The Cold Steel Gladius Machete is made in South Africa, it features a double-edged 19 inch blade of 1055 Carbon Steel, polypropylene handle, and Cordura sheath. Priced around $30. It looks like it was sharpened by hand on a grinding wheel, it arrived razor sharp. It is very balanced, not topheavy like a traditional machete. Fit and finish was rough, but it is an excellent item for the price.
NOTE: This machete is thinner and more flexible than a real Gladius sword would be. People have pointed out that a real Gladius is a thrusting weapon, this is true. If you like reviews of knives from Benchmade, Al Mar, Emerson, Spyderco, Fox, TOPS, BlackJack, and more, check out my newer vids.

Gladius (Latin: glădĭus) was one Latin word for sword (shorter than a spatha, or cavalry sword) and is used to represent the primary sword of Ancient Roman foot soldiers. Early ancient Roman swords were similar to those used by the Greeks. From the 3rd century BC, the Romans adopted swords similar to those used by the Celtiberians and others during the early part of the conquest of Hispania. This sword was known as the Gladius Hispaniensis, or "Hispanic Sword". It was thought that they were similar to the later Mainz types, but the evidence now suggests otherwise. Rather, these early blades followed a slightly different pattern, being longer and narrower, and were probably those that Polybius considered good for both cut and thrust. Later Gladii are referred to as the Mainz, Fulham, and Pompeii types. In the late Roman period, Publius Flavius Vegetius Renatus refers to swords called semispathae (or semispathia) and spathae, for both of which he appears to consider gladius an appropriate term.

DENVER (AP) - Summoned by the sound of screams, a Colorado woman raced to her front yard to find a terrifying sight. A mountain lion was hunched over her 5-year-old son, biting him. The woman charged the animal, yanked away one of its paws and discovered her son's whole head was in its mouth. She didn't back down.
