Sir Robert Graham Stephens (14 July 1931 – 12 November 1995) was a leading English actor in the early years of Britain's Royal National Theatre. He was one of the most respected actors of his generation and was at one time regarded as the natural successor to Laurence Olivier.
Stephens was born in Shirehampton, Bristol, Gloucestershire, in 1931. At age 18 he won a scholarship to Esme Church's Bradford Civic Theatre School, Yorkshire, (where he met his first wife Nora, a fellow student). His first professional engagement was with the Caryl Jenner Mobile Theatre, which he followed in 1951 by a year of more challenging parts in repertory at the Royalty Theatre, Morecambe, followed by seasons of touring and at the Hippodrome, Preston. The London director Tony Richardson saw a performance at the Royalty and this led to an offer of a place in the "momentous" first season of English Stage Company at the Royal Court in 1956. His success was assured.
His early films included A Taste of Honey (1961), Cleopatra (1963) and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1969) with his then wife Maggie Smith. There was also a minor role as Prince Escalus in Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet (1968), as well as a starring role in Billy Wilder's The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes (1970) and the science fiction film, The Asphyx (1973).

Sir Robert's career fell into two distinct parts. In the 60's, he was widely regarded as the heir of Laurence Olivier. But, after his departure from Britain's National Theatre in 1970 and the breakup of his marriage with Maggie Smith three years later, he suffered a slump made worse by heavy drinking. In the 90's, the Royal Shakespeare Company invited him to play first Falstaff in "Henry IV" and then Lear in "King Lear", and this re-established Stephens's career. He was knighted early in 1995.

Aerin Eliza Miller- Vocals Robert Stephens- Composer, Guitar, Bass Kevin Stephens- Drums Eric Albers- Engineer Lyrics: VI I’m hearing all the words you say Streams are tearing down your face There’s a bitter taste in the sound Of when you claim to leave this place Rescues you from all the shame All that’s left is hope underground PC Hold on, I’ll sing you a song Oh, oh just hold on V2 Thought we were a family Tell me why you’re hurting me Filling me with scars in the dark Tell me old familiar friend Is this where your conscience ends? Henry Morgan went from Royal Navy Admiral to enormously successful privateer/pirate. He lived a generation before the imagined life of James McGraw, originally a Royal Navy officer who also became a successful pirate, Captain Flint, in Robert Louis Stephenson's book "Treasure Island". Henry Morgan here is portayed by Robert Stephens in the film "Pirates of Tortuga" (1961). He is the father of Toby Stephens who plays Captain Flint (James McGraw) in the hit show "Black Sails". One could not help but notice the odd similarity! Music by Cinema Sounds/Swashbuckler from about 30:00 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHWAzBZ2hDA)
