The
Indiana Northeastern Railroad (Reporting
Mark IN) is a
Class III shortline railroad that operates in
Southern Michigan and
Northern Indiana and
Ohio. The railroad is headquartered in
Hillsdale, Michigan, on former
New York Central trackage. The railroad's main offices and dispatch center are located inside an old
NYC railroad tower in downtown
Hillsdale. IN's primary cargo traffic is grain. The railroad serves many various elevators all over the system, connecting rural
America to the outside world. IN interchanges with
Norfolk Southern at
Montpelier, Ohio, where they store some of their locomotives for service on their "
East/West" line. IN's "
North/South" line is from
Steubenville, Indiana to
Coldwater, Michigan. That part of the railroad was rebuilt and upgraded to track speed of 20mph, a far cry from the original condition of the line, back when PC owned the tracks. IN's main roster is composed of first and second generation
EMD diesel locomotives, such as GP30s and GP7s.
Come along with me and chase this unique railroad in this near 30-minute video.
