Figueirense FC

Figueirense Futebol Clube, also known as Figueirense (Portuguese pronunciation: [fiɡejˈɾẽsi]), is a Brazilian football club based in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina. Their home stadium is Estádio Orlando Scarpelli, also known as Scarpelão, with a capacity of 19,584.

In the state of Santa Catarina, Figueirense is the club that more often participated in Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, with 16 holdings by 2015.

History

The club was founded as Figueirense Football Club on June 12, 1921. The club is named Figueirense after the neighborhood where it is located, in Centro neighborhood). Figueirense means "from Figueira". Figueirense was one of the founders of the defunct Liga Catharinense de Desportos Terrestres, organized on April 12, 1923. In 1932 the team won their first state championship. From 1935 to 1937, Figueirense was three times in a row Catarinense champion. In 1939, Figueirense won again the state championship, that was end of the Golden Decade of the club.

In 1972, was the end of the 30-year state championship titleless period. In 1973, Figueirense was the first team of Santa Catarina state in Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. In 1974, the team won Campeonato Catarinense again.

Campeonato Catarinense

The Campeonato Catarinense de Futebol, known as Campeonato Catarinense or simply Catarinão, is the main competition of soccer from state of Santa Catarina, in Brazil.

History

The Campeonato Catarinense top level has had several different names since it started. From its first edition, in 1924, to 1985, it was called just Campeonato Catarinense (Santa Catarina Championship). From 1986 to 2003 it was named Campeonato Catarinense Primeira Divisão (Santa Catarina Championship Premier Division). In 2004 and in 2005 the competition name was Série A1, and since 2006, the competition is named Divisão Principal (Top Division).

Sport (UK) or sports (US) are all forms of usually competitive physical activity or games which, through casual or organised participation, aim to use, maintain or improve physical ability and skills while providing entertainment to participants, and in some cases, spectators. Usually the contest or game is between two sides, each attempting to exceed the other. Some sports allow a tie game; others provide tie-breaking methods, to ensure one winner and one loser. A number of such two-sided contests may be arranged in a tournament producing a champion. Many sports leagues make an annual champion by arranging games in a regular sports season, followed in some cases by playoffs. Hundreds of sports exist, from those between single contestants, through to those with hundreds of simultaneous participants, either in teams or competing as individuals. Sport is generally recognised as activities which are based in physical athleticism or physical dexterity, with the largest major competitions such as the Olympic Games admitting only sports meeting this definition, and other organisations such as the Council of Europe using definitions precluding activities without a physical element from classification as sports. However, a number of competitive, but non-physical, activities claim recognition as mind sports. The International Olympic Committee (through ARISF) recognises both chess and bridge as bona fide sports, and SportAccord, the international sports federation association, recognises five non-physical sports, although limits the number of mind games which can be admitted as sports.

Almirante

Almirante is a corregimiento and city in the Bocas del Toro Province of the Republic of Panama. Its name is Spanish for Admiral.

Demographics

Almirante has a land area of 95.4 square kilometres (36.8 sq mi) and had a population of 12,731 as of 2010, giving it a population density of 133.5 inhabitants per square kilometre (346/sq mi). Its population as of 1990 was 11,584; its population as of 2000 was 12,430.

Tourist Use

For travelers, Almirante is mainly used as a jumping off point for land travel to other cities on the mainland, Panama or to Costa Rica. An approximately 30-minute water taxi ride from Colón Island, which usually costs $5.00, will land persons in Almirante. From the water taxi dock, it's only a few minute taxi ride to the bus stop known as "el cruce." There are taxis waiting both at the water taxi dock, and at "el cruce".

There 2 bus terminals, one located in the center of the town, where you can take Changuinola buses that can take you to Guabito. The second station is located in the outskirt of the town known as "el cruce", there you can take David and Panama City buses.
