For Real was an American R&B and soul quartet, that formed in 1993. In the latter part of that decade they were nominated for a Grammy, Billboard Music Award, and Soul Train Music Award.
For Real secured their recording contract by accident. "We were picking up our manager from the airport. So we decided to greet him with an acappella song. Someone from A&M Records just happened to be in the airport and heard us perform. Not long after, we were signed," said Latanyia Baldwin.
The band released their debut album, It's a Natural Thang, with production from Brian McKnight on A&M Records in 1994, and it became a critical success, including a rare four stars from Rolling Stone magazine. Their first single, "You Don't Wanna Miss" hit #28 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart; the group's second single, "Easy to Love", peaked at #65 on the same chart. The third single, "You Don't Know Nothin'", peaked at #88 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also peaked at #54 in the UK Singles Chart in July 1995. The album sold over one million copies worldwide, and peaked at #80 on the Billboard 200.
For Real is a 2009 film which follows the point of view of six-year-old Shruti (Zoya Hassan). Family discord has a deep impact on her and she starts feeling that her mother (Sarita Choudhary) is an alien from the Orion galaxy who has exchanged places with her own mother.
6 year old Shruti (Zoya Siddiqi Hassan) believes her mother, Priya, (Sarita Choudhary) has been replaced by an alien from the Orion galaxy. She turns to her brother (Sriharsh Sharma) for help, but he doesn't believe her. Her father as always is so wrapped up in his work that he remains unavailable to her. Unable to bear the absence of her real mother Shruti decides to set out and get her real mother back.
This is an intense movie dealing with the impact of seemingly trivial family tiffs on the tender psychology of a child. It portrays the world from the standpoint of a little child and shows how children perceive various things in life.
Zoya Hassan plays the main character of six-year-old Shruti. Sarita Choudhury plays Shruti's mother. Adil Hussain plays the role of Shruti's father who is perpetually preoccupied with work and does not spend much time with his family. Sriharsh Sharma plays Shruti's older brother. Sameer Dharmadhikari also plays a role in this film.
Tanner '88 is a political mockumentary miniseries written by Garry Trudeau and directed by Robert Altman. First broadcast by HBO during the months leading up to the 1988 U.S. presidential election, it purports to tell the behind-the-scenes story of the campaign of former Michigan U.S. representative Jack Tanner during his bid to secure the Democratic Party's nomination for President of the United States.
The story is told from a number of different points of view, including Tanner, his campaign staff, the small army of news reporters that constantly follow the candidate, and volunteers. Many political figures of the time appear (some in cameos, some extended), including Bruce Babbitt, Bob Dole, Kitty Dukakis, Gary Hart, Jesse Jackson, and Pat Robertson. Trudeau and Altman revisited the story 16 years later in Tanner on Tanner.
Representative Jack Tanner of Michigan (Michael Murphy) is an obscure liberal Democratic politician who struggles to find a voice in the early 1988 Democratic primaries. His campaign manager, T.J. Cavanaugh (Pamela Reed), uses an unscripted, impassioned hotel-room speech caught on camera as part of an advertising campaign focusing on Tanner's authenticity and integrity. Using the slogan "For Real", Tanner emerges from a wide field of contenders to battle for the nomination against two high-profile and better-funded candidates: Jesse Jackson and eventual nominee Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis.
For Real! is the debut album of Ruben and the Jets. Released in 1973, the album was produced by Frank Zappa, who wrote the first track and played guitar on the second track.
Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention recorded a concept album called Cruising with Ruben & the Jets in 1968 which involved a fictitious Chicano doo-wop and rock and roll band called Ruben and the Jets. Subsequently, Zappa stated that the Mothers of Invention would record a second Ruben & the Jets album. No sequel to Cruising with Ruben & the Jets was produced.
Zappa was later contacted by a band which consisted of Mexican-American musicians Ruben Guevara, Tony Duran, Robert "Frog" Camarena, Johnny Martinez, Robert "Buffalo" Roberts, Bill Wild, Bob Zamora and Mike Albert, who sought Zappa's permission to name their group Ruben and the Jets, in honor of the Mothers of Invention album. Zappa approved the group name, and agreed to produce their debut album, For Real!, which was released in 1973 on Mercury Records; Zappa also wrote the album's opening song, "If I Could Only Be Your love Again", and played guitar on the second track, "Dedicated To The One I Love".
