Here is my video coverage of Round 1 of the 2015 Global Time Attack Pro Championships. Huge thank you to UMS Tuning in Arizona for letting me tag along to the opposite side of the country, and thank you to all the GTA staff and participants that made this event truly awesome. Looking forward to next year.
Filmed mostly freehand with a Canon T3i, sometimes with a tripod.

Finally after many years I made it to World Time Attack.
I had only been to Sydney once many years ago and my excitement levels were off the scale to see Under Suzuka's Carbon S15. Missing the event every year it made me like a kid in a candy store. Also because I was shooting with my new GH4 for the day.
We flew in and caught the train and it made us feel quite backward with their cheap pricing and on time, double decker, seating arrangement changing... anyway,
Having caught a cab from the station, we arrived around the back entrance to Eastern creek to enter World Time Attack.
We walked underneath the track through a circular a tunnel which emerged at a marshaling area. It was awe inspiring to see the size of Eastern Creek and experiencing what was provided for the weekend of international Motorsport.
Music played loudly as time attack cars rocketed around the track shooting flames and creating a spectical for young and old to enjoy.
As we walked through and explored the many trade stands with sequential gearboxes and gigantic turbochargers and custom buit engines, we made our way up to the Low down event.
The cars were off the chain.
unfortunately we didn't get to see the final runs of the time attack cars due to track temps being waaay to hot and being pushed to the late afternoon. we had a plane to catch but we still get a lot of footage that i don't think you'll see anywhere else. cant wait for 2016 to get some more time attack footage!

The NA Class from the Attack -Maximum Challenge- event at Tsukuba Circuit in December 2014.
Unfortunately, course conditions were far from ideal with the rain that had fallen the day before.
However, some had managed to hit the elusive 59's and gained rights to advance to the Tsukuba Championship Time Attack to be held in February 2015.
The Tsukuba Championship Time Attack will feature the top finishers from the February 2014 time attack and this event to decide once and for all the fastest time attack car in Japan!

The 7th Attack - Maximum Challenge.
Rain had cut chances short of new personal bests this day.
However, lucky entrants in Class 1 were able to get one session with dry conditions and some were able to set new personal best lap times.

I entered Round 1 of the Zummy Racing Super Time Attack 2016 Series with hopes of achieving a lap time in the 1'04s.
Unfortunately, with failure of the custom one-off tension rods I had installed, achieving my target time will have to wait until next time.
I had enough free time between my sessions to get footage of the Premium Class, which consisted of the Attack regulars.
This video isn't as detailed as my others from the -Maximum Challenge- events but I hope you enjoy it.

A time attack is another term for time trial. The term is commonly used in Japan for individual time trial events for motor vehicles that involves a vehicle running around the circuit in lieu of a qualifying lap and the term is widely adopted outside the country for tuner event and media.
Time attack (alternatively known as Super Lap or Tuner Battles) originated in Japan when the tuning media organized the event on race circuits such as Tsukuba Circuit, where it commonly occurs, as a proving ground for street tuned cars built with a large budget by tuning companies. As a result of the quick rise in popularity, tuners developed purpose built cars for the competition, including HKS CT230R Lancer Evolution, with its body made entirely out of carbon fiber. The Lancer Evo is the OEM chassis time attack record holder at Tsukuba.
Unlike other timed motorsport disciplines such as sprinting and hillclimbing, the car is required to start off under full rolling start conditions following a warm up lap where they will have to accelerate out as fast as possible to determine how fast they enter their timed lap. Commonly, as cars consist of modified roadgoing cars, cars are required to wear tires authorized for road use and in all, drivers are allocated to three laps in a final event run; warm-up, timed and cool-down.

Dubbed "The World's Fastest GTR", the HKS GT1000+ GTR, together with Nobuteru Taniguchi recently made an explosive entry onto TIMETOATTACK stage with a never before seen, blazing laptime of 2:07.193. As the name suggest, the GT1000+ produces in excess of 1200hp and began life from a 4.1L stroked VR38 featuring reinforced components, matched with not 6 but 12 pieces of 575cc injectors to provide enough race juice for when twin GT1000 turbochargers introduce an atomic surge of boost at full chat. he GT1000+ GTR won’t go far if not for the work that had gone into transmission engineering. The standard twin clutch box had been reworked with bigger and stronger gearset, ensuring the ‘box’s ability to withstand up to 1400hp. Exterior and Aero wise, a huge part was contributed by BenSopra, where everything from the front and rear bumpers, diffusers and such were applied. The HKS GT1000+ if you hadn’t already know runs on Advan full slicks and during the attack weekend, it was a classified as a demo contender. The TIMETOATTACK platform allows for Semi Slick tyres only. Even so, the sheer rarity and performance of the HKS GT1000+ GTR has inspired many at the fateful weekend, clocking in at an untouchable lap of 2:07.193! It is no doubt the lowest lap time figure we’ve seen throughout the years of TIMETOATTACK and is one to be inspired from and perhaps see a worthy contender challenge it in the near future. World Time Attack Challenge + Lowdown S&S; 2015
Finally after many years I made it to World Time Attack. I had only been to Sydney once many years ago and my excitement levels were off the scale to see Under Suzuka's Carbon S15. Missing the event every year it made me like a kid in a candy store. Also because I was shooting with my new GH4 for the day. We flew in and caught the train and it made us feel quite backward with their cheap pricing and on time, double decker, seating arrangement changing... anyway, Having caught a cab from the station, we arrived around the back entrance to Eastern creek to enter World Time Attack. We walked underneath the track through a circular a tunnel which emerged at a marshaling area. It was awe inspiring to see the size of Eastern Creek and experiencing what was provided for the weekend of inter... -

The NA Class from the Attack -Maximum Challenge- event at Tsukuba Circuit in December 2014. Unfortunately, course conditions were far from ideal with the rain that had fallen the day before. However, some had managed to hit the elusive 59's and gained rights to advance to the Tsukuba Championship Time Attack to be held in February 2015. The Tsukuba Championship Time Attack will feature the top finishers from the February 2014 time attack and this event to decide once and for all the fastest time attack car in Japan! However, lucky entrants in Class 1 were able to get one session with dry conditions and some were able to set new personal best lap times. I entered Round 1 of the Zummy Racing Super Time Attack 2016 Series with hopes of achieving a lap time in the 1'04s. Unfortunately, with failure of the custom one-off tension rods I had installed, achieving my target time will have to wait until next time. I had enough free time between my sessions to get footage of the Premium Class, which consisted of the Attack regulars. Time Attack Toyota Supra
A not so common sight at world time attack in Sydney is the Toyota Supra. This year we spotted Nathan’s extremely well built example amongst the endless EVOs and GTRs. This was Nathan’s first attempt at time attack and we could clearly tell this is no one lap wonder build, Nathan told us his focus is running at endurance events. Although looking more like an open class car, Nathan was competing in the Pro Am class as the flat floor undertray deemed it ineligible. This car is no lightweight, tipping the scale at around 1500kg. The 2JZ engine retains the stock 3ltr displacement with forged rods and pistons. A dry sump has been added to handle the long distances it covers during track sessions. A low mounted Garrett GT35R at 25 pounds and E85 fuel pushes power to around 480kw or 650hp at ... -

I had only been to Sydney once many years ago and my excitement levels were off the scale to see Under Suzuka's Carbon S15. Missing the event every year it made me like a kid in a candy store. Also because I was shooting with my new GH4 for the day.
We flew in and caught the train and it made us feel quite backward with their cheap pricing and on time, double decker, seating arrangement changing... anyway,
Having caught a cab from the station, we arrived around the back entrance to Eastern creek to enter World Time Attack.
We walked underneath the track through a circular a tunnel which emerged at a marshaling area. It was awe inspiring to see the size of Eastern Creek and experiencing what was provided for the weekend of international Motorsport.
Music played loudly as time attack cars rocketed around the track shooting flames and creating a spectical for young and old to enjoy.
As we walked through and explored the many trade stands with sequential gearboxes and gigantic turbochargers and custom buit engines, we made our way up to the Low down event.
The cars were off the chain.
unfortunately we didn't get to see the final runs of the time attack cars due to track temps being waaay to hot and being pushed to the late afternoon. we had a plane to catch but we still get a lot of footage that i don't think you'll see anywhere else. cant wait for 2016 to get some more time attack footage!

HKS’s pièce de résistance R35 GTR has every available HKS part thrown into it. As the name suggest, the GT1000+ produces in excess of 1200hp and began life from a 4.1L stroked VR38 featuring reinforced components, matched with not 6 but 12 pieces of 575cc injectors to provide enough race juice for when twin GT1000 turbochargers introduce an atomic surge of boost at full chat.
he GT1000+ GTR won’t go far if not for the work that had gone into transmission engineering. The standard twin clutch box had been reworked with bigger and stronger gearset, ensuring the ‘box’s ability to withstand up to 1400hp.
Exterior and Aero wise, a huge part was contributed by BenSopra, where everything from the front and rear bumpers, diffusers and such were applied.
The HKS GT1000+ if you hadn’t already know runs on Advan full slicks and during the attack weekend, it was a classified as a demo contender. The TIMETOATTACK platform allows for Semi Slick tyres only. Even so, the sheer rarity and performance of the HKS GT1000+ GTR has inspired many at the fateful weekend, clocking in at an untouchable lap of 2:07.193!
It is no doubt the lowest lap time figure we’ve seen throughout the years of TIMETOATTACK and is one to be inspired from and perhaps see a worthy contender challenge it in the near future.

A not so common sight at world time attack in Sydney is the Toyota Supra. This year we spotted Nathan’s extremely well built example amongst the endless EVOs and GTRs. This was Nathan’s first attempt at time attack and we could clearly tell this is no one lap wonder build, Nathan told us his focus is running at endurance events.
Although looking more like an open class car, Nathan was competing in the Pro Am class as the flat floor undertray deemed it ineligible. This car is no lightweight, tipping the scale at around 1500kg.
The 2JZ engine retains the stock 3ltr displacement with forged rods and pistons. A dry sump has been added to handle the long distances it covers during track sessions. A low mounted Garrett GT35R at 25 pounds and E85 fuel pushes power to around 480kw or 650hp at the tyres through a TTI 6-speed sequential gearbox.
Large Brembo brakes and MCA coilovers are part of the many components that help Nathan point and brake this heavy Supra at speed.
The Supra performed well all weekend, and we have no doubt we’ll see it back here again.

That's right, this car is brand new and this is the second ever test session for South Australia's latest addition to Time Attack racing on the track at Mallala Motorsport Park. Matt Longhurst is a man on a mission and with good people like Matt from Developro and Cam (and the boys) from Solid Engineering, this car is now ready for the World Time Attack Challenge in a few weeks! The guys are all looking forward to being part of all the action and are sure to be a big hit during the event with and fans and the other teams.
