The SCIENCE OF THIS MOVE: 1) How to convert your outside game to an inside game = Turning your weakness into a strength. Instead of the Center being a decoy in this position (above the key) he actually can score from the forward position, becoming a threat from any position on the court. My objective is to expand the big man's game to have a scorer mentality. Traditionally, when a Center is outside the key, he would normally stand and swing the ball to the other side or look for a guard to take the ball away from him and then post up because he's out of his shooting range. When the Center is outside, he is now playing a forward position. With one or two dribbles he can be back in his comfort zone to shoot the ball. By doing this, you force the Center (i.e. your opponent) to play a forward game, thereby taking him out of his comfort zone and now playing to your strength. 2) How to convert your inside game to an outside game = Turning the Post move into a Forward move (i.e. face-up move) In the first scenario, you recognize that your opponent is vulnerable to the forward/face up move. The next time you call for the ball in the post, face-up and execute the same move, finishing with a jumper. Summary: A scorer mentality is to find a way to get your shot off uncontested. In this case, you get your opponent to back-pedal while you are pulling up for the jumper.
