이라크 간 프란치스코 교황, 시아파 이슬람교 상징 그랜드 아야톨라 알리 시스타니와 만나
Pope Francis began the second day of his four-day stay in Iraq... visiting Shia Muslim's holy city of Najaf.
There, he sat down with one of Shia Islam's most important figures.
Our Han Seong-woo has more.
A historic meeting between Christianity and Islam in the holy city of Najaf.
Day 2 of the first-ever papal visit to Iraq saw Pope Francis meet Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani, the reclusive spiritual leader of millions of Shia Muslims, on Saturday.
The Associated Press reports the closed-door meeting had been months in the making and touched on issues plaguing Iraq's Christian minority.
A day earlier, the Pope had spoken to bishops and other religious figures at the Our Lady of Salvation Church, the site of a bloody massacre committed by an affiliate of al-Qaeda in 2010.
"Their deaths strongly remind us that incitement to war, hating attitudes, violence, and bloodshed are not compatible with religious teachings. I want to remember all the victims of violence and persecution, whichever religious community they belonged to."
Following his talk with the top cleric, the Pope went to attend an inter-religious meeting on the plain of Ur, believed to be the birthplace of Abraham.
On his return to Baghdad later in the afternoon, the pontiff will celebrate Holy Mass at the Chaldean Cathedral of Saint Joseph.
Before departing for Rome on Monday, it's expected Pope Francis will speak directly to Iraq's reeling Christian community, which has shrunk considerably over the past three decades due to direct violence and those seeking asylum elsewhere.
He is also scheduled to stop by Mosul and see how the Islamic State's terrorism has damaged the country.
The pope's four-day visit marks his first international trip since the start of the pandemic.
Media outlets say Pope Francis and his entourage have all been vaccinated against COVID-19.

Arab Muslim historian and hagiographer, Ibn Ishaq, reported in his traditional Muslim[disambiguation needed] biography of Muhammad, Sirat Rasul Allah that the 18th surah of the Qur'an (which includes the story of Dhu l-Qarnayn) was revealed to the Islamic prophet Muhammad by God on account of some questions posed by rabbis residing in the city of Medina – the verse was revealed during the Meccan period of Muhammad's life. According to Ibn Ishaq, Muhammad's tribe, the powerful Quraysh, were greatly concerned about their tribesman who had started claiming prophethood and wished to consult rabbis about the matter. The Quraysh sent two men to the rabbis of Medina, reasoning that they had superior knowledge of the scriptures and about the prophets of God....

The Quraysh sent two men to the rabbis of Medina, reasoning that they had superior knowledge of the scriptures and about the prophets of God. The two Quraysh men described their tribesman, Muhammad, to the rabbis.
The rabbis told the men to ask Muhammad three questions:
They [the rabbis] said, "Ask him about three things which we will tell you to ask, and if he answers them then he is a Prophet who has been sent; if he does not, then he is saying things that are not true, in which case how you will deal with him will be up to you. Ask him about some young men in ancient times, what was their story for theirs is a strange and wondrous tale. Ask him about a man who traveled a great deal and reached the east and the west of the earth. What was his story and ask him about the Ruh (soul or spirit) – what is it? If he tells you about these things, then he is a Prophet, so follow him, but if he does not tell you, then he is a man who is making things up, so deal with him as you see fit."[15]
According to Ibn Ishaq, when Muhammad was informed of the three questions from the rabbis, he said that he would have the answers in the morning but did not say "if God wills it". For fifteen days, Muhammad waited eagerly for the revelation. Muhammad did not answer the question until then. Doubt in Muhammad began to grow amongst the people of Mecca. Then, after fifteen days, Muhammad received the revelation of al-Kahf as an answer to the questions.

This article is about the religion. For the history of Islamic civilization, see History of Islam. For other uses, see Islam (disambiguation).
Islam (/ˈɪslɑːm/)[note 1] is an Abrahamic monotheistic religion teaching that there is only one God (Allah)[1] and that Muhammad is a messenger of God.[2][3] It is the world's second-largest religion[4] and the fastest-growing major religion in the world,[5][6][7] with over 1.8 billion followers or 24.1% of the global population,[8] known as Muslims.[9] Muslims make up a majority of the population in 50 countries.[4] Islam teaches that God is merciful, all-powerful, unique[10] and has guided mankind through prophets, revealed scriptures and natural signs.[3][11] The primary scriptures of Islam are the Quran, viewed by Muslims as the verbatim word of God, and the teachings and normative example (called the sunnah, composed of accounts called hadith) of Muhammad (c. 570–8 June 632 CE).
Muslims believe that Islam is the complete and universal version of a primordial faith that was revealed many times before through prophets including Adam, Abraham, Moses and Jesus.[12][13][14] As for the Quran, Muslims consider it to be the unaltered and final revelation of God.[15] Like other Abrahamic religions, Islam also teaches a final judgment with the righteous rewarded paradise and unrighteous punished in hell.[16][17] Religious concepts and practices include the Five Pillars of Islam, which are obligatory acts of worship, and following Islamic law, which touches on virtually every aspect of life and society, from banking and welfare to women and the environment.[18][19] The cities of Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem are home to the three holiest sites in Islam.[20]
Aside from the theological viewpoint,[21][22][23] Islam is historically believed to have originated in the early 7th century CE in Mecca,[24] and by the 8th century the Umayyad Islamic caliphate extended from Iberia in the west to the Indus River in the east. The Islamic Golden Age refers to the period traditionally dated from the 8th century to the 13th century, during the Abbasid Caliphate, when much of the historically Islamic world was experiencing a scientific, economic and cultural flourishing.[25][26][27] The expansion of the Muslim world involved various caliphates and empires, traders and conversion to Islam by missionary activities (dawah).[28]
Most Muslims are of one of two denominations:[29][30] Sunni (75–90%)[31] or Shia (10–20%).[32] About 13% of Muslims live in Indonesia,[33] the largest Muslim-majority country, 31% in South Asia,[34][35] the largest population of Muslims in the world,[36] 23% in the Middle East-North Africa,[37] where it is the dominant religion[38] and 15% in Sub-Saharan Africa.[39][40][41] Sizeable Muslim communities are also found in the Americas, the Caucasus, Central Asia, China, Europe, the Mainland Southeast Asia, the Philippines, and Russia.[42]

The Quran (/kʊˈrɑːn/, kor-AHN;[i] Arabic: القرآن, romanized: al-Qurʼān, lit. 'the recitation', Arabic pronunciation: [alqurˈʔaːn][ii]), also romanized Qur'an or Koran,[iii] is the central religious text of Islam, believed by Muslims to be a revelation from God (Allah).[11] It is widely regarded as the finest work in classical Arabic literature.[12][13][iv][v] It is organized in 114 chapters (surah (سور; singular: سورة, sūrah)), which consist of verses (āyāt (آيات; singular: آية, āyah)).
Muslims believe that the Quran was orally revealed by God to the final prophet, Muhammad, through the archangel Gabriel (Jibril),[16][17] incrementally over a period of some 23 years, beginning in the month of Ramadan,[18] when Muhammad was 40; and concluding in 632, the year of his death.[11][19][20] Muslims regard the Quran as Muhammad's most important miracle; a proof of his prophethood;[21] and the culmination of a series of divine messages starting with those revealed to Adam, including the Tawrah (Torah), the Zabur ("Psalms") and the Injil ("Gospel"). The word Quran occurs some 70 times in the text itself, and other names and words are also said to refer to the Quran.[22]
The Quran is thought by Muslims to be not simply divinely inspired, but the literal word of God.[23] Muhammad did not write it as he did not know how to write. According to tradition, several of Muhammad's companions served as scribes, recording the revelations.[24] Shortly after the prophet's death, the Quran was compiled by the companions, who had written down or memorized parts of it.[25] Caliph Uthman established a standard version, now known as the Uthmanic codex, which is generally considered the archetype of the Quran known today. There are, however, variant readings, with mostly minor differences in meaning.[24]
The Quran assumes familiarity with major narratives recounted in the Biblical and apocryphal scriptures. It summarizes some, dwells at length on others and, in some cases, presents alternative accounts and interpretations of events.[26][27] The Quran describes itself as a book of guidance for mankind (2:185). It sometimes offers detailed accounts of specific historical events, and it often emphasizes the moral significance of an event over its narrative sequence.[28] Supplementing the Quran with explanations for some cryptic Quranic narratives, and rulings that also provide the basis for sharia (Islamic law) in most denominations of Islam,[29][vi] are hadiths—oral and written traditions believed to describe words and actions of Muhammad.[vii][29] During prayers, the Quran is recited only in Arabic.[30]

Period of Revelation
Mecca | (Makki Surah)
Total ayat - 110 :|: Ruku - 12
Introduction

Period of Revelation
Mecca | (Makki Surah)
Total ayat - 110 :|: Ruku - 12
Introduction

This article is about Islam. For other uses, see Islam (disambiguation).
Islam (/ˈɪslɑːm/;[A] Arabic: اَلْإِسْلَامُ, romanized: al-’Islām, [ɪsˈlaːm] (About this soundlisten) "submission [to God]")[1] is an Abrahamic monotheistic religion teaching that Muhammad is a messenger of God.[2][3] It is the world's second-largest religion with 1.9 billion followers or 24.9% of the world's population,[4] known as Muslims.[5] Muslims make up a majority of the population in 51 countries.[6] Islam teaches that God (Allah) is One, Merciful, Eternal , Independent, All-Powerful, and Unique,[7] and has guided humanity through prophets, revealed scriptures, and natural signs.[3][8] The primary scriptures of Islam are the Quran, believed to be the verbatim word of God, as well as the teachings and normative examples (called the sunnah, composed of accounts called hadith) of Muhammad (c. 570 – 632 CE).[9]
Muslims believe that Islam is the complete and universal version of a primordial faith that was revealed many times before through prophets, including Adam, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus.[10] Muslims consider the Quran in Arabic to be the unaltered and final revelation of God.[11] Like other Abrahamic religions, Islam also teaches a final judgment with the righteous rewarded in paradise and the unrighteous punished in hell.[12] Religious concepts and practices include the Five Pillars of Islam, which are obligatory acts of worship, as well as following Islamic law (sharia), which touches on virtually every aspect of life and society, from banking and welfare to women and the environment.[13][14] The cities of Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem are home to the three holiest sites in Islam.[15]
From a historical point of view, Islam originated in early 7th century CE in the Arabian Peninsula, in Mecca,[16] and by the 8th century, the Umayyad Caliphate extended from Iberia in the west to the Indus River in the east. The Islamic Golden Age refers to the period traditionally dated from the 8th century to the 13th century, during the Abbasid Caliphate, when much of the historically Muslim world was experiencing a scientific, economic, and cultural flourishing.[17][18][19] The expansion of the Muslim world involved various caliphates and states such as the Ottoman Empire, trade, and conversion to Islam by missionary activities (dawah).[20]
Most Muslims are of one of two denominations: Sunni (85–90%)[21] or Shia (10–15%).[22][23][24] Sunni and Shia differences arose from disagreement over the succession to Muhammad and acquired broader political significance, as well as theological and juridical dimensions.[25] About 12% of Muslims live in Indonesia, the most populous Muslim-majority country;[26] 31% live in South Asia,[27] the largest population of Muslims in the world;[28] 20% in the Middle East–North Africa, where it is the dominant religion;[29] and 15% in sub-Saharan Africa.[29] Sizable Muslim communities can also be found in the Americas, China, and Europe.[30][31][29] Islam is the fastest-growing major religion in the world.[32][33]
