Michael Müller - Division Wiking (english translation)
Seems like many of you wanted english translations for german
RAC bands, so here is my first one from
Michael Müller. I'm sorry if I made a few mistakes, the lyrics are written in a high language and english is not my mothertongue.
Prologue (not in this version):
February 1944, russian campaign
50000 german soldiers and european voluteers are surrounded by an overwhelming superiority of the red army in the pocket of
Cherkassy. They had to follow out the order for the breakout of the pocket. An outstanding role in this undertaking took the fifth SS
Tank Division "Wiking". The divisions last issue of order took place on 15th february
1944 in Chanerovka. The clear words of the commander are portrayed by
Leon Degrelle: "Only a desperate efford can save us, waiting is futile.
Tomorrow at 5 o'clock in the morning, the 50000 men of the pocket will line up against any resistance towards south east.
Breakthrough or death, there is no other solution. The troop movements will begin today at 11 pm." But shortly before the breakthrough a crisis occured. Hostle armoured units attacked the rearguard to stab the breakthrough's back. Only the tanks of the Division Wiking were capable to hold the assault in check for a short time. And the following song deals with these heroes.
+++++
Tanks are rolling in the hail of bombs
in the fire of the artillery
to the last battle in the east
against the enemies' infantery
death brought to the enemy
onwards, onwards into the raging battle !
In the face of the death
they look and won't fall back
ready to die
they fight side by side
doomed to die
they freed their comrades
fighting and dying
in loyality side by side
18 tanks on the ride of death
of the fifth SS Division
to safe the comrades life and retreat
against half a million
The hand ready for the final salute
the storm breaks out
In the face of the death
they look and won't fall back
ready to die
they stand side by side
doomed to die
they freed their comrades
fighting and dying
in loyality side by side
In the face of the dead
they look and won't fall back
ready to die
they fight side by side
doomed to die
they freed their comrades
fighting and dying
in loyality side by side
For their comrades they gave their life
when there was no escape anymore
In the last battle against the superiority
they met their honorable fate
Degrelle :
I saw them just before they threw themselfes in front of the enemy
These young tank grenadiers made a great image (?)
In their short, black with silver decorated coat uniforms
they were standing in their tank formation and knew
hat they were driving towards death.
Many of them were proudly wearing the band with the big,
Black silver knights cross, shining targets for the enemy.
No one of these excellent warriors seemed heated or moved.
They rolled on their chains through the snow and the tangle
of the retreating army.
No one came back, no tank, no man, orders were orders.
To win one hour, this hour, which maybe
could safe ten thousands soldiers of the
Reich and europe ,
the german tank soldiers died until the last man, south of Chanerovka,
in the morning of Feb. 17, 1944
In the face of the death
they look and won't fall back.
ready to die
they fight side by side
doomed to die
they freed their comrades
fighting and dying
in loyality side by side
In the face of the death
they look and won't fall back.
ready to die
they fight side by side
doomed to die
they freed their comrades
fighting and dying
in loyality side by side
