Arlo (pronounced AR-loh) is a given name for males. There are several origins of the name. From Old English, it is a variation of Harlow /HA(r)-low/, derived from the Anglo-Saxon here 'army, troops; war-' and hlaw 'mound, cairn, hill,' thereby meaning 'army hill.' In Italian it can be a variant of Carlo(s), Karlo(s), equivalent to the English name Charles, which in turn is derived from Middle High German karl 'man.' In Spanish, its meaning is 'barberry tree.' Arlo can also be a variant of Harley and the first formant in Arlene, which derive from Old English har "hare", "rabbit" and ear(n) "eagle." The second formant, giving -lo(w), -l(e)y, etc. are topographic names, such as the hlaw mentioned above. For example, the ancestors of today's lee (and name Lee), loch, etc. As such, names like Harley, Arlo, etc. can also mean "eagle's hill," "hare's clearing," and so on.
Variant forms of Arlo include: Arlow, Arlowe, Arrlo, Harlow and Harlowe.

Plot: The WB's untitled Chuck Ranberg-Anne Flett-Giordano comedy is about about a single mother of three (Camryn Manheim) with a 1970s rock 'n roll sensibility that moves into an upscale neighborhood and clashes with the resident Gucci-Pucci Mommy Militia. A hard-working single mother who doesn't suffer fools gladly, Camryn moves across town into her parents' old house so that her three kids, Arlo, Crosby and Joni - all named after Camryn's old rock idols - can attend better schools and live in a nicer area. Badly out of sync with the yuppie "Mommy Militia" that rules the neighborhood, Camryn refuses to conform to their shallow standards and ultimately winds up giving the community's stodgy status quo a go.

Plot: Ten years after a covert military experiment on a remote Pacific island went wrong and killed eighteen servicemen and his assistant, Dr. Richard Long is still trying to forget the havoc that the experiment caused. Living in the small town of Jerome, Montana, Long still does scientific experiments at the local base, and he enjoys his time fly-fishing with Tim Mason, who works at a local diner. Long is visited by Colonel Andrew Brynner, a former military officer who took the blame and served ten years in Leavenworth Federal Prison for Long's experiment. Now a free man with a score to settle, Brynner has assembled a team of terrorists, including an icy blond named Vaughn. Brynner plans to steal and then sell "Elvis" -- Long's highly volatile, blue crystal substance -- to the highest international bidder. Unfortunately for him, Long, who gets killed, has already delivered "Elvis" to Mason, along with directions that the substance must remain below fifty degrees Fahrenheit, or it will detonate and vaporize everyone within several hundred miles of it. After Mason and Arlo, a wisecracking ice cream delivery man, have a run-in with Brynner, they try to get the substance to Fort Magruder. They don't exactly get along with each other -- Arlo only agrees to transport the substance in his ice cream truck because Mason held a gun on him -- but they find a common bond in trying to avoid Brynner, who will stop at nothing to get the substance.

bent by the rays of the summer sun
fall sick and quietly
drown in the cracks in the cracks of her windshield
there is a wind that blows through the window
slip fall down and bump my little head
but there is no sympathy
Shutterbug you are the end, you are the writing on the wall
I hung around with you in your bedroom
counting all your finger and your toes
to pose for photographs
keeping the time with the flicks of your fingers
we fell asleep too tired to remember
all the things we did that afternoon
to make my summer head
float like a bug on the skin of the water
Shutterbug I could not wait to get my fingers on you
