Stinson Beach, California
Stinson Beach is a census-designated place in Marin County, California, on the west coast of the United States. Stinson Beach is located 2.5 miles (4 km) east-southeast of Bolinas, at an elevation of 26 feet (8 m). The population of the Stinson Beach CDP (census-designated place) was 632 at the 2010 census.
Stinson Beach is about a 35-minute drive from the Golden Gate Bridge on California's Highway 1. It is near important attractions such as Muir Woods National Monument, Muir Beach, and Mount Tamalpais. It has a long beach, where the cold water promotes fog throughout the year.
Stinson Beach is a popular day trip for people in the San Francisco Bay Area and for tourists visiting northern California. Although most visitors arrive by private car, Stinson Beach is linked to Marin City by a daily bus service, and the network of hiking trails around Mount Tamalpais also reaches the town. The beach is one of the cleanest in the state, and sandy, unlike the rockier neighboring beach in Bolinas.

Stinson Beach near Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco
Stinson Beach was named to honor largest local landlords, the Stinson family who bought the land in 1866. Each year thousands of visitors enjoy its white sands, clear waters, and ample picnic facilities. The beach is one of northern California's best swimming and surfing beaches, drawing big crowds on nice summer days. But within the next century, this low lying barrier beach may disappear. As climate change accelerates, sea-levels are predicted to rise up to 1.4 meters over the next hundred years. Beaches like Stinson will greatly erode and move dozens of meters or more inland from their current locations. Rockaway beach near Pacifica South of San Francisco is a popular destination due to the combination of great coastal views, fine dining, surfing, and hiking. In 2016, the town had its first annual Dog Surfing Championship. The modern history of this place is connected to its geological features. There used to be a limestone quarry supplying materials to paint buildings in San Francisco and for making the track bed of the railroad. The railroad made this area easily accessible from San Francisco at the beginning of twentieth century. This is by far the most peaceful of our vacation movies, so far. Leaving San Jose, we visit the Santa Cruz home and beaches of Dr. Gary G'broagfran and his spouse, Dr. Eohippus Lovechild. The paintings seen are all by Gary. (See http://garyhughesmfa.com/ for better looks at these and many more.) Gary and Puzzling Evidence take us on a tour of local beaches. Back at Philo's, his youngest daughter shows us an animated movie she has been creating with children's software. The next day, Philo, Kaosmic MamaKat and Doug Wellman (Puzzling Evidence) guide us through Muir Woods National Monument followed by a meal and Slacking at Stinson Beach, California. Wei and Lily make sand art and everyone enjoys the sunset. The next day, Stang and Doe drive through the garlic-choked smog of Gilmore, CA, Garlic Capital of the Universe. Music: "Choir of Eden" and "Now and Forever" by The Flyin' Ryan Brothers (ryanetics.com) from their CD, "TOTALITY."

Stinson Beach is one of Golden Gate National Recreation Area's most active and beautiful beaches. Each year thousands of visitors enjoy its white sands, clear waters, and ample picnic facilities. The beach is one of northern California's best swimming and surfing beaches, drawing big crowds on nice summer days.
But within the next century, this low lying barrier beach may disappear.
As climate change accelerates, sea-levels are predicted to rise up to 1.4 meters over the next hundred years. Beaches like Stinson will greatly erode and move dozens of meters or more inland from their current locations. High tide will engulf Park Service land as well as private property along the shoreline, slowly reducing the amount of land available for use.
Golden Gate National Recreation Area is currently taking actions to adapt to the changing climate conditions. At Stinson Beach, for example, plans have been made to move the leech field for the restrooms and many of the underground power lines father inland so that they will be less affected by the future rise in sea-level. The National Park Service is committed to protecting and preserving our nation's lands. By reducing the park's greenhouse gas emissions and developing adaptive management planning, the National Park Service will be ready to manage our parks in a climate-changed future.

Rockaway beach near Pacifica South of San Francisco is a popular destination due to the combination of great coastal views, fine dining, surfing, and hiking. In 2016, the town had its first annual Dog Surfing Championship. The modern history of this place is connected to its geological features. There used to be a limestone quarry supplying materials to paint buildings in San Francisco and for making the track bed of the railroad. The railroad made this area easily accessible from San Francisco at the beginning of twentieth century. However, at one point the railroad went bankrupt and stopped functioning but the access was eventually restored via highway number 1 in the nineteen thirties. The boulders along the shores in front of the parking lot are meant to protect the nearby buildings from erosion. There are trails on the cliffs surrounding the beach and birds of prey are often observed. Beautiful views for those who made it to the top After storms you can spot some strange creatures washed out on the beach. These yellow blobs are the colonies of coral-like animals called bryozoans. The name literally means “moss animals”. Thanks for watching!
