Continuing with my new "Why It Didn't Work" series I look at one of the biggest franchise killers ever Alien 3 (I know they made Resurrection after this but they would never recover after 3, AVP and Prometheus still prove that). Now I have to say that there is more to like than hate in Alien 3 because even a bad David Fincher film is better than most; but when you watch it you can not avoid noticing the massive script and production problems that plagued the film.

Crash landing on a barren penal-colony planet with an unwelcomed visitor in tow, Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) contends with a group of hardened convicts while using nothing but her wits to battle a terrifying new breed of alien. The sole survivor of her crashed escape pod, Ripley is rescued from the craft by the remaining inhabitants of Fiorina 161, a group of rapists and murders who chose to repent for their sins in deep space after the penal colony was officially decommissioned. When remaining warden Andrews (Brian Glover) announces Ripley's presence to the inmates, their spiritual leader, Dillon (Charles S. Dutton), begins to fear that her presence will stir up trouble. As a result, Ripley is placed in the care of prison doctor Clemens (Charles Dance), and restricted to the infirmary until a rescue ship arrives. But Ripley isn't the only new visitor on Fiorina 161; an alien stowaway survived the crash as well, and it has planted its seed in a feral dog. Before long, a new breed of alien has burst from the dog's chest, a stealthy hunter that moves on all fours and can navigate the darkened prison corridors virtually undetected. When the inmates start to disappear, the remaining survivors must fight for their lives without weapons to defend themselves. The only person who knows the alien well enough to beat it is Ripley, and while her plan to corner and kill the creature just might work, a horrifying discovery reveals that her fight is far from over.

Alien 3
Alien 3 (stylized as ALIEN3) is a 1992 American science-fiction horror film and the debut feature film of director David Fincher. The film is the third installment of the Alien film series. The film takes place after the events of Aliens (1986). An escape pod from the Colonial Marine spaceship Sulaco crash-lands on a prison-run refinery planet, killing everyone aboard except Lieutenant Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver). Unknown to Ripley, an Alien organism was also aboard the escape pod. The Alien organism begins a killing spree in the prison.
The film had a difficult production, with various screenwriters and directors getting involved in the project, and shooting began without a finished script. The film was the big-budget debut of a young David Fincher, who was brought into the project after a proposed version with Vincent Ward at the helm was cancelled well into pre-production. Fincher had little time to prepare, and the experience of making the film proved agonizing for him. Besides the need to shoot and rewrite the script simultaneously while fitting in sets that had already been built, filming was also plagued by incessant creative interference from studio executives, who overruled many of Fincher's decisions and dictated a large part of production. Fincher has since disowned the film, citing the aforementioned reasons. In 2003, a revised version of the film, known as the Assembly Cut, was released without Fincher's involvement.

Crash landing on a barren penal-colony planet with an unwelcomed visitor in tow, Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) contends with a group of hardened convicts while using nothing but her wits to battle a terrifying new breed of alien. The sole survivor of her crashed escape pod, Ripley is rescued from the craft by the remaining inhabitants of Fiorina 161, a group of rapists and murders who chose to repent for their sins in deep space after the penal colony was officially decommissioned. When remaining warden Andrews (Brian Glover) announces Ripley's presence to the inmates, their spiritual leader, Dillon (Charles S. Dutton), begins to fear that her presence will stir up trouble. As a result, Ripley is placed in the care of prison doctor Clemens (Charles Dance), and restricted to the infirmary until a rescue ship arrives. But Ripley isn't the only new visitor on Fiorina 161; an alien stowaway survived the crash as well, and it has planted its seed in a feral dog. Before long, a new breed of alien has burst from the dog's chest, a stealthy hunter that moves on all fours and can navigate the darkened prison corridors virtually undetected. When the inmates start to disappear, the remaining survivors must fight for their lives without weapons to defend themselves. The only person who knows the alien well enough to beat it is Ripley, and while her plan to corner and kill the creature just might work, a horrifying discovery reveals that her fight is far from over.

Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) falls back into a pit of lava in order to make sure the alien race does not live.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Crash landing on a barren penal-colony planet with an unwelcomed visitor in tow, Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) contends with a group of hardened convicts while using nothing but her wits to battle a terrifying new breed of alien. The sole survivor of her crashed escape pod, Ripley is rescued from the craft by the remaining inhabitants of Fiorina 161, a group of rapists and murders who chose to repent for their sins in deep space after the penal colony was officially decommissioned. When remaining warden Andrews (Brian Glover) announces Ripley's presence to the inmates, their spiritual leader, Dillon (Charles S. Dutton), begins to fear that her presence will stir up trouble. As a result, Ripley is placed in the care of prison doctor Clemens (Charles Dance), and restricted to the infirmary until a rescue ship arrives. But Ripley isn't the only new visitor on Fiorina 161; an alien stowaway survived the crash as well, and it has planted its seed in a feral dog. Before long, a new breed of alien has burst from the dog's chest, a stealthy hunter that moves on all fours and can navigate the darkened prison corridors virtually undetected. When the inmates start to disappear, the remaining survivors must fight for their lives without weapons to defend themselves. The only person who knows the alien well enough to beat it is Ripley, and while her plan to corner and kill the creature just might work, a horrifying discovery reveals that her fight is far from over.

What better game exists to commemorate the late H. R. Giger than the seminal classic Alien 3 for the SNES? Besides Dark Seed, but Retsupurae already did that one. Alien 3 [Super Nintendo] - Stage 1
When I was young, around five years old, I was home at my father's friend (who were a computer geek in the days of yore with all kinds of stuff) and he sat me down to play a game "Alien 3" it was called. That game utterly traumatized me, it gave me nightmares that in a way, still haunts me. Yet it grew into some sort of symbiotic relationship, those creatures and I. When I was 7-9 years and I found Alien 3 for Super Nintendo in the rental store, I begged my mother to rent it for me even though I knew it would freak me out. I have since then, played nearly every Alien game there is and I have a lot of Alien comics. When I was a kid, I even had a lot of the toys. When I was young, around five years old, I was home at my father's friend (who were a computer geek in the days of yore with all kinds of stuff) and he sat me down to play a game "Alien 3" it was called. That game utterly traumatized me, it gave me nightmares that in a way, still haunts me. Yet it grew into some sort of symbiotic relationship, those creatures and I. When I was 7-9 years and I found Alien 3 for Super Nintendo in the rental store, I begged my mother to rent it for me even though I knew it would freak me out.
I have since then, played nearly every Alien game there is and I have a lot of Alien comics. When I was a kid, I even had a lot of the toys. At one point in a toystore, I stumbled over this "Aliens vs Predator" toy, I never bought it but it was the first introduction for me to the Yautja - The Predators.
Many people did not like the Alien 3 movie but I happen to be quite fond of it, I think it was a great way to end the story of Ripley on. As for the games, there are four different versions of Alien 3. Alien 3 on Nintendo and Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) where your goal is to rescue all the prisoners before the time runs out and destroy Xenomorph 'Guardians', an odd breed of them. Alien 3 on Super Nintendo where you do a bunch of missions involving fuse boxes, junction boxes, welding doors, destroying eggs, rescuing prisoners and destroying larger Xenomorphs. Alien 3 on Game Boy where you turn on and turn off fans, and Alien 3 on Arcade where you just blast everything in sight.
This is Stage 1 out of 6 of the Super Nintendo version of Alien 3.
I question some of Ripley's logic on some of these missions.
