on significant social and cultural issues."
This year's panel of judges, including Whitney Johnson (Director of Photography, The New Yorker), Jean-Francois Leroy (Director, Visa pour l'Image), Barbara Griffin (Turner Broadcasting Systems), Kira Pollack (Director of Photography, TIME) and photographer Stephanie Sinclair, sorted through 328 story proposals from 60 countries, eventually narrowing in on four projects. According to Aidan Sullivan, Vice President of Assignments at Getty, these four winning projects "deal with a range of compelling and multifaceted issues, from the devastation caused by the Japanese natural disasters to modern day slavery in Brazil."
Bharat Choudhary, an Indian photographer based in London, was recognized for his project, The Silence of Others, which aims to explore the societal and cultural alienation of Muslim youth in France. His project initially began two years ago by examining the 'Islamophobia' of aspects of American and British life. The grant will allow Choudhary to continue his project, delving further into specific triggers inherent to French society.
Four years ago, Paolo Marchetti began FEVER -- The Awakening of European Fascism after noticing a resurgence of interest in extreme right-wing politics. The Rome-based photographer has documented the exponential growth of citizens fleeing their own country in the wake of the Arab Spring. Marchetti will expand the project to other European countries with the award funds.
Tokyo-based photographer Kosuke Okahara documented the devastation at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant following the earthquake that struck Japan in March 2011. The grant will help Okahara continue Fragments/Fukushima as he investigates the true meaning of the disaster upon the world's populations through images and audio interviews.
Sebastian Liste's project, The Brazilian Far West, explores the inequalities caused by Brazil's slow and gradual abolition of slavery, particularly affecting the plight of peasants. Liste, a Spaniard, plans to create a multimedia map illustrating the origins of Brazilian inequality and violence, utilizing photography, video and first person interviews to draw attention to the effects caused by 4% of Brazil's landowners controlling 80% of the country's arable land.

According to 38 North, “limited movement of vehicles and equipment” were photographed at the North Portal, which has been the site of the last three nuclear tests in North Korea. At the Main Support Area, a truck appeared to be seen on April 19, in a similar location to where activity was before a nuclear test in 2013.At the West Portal, 38 North said “two small mine ore carts,” were present on April 19....
