Exam­in­ing the events in and around 9/11 as an exten­sion of World War II, this broad­cast ana­lyzes those events in light of the the­o­ries of Karl Von Clause­witz (Pruss­ian mil­i­tary the­o­reti­cian) and Sun-Tzu (the ancient Chi­nese mil­i­tary the­o­reti­cian). In par­tic­u­lar, Von Clausewitz’s con­cept of “total war” is a pri­mary foun­da­tional ele­ment of the analy­sis pre­sented here. Begin­ning with dis­cus­sion of some of the eco­nomic ram­i­fi­ca­tions of what the Bush admin­is­tra­tion has done, the pro­gram exam­ines dire pre­dic­tions offered by for­mer Trea­sury Sec­re­tary Robert Rubin and the Inter­na­tional Mon­e­tary Fund. In addi­tion, the broad­cast reviews the eco­nomic impli­ca­tions of recent ter­ror alerts for the air­line busi­ness and for U.S. munic­i­pal­i­ties and states. (Recall that it is Mr. Emory’s view that the Bush admin­is­tra­tion is the point ele­ment of the Under­ground Reich in the United States, and that it has as its agenda the express goal of the polit­i­cal, phys­i­cal and/or eco­nomic sub­ju­ga­tion and/or destruc­tion of this coun­try. Many of the indi­vid­ual play­ers within the admin­is­tra­tion, as well as those who accede to its poli­cies, are moti­vated by greed and the desire to pur­sue global eco­nomic inter­ests in pur­suit of a world-wide ver­sion of Mussolini’s “Cor­po­rate State.” Oth­ers are con­scious fas­cist and Nazi agents. It is Mr. Emory’s view that Karl Rove is the pivot-point for the Under­ground Reich within the admin­is­tra­tion.) After exam­in­ing the eco­nomic and mil­i­tary dam­age done to the coun­try by the Bush admin­is­tra­tion and its Islam­o­fas­cist allies, the pro­gram exam­ines the Mus­lim Brotherhood’s Al Taqwa network.

Pro­gram High­lights Include: A report by the Army War Col­lege that faults the Bush administration’s pur­suit of the war on ter­ror as a strate­gic error of the same type made by Hitler in World War II; inves­ti­ga­tors’ exam­i­na­tion of the Riggs Bank (one of whose direc­tors is Jonathan Bush, the President’s uncle) and its appar­ent links to the 9/11 hijack­ers; links of the Mus­lim Brotherhood’s Bank Al Taqwa to the royal fam­ily of Liecht­en­stein; Al Taqwa founders Youssef Nada and Ali Galeb Himmat’s prop­a­ga­tion of six chil­dren within the United States; Mus­lim Broth­er­hood pen­e­tra­tion of domes­tic Mus­lim com­mu­ni­ties in the United States.

1. The first part of the pro­gram is a reca­pit­u­la­tion of some of the eco­nomic effects of the war on ter­ror. These are to be eval­u­ated in the con­text of Von Clausewitz’s con­cept of “total war.” For munic­i­pal­i­ties and states, the eco­nomic effects of the “war on ter­ror” have been very grave indeed. “For cash-strapped U.S. cities and states, this week’s height­ened national threat alert level has reignited con­cerns about costs along­side fears of a new ter­ror attack. From over­time for police offi­cers to extra patrols at key facil­i­ties and bor­ders, cities nation­wide must spend tens of mil­lions of dol­lars each week for the addi­tional secu­rity mea­sures, money some local offi­cials say they do not have.“

2. “It’s enor­mously frus­trat­ing,’ said Randy King, spokesman for the city of Har­ris­burg, Penn­syl­va­nia, a state cap­i­tal of 49,000 peo­ple near the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant. ‘All of it costs money, lots of money, and there’s no fed­eral reim­burse­ment,’ he said.” (Idem.)

3. “On Sun­day, the U.S. Depart­ment of Home­land Secu­rity raised the color-coded ter­ror alert level to ‘high’ orange from ‘ele­vated’ yellow—the fourth such move this year. Lift­ing the level trig­gers a raft of auto­matic addi­tional fed­eral secu­rity pre­cau­tions, and serves as a guide­line for cities and states. ‘We need to rec­og­nize that every time the gov­ern­ment ratch­ets up the threat level, we force the state and local gov­ern­ment offi­cials to make a choice,’ said ana­lyst David Hey­man at the Cen­ter for Strate­gic and Inter­na­tional Stud­ies.” (Idem.)

4. In FTR#407, we exam­ined the strug­gle between the Euro­pean Air­bus con­sor­tium and Boe­ing over the pric­ing of air­frames in dol­lars vs. Euros, as well as the impli­ca­tion of SARS for the air­line busi­ness. The recent ter­ror alerts have deep­ened the hem­or­rhag­ing expe­ri­enced by the air car­ri­ers. It will be inter­est­ing to see what the long-term results of this hem­or­rhag­ing will be. Will the Ger­man government-assisted Lufthansa ben­e­fit. Will the Air­bus con­sor­tium ben­e­fit? Will air­frames be priced in Euros? “The rash of hol­i­day flight can­cel­la­tions, secu­rity actions and ter­ror­ism warn­ings are going to com­pel many U.S. com­pa­nies to reassess whether to send employ­ees abroad in com­ing weeks, not only out of fear of attack but because of the incon­ve­nience of can­celed and delayed flights, busi­ness travel experts said Fri­day.“

5. “Kevin Mitchell, chair­man of the Busi­ness Travel Coali­tion, said book­ings could drop 10 to 15 per­cent after the lat­est inci­dents. That would be par­tic­u­larly bad news for the air­lines, which have lost busi­ness travelers—who usu­ally pay the high­est fares and account for a dis­pro­por­tion­ate share of air­lines’ profit—since the industry’s peak in the year 2000, well before the Sept. 11 attacks. Dwin­dling busi­ness travel was a big rea­son that the air­lines had their lowest-ever rev­enue last year.” (Idem.)

6. “Air­lines hope that inter­na­tional travel to the United States will rise 5 per­cent dur­ing 2004, to an esti­mated 42.2 mil­lion arrivals from abroad, accord­ing to the Travel Indus­try Asso­ci­a­tion, a trade group. That would have been the first increase since 2000. More­over, the car­ri­ers were par­tic­u­larly opti­mistic about the win­ter travel sea­son, which they expect to improve from last year, when book­ings were depressed by the SARS out­break and the loom­ing war with Iraq. But the industry’s out­look dimmed as more flights were can­celed Fri­day.” (Idem.)

7. “By Fri­day, seven flights bound for the United States had been can­celed, includ­ing three by British Air­lines, which also can­celed a sched­uled trip to Riyadh, Saudi Ara­bia, from Lon­don. The can­cel­la­tions were in addi­tion to jet escorts by mil­i­tary fighter planes within the United States, and the emer­gency land­ing of an Air France flight in New­found­land, where the plane, pas­sen­gers and bag­gage were searched.” (Idem.)

8. “The moves came a week after the gov­ern­ment ele­vated its ter­ror alert to high, rais­ing the prospect that an expected increase in travel between the United States and other coun­tries this year may be thwarted. ‘Quan­ti­fy­ing the effect on people’s will­ing­ness to fly, or the over­all cost to air­lines at this point is nearly impos­si­ble,’ said Chris Tarry, an ana­lyst in Lon­don.” (Idem.)

9. “But accord­ing to Robert Mann, Jr., an indus­try con­sul­tant in Port Wash­ing­ton, N.Y., the psy­cho­log­i­cal dam­age could not be dis­counted. ‘From an indus­try­wide level, this throws cold water on rev­enue growth,’ he said.” (Idem.)

10. In FTR#‘s 407, 412, 415 and 435, we exam­ined the fact that Grover Norquist and Karl Rove were the Repub­li­can Party’s point men for both the Islamist con­nec­tion to the GOP and for the dras­tic slash­ing of taxes. The poten­tially dev­as­tat­ing results from the eco­nomic poli­cies of this admin­is­tra­tion should be care­fully con­sid­ered. These poli­cies have been exe­cuted in tan­dem with the wag­ing of a war engen­dered in part by the very Islamists allied with the Norquist/Rove-sponsored Islamic Insti­tute. Bush is the only major world leader who has ever attempted to slash rev­enues while wag­ing w

ar. That this pol­icy can­not work is a “no-brainer.” It is Mr. Emory’s view that the goal of this polit­i­cal and eco­nomic gam­bit is the phys­i­cal and/or eco­nomic and/or polit­i­cal sub­ju­ga­tion and/or destruc­tion of the United States. “Pecu­nia nervus Belli.” (For more about the eco­nomic impli­ca­tions of 9/11, see—among other programs—FTR#‘s 344–346, 365–367, 372, 378, 396, 407, 412, 413, 415.) The pro­gram high­lights a col­umn by New York Times eco­nomic writer Paul Krug­man, in which he warns of the dan­ger fac­ing the US econ­omy. “Argentina retained the con­fi­dence of inter­na­tional investors almost to the end of the 1990’s. Ana­lysts shrugged off its large bud­get and trade deficits; business-friendly, free-market poli­cies would, they insisted, allow the coun­try to grow out of all that. But when con­fi­dence col­lapsed, that opti­mism proved fool­ish. Argentina, once a show­piece for the new world order, quickly became a byword for eco­nomic cat­a­stro­phe.“

11. “So what? Those of us who have sug­gested that the irre­spon­si­bil­ity of recent Amer­i­can pol­icy may pro­duce a sim­i­lar dis­as­ter have been dis­missed as shrill, even hys­ter­i­cal. (Hey, the market’s up, isn’t it?) But few would describe Robert Rubin, the leg­endary for­mer Trea­sury sec­re­tary, as hys­ter­i­cal: his abil­ity to stay calm in the face of crises, and reas­sure the mar­kets, was his great­est asset. And Mr. Rubin has for­mally joined the coali­tion of the shrill.” (Idem.)

12. “In a paper pre­sented over the week­end at the meet­ing of the Amer­i­can Eco­nomic Asso­ci­a­tion, Mr. Rubin and his co-authors—Peter Orszag of the Brook­ings Insti­tu­tion and Allan Sinai of Deci­sion Economics—argue along lines that will be famil­iar to reg­u­lar read­ers of this col­umn. The United States, they point, out, is cur­rently run­ning very large bud­get and trade deficits. Offi­cial pro­jec­tions that this deficit will decline over time aren’t based on ‘cred­i­ble assump­tions.’ Real­is­tic pro­jec­tions show a huge buildup of debt over the next decade, which will accel­er­ate once the baby boomers retire in large num­bers.” (Idem.)

13. “All of this is con­ven­tional stuff, if anath­ema to admin­is­tra­tion apol­o­gists, who insist, in flat defi­ance of the facts, that they have a ‘plan’ to cut the deficit in half. What’s new is what Mr. Rubin and his co-authors say about the con­se­quences. Rather than focus­ing on the grad­ual harm inflicted by deficits, they high­light the poten­tial for cat­a­stro­phe.” (Idem.)

14. ” ‘Sub­stan­tial ongo­ing deficits,’ they warn, ‘may severely and adversely affect expec­ta­tions and con­fi­dence, which in turn can gen­er­ate a self-reinforcing neg­a­tive cycle among the under­ly­ing fis­cal deficit, finan­cial mar­kets, and the real econ­omy. . . . The poten­tial costs and fall­out from such fis­cal and finan­cial dis­ar­ray pro­vide per­haps the strongest moti­va­tion for avoid­ing sub­stan­tial, ongo­ing bud­get deficits.’ In other words, do cry for us, Argentina: we may be head­ing down the same road. . . .” (Idem.)

15. The Inter­na­tional Mon­e­tary Fund is warn­ing of the grave con­se­quences of the Bush/Norquist/Rove eco­nomic poli­cies as well. “With its ris­ing bud­get deficit and bal­loon­ing trade imbal­ance, the United States is run­ning up a for­eign debt of such record-breaking pro­por­tions that it threat­ens the finan­cial sta­bil­ity of the global econ­omy, accord­ing to a report released Wednes­day by the Inter­na­tional Mon­e­tary Fund.“

16. “Pre­pared by a team of I.M.F. econ­o­mists, the report sounded a loud alarm about the shaky fis­cal foun­da­tion of the United States, ques­tion­ing the wis­dom of the Bush administration’s tax cuts and warn­ing that large bud­get deficits pose ‘sig­nif­i­cant risks’ not just for the United States but for the rest of the world. The report warns that the United States’ net finan­cial oblig­a­tions to the rest of the world could be equal to 40 per­cent of its total econ­omy within a few years—‘an unprece­dented level of exter­nal debt for a large indus­trial coun­try,’ accord­ing to the fund, that could play havoc with the value of the dol­lar and inter­na­tional exchange rates.” (Idem.)

17. “The dan­ger, accord­ing to the report, is that the United States’ vora­cious appetite for bor­row­ing could push up global inter­est rates and thus slow global invest­ment and eco­nomic growth. ‘Higher bor­row­ing costs abroad would mean that the adverse effects of U.S. fis­cal deficits would spill over into global invest­ment and out­put,’ the report said. . . .” (Idem.)

18. ” . . . But in the report, fund econ­o­mists warned that the long-term fis­cal out­look was far grim­mer, pre­dict­ing that under­fund­ing for Social Secu­rity and Medicare will lead to short­ages as high as $47 tril­lion over the next 70 years or nearly 500 per­cent of the cur­rent gross domes­tic prod­uct in the com­ing decades. . . .” (Idem.)

19. In order to fully grasp the nature of the sub­ver­sion that the Bush administration/Underground Reich fac­tion is under­tak­ing, the broad­cast high­lights Pruss­ian mil­i­tary the­o­reti­cian Karl Von Clausewitz’s the­o­ries on total war. (For more about Von Clause­witz, see FTR#‘s 366, 396, 441.) In his for­mu­la­tions about “total war,” Von Clause­witz advanced the notion that war, pol­i­tics and eco­nom­ics could be under­stood as ele­ments of a con­tin­uum. War is seen as an exten­sion of pol­i­tics and vice versa. By the same token, war and eco­nom­ics are inex­tri­ca­bly linked. As Tac­i­tus noted, “pecu­nia nervus belli”—“money is the sinew of war.” One should note that eco­nomic, polit­i­cal and mil­i­tary dis­in­te­gra­tion also pro­duce demor­al­iza­tion on the part of those who expe­ri­ence it. The effect of this morale on civic spirit and the will of pop­u­la­tions to endure adver­sity is an impor­tant con­sid­er­a­tion in the con­text of the wag­ing of war. “Karl Von Clausewitz–Prussian gen­eral whose writ­ings, espe­cially On War, advo­cated the con­cept of total war, in which all the enemy’s ter­ri­tory, prop­erty, and cit­i­zens are attacked. . . . By means of a lengthy dis­cus­sion of a vari­ety of sit­u­a­tions likely to con­front the mil­i­tary leader, Clause­witz tried to develop in his reader a the­o­ret­i­cally founded mil­i­tary judge­ment, capa­ble of weigh­ing all per­ti­nent fac­tors in a given sit­u­a­tion. He stated that strat­egy should aim at three main tar­gets; the enemy’s forces, his resources, and his will to fight. . . .“

20. ” . . .On War has had a pro­found influ­ence on mod­ern strate­gic con­cepts. Its most sig­nif­i­cant sin­gle con­tri­bu­tion is the doc­trine of polit­i­cal direc­tion in mil­i­tary mat­ters. In main­tain­ing that ‘war is noth­ing but a con­tin­u­a­tion of polit­i­cal inter­course with the admix­ture of dif­fer­ent means,’ he denied that war is an end in itself. . . . By the mid­dle of the 20th cen­tury, when new long-range weapons sys­tems had appeared, the sig­nif­i­cance of Clause­witz’ strate­gic con­cepts relat­ing exclu­sively to land war­fare declined although many of his basic ideas remained as valid as ever.” (Idem.)

21. The “bleed­ing of Amer­ica” insti­tuted by the Bush admin­is­tra­tion (which Mr. Emory views as the point ele­ment of the Under­ground Reich) extends to the mil­i­tary. A recent report pub­lished by the Army War Col­lege com­pares Bush’s over-extension of the Amer­i­can mil­i­tary to the strate­gic mis­takes made by the Ger­mans in the two World Wars. It is Mr. Emory’s view that the Under­ground Reich has accom­plished this as a mat­ter of delib­er­ate pol­icy. In al

l prob­a­bil­ity, how­ever, most of those who sanc­tioned the moves that led to this overex­ten­sion were act­ing out of greed, igno­rance, cyn­i­cism and stu­pid­ity, rather than as a mat­ter of con­scious sub­ver­sion. As dis­cussed in other pro­grams, it is Mr. Emory’s view that Karl Rove is the Mar­tin Bor­mann of the Bush White House—the point per­son for the Under­ground Reich. “A scathing new report pub­lished by the Army War Col­lege broadly crit­i­cizes the Bush administration’s han­dling of the war on ter­ror­ism, accus­ing it of tak­ing a detour into an ‘unnec­es­sary’ war in Iraq and pur­su­ing an ‘unre­al­is­tic’ quest against ter­ror­ism that may lead to U.S. wars with states that pose no seri­ous threat.“

22. “The report, by vis­it­ing U.S. Pro­fes­sor Jef­frey Record, who is on the fac­ulty of the Air War Col­lege at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala. Warns that as a result of those mis­takes, the Army is ‘near the break­ing point.’ It rec­om­mends, among other things, scal­ing back the scope of the ‘global war on ter­ror­ism’ and instead focus­ing on the nar­rower threat posed by the al Qaeda ter­ror­ist net­work.” (Idem.)

23. ” ‘The global war on ter­ror­ism as cur­rently defined and waged is dan­ger­ously indis­crim­i­nate and ambi­tious, and accord­ingly . . . its para­me­ters should be read­justed,’ Record writes. The anti-terrorism cam­paign ‘is strate­gi­cally unfo­cused, promises more than it can deliver, and threat­ens to dis­si­pate U.S. mil­i­tary resources in an end­less and hope­less search for absolute secu­rity,’ he said. . . .” (Idem.)

24. ” . . . But retired Army Col. Dou­glas Lovelace, the direc­tor of the Strate­gic Stud­ies Insti­tute whose Web site car­ries Record’s 56-page mono­graph, hardly dis­tanced him­self from it. ‘I think that the sub­stance that Jeff brings out in the arti­cle really, really needs to be con­sid­ered,’ he said.” (Idem.)

25. “Pub­li­ca­tion of the essay was approved by the Army War College’s com­man­dant, Maj. Gen. David Huntoon, Lovelace said. He said he and Huntoon expected the study to be con­tro­ver­sial, but added, ‘He con­sid­ers it to be under the umbrella of aca­d­e­mic free­dom.’ Larry DiRita, the top Pen­ta­gon spokesman, said he had not read the Record study. He added: ‘If the con­clu­sion is that we need to be scal­ing back in the global war on ter­ror­ism, it’s not likely to be on my read­ing list any­time soon.’” (Idem.)

26. “Many of Record’s argu­ments, such as the con­tention that Sad­dam Hussein’s Iraq was deterred and did not present a threat, have been made before by crit­ics of the admin­is­tra­tion. Iraq, he con­cludes, ‘was a war-of-choice dis­trac­tion from the war of neces­sity against’ al Qaeda. But it is unusual to have such views pub­lished by the War Col­lege, the Army’s pre­mier aca­d­e­mic insti­tu­tion.” (Idem.)

27. “In addi­tion, the essay goes fur­ther than many crit­ics in exam­in­ing the Bush administration’s han­dling of the war on ter­ror­ism. Record’s core crit­i­cism is that the admin­is­tra­tion is bit­ing off more than it can chew. He likens the scale of U.S. ambi­tions in the war on ter­ror­ism to Hitler’s over­reach in World War II. ‘A car­di­nal rule of strat­egy is to keep your ene­mies to a man­age­able num­ber,’ he writes. ‘Thee Ger­mans were defeated in two world wars . . . because their strate­gic ends out­ran their avail­able means.’ [Ital­ics are Mr. Emory’s]” (Idem.)

28. It is Mr. Emory’s view that Wes­ley Clark rep­re­sents an ele­ment of the Amer­i­can power elite that is gen­uinely patri­otic and strives to see the U.S. sur­vive and pros­per. In all prob­a­bil­ity, Gen­eral Clark (a man who has spent his entire life in the ser­vice of his coun­try) is moti­vated by sin­cere, intel­li­gent patri­o­tism. “Demo­c­ra­tic pres­i­den­tial can­di­date Wes­ley Clark on Mon­day blamed ‘bad lead­er­ship’ by Pres­i­dent Bush for the nation’s height­ened terrorism-alert sta­tus, say­ing it was a ‘strate­gic mis­take’ to shift resources to Iraq from the hunt for Osama bin Laden in Pak­istan and Afghanistan. ‘A wise lead­er­ship would not have put us into Iraq at this time,’ Clark told reporters after serv­ing hot meals at Manna House, a non-profit agency. ‘Instead we’d have con­cen­trated on Osama bin Laden. . . .“

29. Embody­ing the struc­tural eco­nomic rela­tion­ships between the Bush admin­is­tra­tion and the Saudi and Mid­dle East­ern Arab financiers of Al Qaeda, the Riggs Bank is now a focal point of inves­ti­ga­tion by 9/11 inves­ti­ga­tors. (As dis­cussed in FTR#431, Jonathan Bush—uncle of the seated President—is a direc­tor of the Riggs Bank. Riggs Bank appears to have been a repos­i­tory of finances directed to 9/11 con­spir­a­tors. For more about Jonathan Bush, see also: “Bush-linked Com­pany Han­dled Secu­rity for the WTC, Dulles and United” by Margie Burns; Prince George’s Jour­nal [Mary­land]; 2/4/2003) “A U.S. fed­eral bank­ing reg­u­la­tors look­ing into the Saudi Ara­bian embassy’s bank accounts are exam­in­ing numer­ous trans­ac­tions, total­ing tens of mil­lions of dol­lars in cash, that weren’t prop­erly reported, accord­ing to doc­u­ments and inter­views with lawyers and reg­u­la­tors. While the U.S. inves­ti­ga­tion into the Saudi accounts was pre­vi­ously known, the dis­cov­er­ies at Riggs National Corp., show it is far broader than pre­vi­ously dis­closed. When the inquiry began in 2002, it focused on only a few thou­sand dol­lars thought to be indi­rectly related to the Sept. 11, 2001, ter­ror­ist attacks. Now, inves­ti­ga­tors are try­ing to account for mil­lions of dol­lars in hard-to-trace cash.“

30. “Riggs repeat­edly failed in 2001 and 2002 to file suspicious-activity reports related to cash trans­ac­tions in the low tens of mil­lions of dol­lars in Saudi accounts, said peo­ple famil­iar with the mat­ter. While the basics of the large cash trans­ac­tions were reported, the Trea­sury Department’s Office of the Comp­trol­ler of the Cur­rency accused the bank of fail­ing to ana­lyze the trans­ac­tions for sus­pi­cious char­ac­ter­is­tics, as money-laundering rules require. In July, after the trans­ac­tions were dis­cov­ered, Trea­sury imposed unusu­ally strin­gent con­trols and changes on the Wash­ing­ton bank hold­ing com­pany, accord­ing to inves­ti­ga­tors. . . .” (Idem.)

31. ” . . . Before Sept. 11, U.S. offi­cials often turned a blind eye to the pref­er­ence of many wealthy Saudis for car­ry­ing cash. 35. A very sig­nif­i­cant detail con­cerns the fact that Nada employed Sulaiman Abdul Aziz al-Rajhi. In turn, Nada and his asso­ciates Barz­inji and al-Talib worked for the SAAR foun­da­tion, inti­mately con­nected to the Repub­li­can eth­nic out­reach orga­ni­za­tion and the Islamic Insti­tute. Other clients of al-Taqwa included sev­eral mem­bers of the Bin Laden fam­ily, includ­ing broth­ers and sis­ters of Usama. As Akida Bank’s direc­tor, Nada rather amaz­ingly employed one Sulaiman Abdul Aziz al-Rajhi: one of the Saudi broth­ers behind SAAR. So Al-Rajhi, with his leg­endary riches, worked for Nada. Yet Nada worked for Barz­inji and al-Talib, who in turn worked for al-Rajhi’s char­ity, the SAAR Foun­da­tion. Are you good and con­fused? That’s the gen­eral idea.” (Ibid.; p. 311.)

The net­work, a group of Mus­lim char­i­ties and com­pa­nies based in Vir­ginia, is believed to have ties in two Euro­pean tax havens, Switzer­land and Liecht­en­stein.” (Idem.)

38. “In an affi­davit filed in sup­port of Biheiri’s deten­tion, spe­cial agent David Kane accused him of pos­si­bly fun­nel­ing $3.7 mil­lion from the Vir­ginia char­i­ties to ter­ror­ists through his New Jersey-based real estate invest­ment com­pany, BMI. Kane also alleged that he had busi­ness and per­sonal rela­tion­ships with Hamas leader Moussa Abu Mar­zook, sus­pected Al Qaeda and Hamas backer Yassin Qadi and Sami Al-Arian, a Florida uni­ver­sity pro­fes­sor indicted for his alleged lead­er­ship posi­tion in Pales­tin­ian Islamic Jihad. . . .” (Idem.)

39. One of the most impor­tant con­nec­tions illus­trated in this arti­cle is the evi­den­tiary trib­u­tary con­nect­ing the Bank Al Taqwa and the royal fam­ily of Liecht­en­stein. Liecht­en­stein is one of the prin­ci­pal “funny money” cen­ters of Europe, and a major pivot point for the Bor­mann orga­ni­za­tion. This infor­ma­tion should be eval­u­ated against the back­ground of the infor­ma­tion pre­sented in FTR#‘s 357, 359, 377, 378. Those broad­casts high­light the inter­sec­tion between the Al Taqwa milieu and Euro­pean far-right inter­ests, includ­ing the P-2 and Alleanza Nationale milieu in Italy. These links with pow­er­ful Euro­pean cap­i­tal inter­ests and far-right net­works indi­cate that there is much more going on here than just Islamic fun­da­men­tal­ism. ” . . . The pros­e­cu­tion also alleged

that Biheiri is linked to a secre­tive finan­cial net­work in Switzer­land and Liecht­ensstein called Al Taqwa, which Amer­i­can and Euro­pean inves­ti­ga­tors say is a finan­cial backer of the Mus­lim Broth­er­hood. The Broth­er­hood, often depicted as the ide­o­log­i­cal par­ent of most rad­i­cal Islamic groups, recently has come under gov­ern­ment scrutiny for its pos­si­ble direct role in sup­port­ing ter­ror­ism, most promi­nently because of Al Taqwa.” (Ibid.; p. 2)

40. “The Bush admin­is­tra­tion and the United Nations have des­ig­nated the Al Taqwa net­work and its main officials—two self-avowed Mus­lim Broth­ers and an admit­ted Nazi sympathizer—as sup­port­ers of Al Qaeda. As a result, their assets have been frozen and they are the focus of a Swiss inves­ti­ga­tion. The Al Taqwa offi­cials have repeat­edly rejected the charges. At the Biheiri deten­tion hear­ing last month, pros­e­cu­tor Steven Ward described Biheiri as the Mus­lim Brotherhood’s ‘finan­cial toe­hold in the U.S.’” (Idem.)

41. “The pros­e­cu­tion said it had estab­lished links between Biheiri and the two prin­ci­pals of Al Taqwa, Youssef Nada and Ghaleb Him­mat. Accord­ing to tes­ti­mony from spe­cial agent Kane of the Bureau of Immi­gra­tion and Cus­toms Enforce­ment, the addresses of Nada and Him­mat were found in Biheiri’s lap­top com­puter. Kane told the court that there were ‘other indi­ca­tions’ of con­nec­tions between al Taqwa and Biheiri’s com­pany BMI, includ­ing finan­cial trans­ac­tions. . . .” (Idem.)

42. “. . . One com­pany in the Al Taqwa galaxy that was des­ig­nated by the United States and the U.N. as a terrorist-related entity is a Liecht­en­stein entity called Asat Trust. Its direc­tor Mar­tin Wachter, told the For­ward this year that Asat Trust oper­ates merely as a reg­istry for busi­nesses and is not involved in the oper­a­tion of any com­pany. He added that the Amer­i­can gov­ern­ment had wrong­fully des­ig­nated Asat Trust as a terrorist-related entity because it had once rep­re­sented Al Taqwa in a small real estate deal in Switzer­land.” (Ibid.; pp. 2–3.)

43. “Still, copies of busi­ness reg­is­tra­tion doc­u­ments on file with author­i­ties in Liecht­en­stein show that Asat Trust has been inti­mately involved with the Al Taqwa net­work dur­ing the last 30 years, reg­is­ter­ing changes in com­pany names, per­son­nel and finan­cial struc­ture, which may explain why Asat Trust landed on the Amer­i­can and U.N. ter­ror­ist lists.” (Ibid.; p. 3.)

44. The infor­ma­tion about the Al Taqwa links with the royal fam­ily of Liecht­en­stein are set forth as fol­lows: “The records also shed light on the involve­ment of one mem­ber of the royal fam­ily of Liecht­en­stein in Asat Trust. Accord­ing to the doc­u­ments, deceased Prince Emanuel von und zu Liecht­en­stein became a board mem­ber of Asat Trust in May 1970 and stayed until Novem­ber 1990, when he was replaced by Wachter, the trust’s cur­rent direc­tor. Flo­rian Krenkel, a spokesman for the royal fam­ily, said Prince Emmanuel had died in 1987 and that he was a dis­tant cousin from rul­ing Prince Hans Adam II. . . .” (Idem.)

45. ” . . . There also appears to be some links between Asat Trust and a bank owned by the Liecht­en­stein royal fam­ily. Sev­eral Asat Trust doc­u­ments fea­ture on their let­ter­heads ‘Bank in Liecht­en­stein AG’ beneath ‘Asat Trust.’ The royal fam­ily bank has changed its name and is now called LGT bank. A tele­phone and an e-mail query to the bank’s spokesman Hans-Martin Uehringer went unre­turned.” (Idem.)

46. “Biheiri’s wife told fed­eral agents in may 2002 that her hus­band had left the United States in mid-2002 to work for the ‘Liecht­en­stein bank’ in Switzer­land, accord­ing to the sworn tes­ti­mony of spe­cial agent Kane. Biheiri him­self told Kane that his job at the bank con­sisted of ‘invest­ment bank­ing with high net worth clients and included sig­nif­i­cant travel between Egypt and Saudi Ara­bia,’ accord­ing to the affi­davit.” (Idem.)

47. “Biheiri was famil­iar with Switzer­land before mov­ing to the United States in 1985. He earned a master’s degree in eco­nom­ics from the Uni­ver­sity of Freiburg in Switzer­land and worked for a Swiss bank, accord­ing to a tran­script of a depo­si­tion he made at a sep­a­rate trial. Fur­ther­more, in 1984 he set up and presided over an Islamic and Arab stu­dent group in Zurich, accord­ing to Swiss record obtained by the For­ward. Biheiri dis­solved the asso­ci­a­tion in July 2002, the records show.” (Ibid.; p. 4.)

48. “In March 1986, he founded BMI, a Secau­cus, N.J.-based invest­ment bank spe­cial­iz­ing in real estate invest­ments, accord­ing to copies of New Jer­sey cor­po­rate records pro­vided to the For­ward by the Inves­tiga­tive Project, a Washington-based ter­ror­ist watch­dog spe­cial­ized in Mus­lim groups.” (Idem.)

49. “Pros­e­cu­tors con­tend that BMI and its affil­i­ates received $3.7 mil­lion between 1992 and 1998 from the Amer­i­can branch of the Inter­na­tional Islamic Relief Orga­ni­za­tion, or IIRO, which is located in the Vir­ginia area where the SAAR net­work build­ings were raided by fed­eral agents in March 2002. The IIRO is a major Saudi char­ity that has been sus­pected by the United States of links to Hamas, Gamaa Islamiya and Osama bin Laden at least since 1996, accord­ing to a copy of a CIA report from that year obtained by the For­ward. IIRO offi­cials have con­sis­tently denied ter­ror­ist links.” (Idem.)

50. “Al Taqwa also appears to have some links to the SAAR net­work. Two oper­a­tives from SAAR-related com­pa­nies and char­i­ties, Jamal Barz­inji and Hisham al Talib, were board mem­bers of one of the network’s com­pa­nies in Liecht­en­stein dur­ing the mid-1970’s, accord­ing to incor­po­ra­tion records. . . .” (Idem.)

51. One of the most star­tling rev­e­la­tions con­tained in this arti­cle con­cerns the appar­ent sir­ing of six chil­dren by the Al Taqwa founders in the United States! An edu­cated guess would be that they were in the coun­try work­ing on the Mus­lim Brotherhood’s recruit­ment of fight­ers to go to Afghanistan to fight the Sovi­ets. The devel­op­ment of the anti-Soviet muja­hadin appears to have set the stage for the incu­ba­tion of an anti-U.S. muja­hadin, cour­tesy of the Mus­lim Broth­er­hood. ” . . . There are also indi­ca­tions that both Nada and Him­mat, the Al Taqwa prin­ci­pals who today live in an Ital­ian enclave bor­der­ing Switzer­land and have acquired Ital­ian cit­i­zen­ship, spent time in the United States in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. Accord­ing to a trans­lated copy of a 1996 Ital­ian intel­li­gence report, they each had three chil­dren born in the United States—five of them born in Sil­ver Spring, Md., between 1979 and 1984.” (Idem.)

52. An omi­nous devel­op­ment con­cerns the infil­tra­tion of the Mus­lim Broth­er­hood into the U.S. and its appar­ent abil­ity to forge bonds with domes­tic Mus­lim pop­u­la­tions in this coun­try. This point will be dis­cussed at greater length below. Note, for the pur­poses of present dis­cus­sion, Yous­suf Al Qaradawi, a prin­ci­pal direc­tor of Al Taqwa. Biheiri was an asso­ciate of Al Qaradawi. ” . . . Accord­ing to the Kane affi­davit, Biheiri also had rela­tions with a promi­nent Egypt­ian reli­gious leader from the Mus­lim Broth­er­hood called Sheikh Yous­souf Qaradawi. He acknowl­edged host­ing him dur­ing when the sheikh vis­ited Amer­ica sev­eral years ago, accord­ing to the affi­davit. Now liv­ing in Qatar, Qaradawi has been barred from enter­ing Amer­ica since Novem­ber 1999 because of his alleged sup­port for ter­ror­ism. He has issued fat­was sup­port­ing sui­cide bomb­ings in Israel and attacks on Amer­i­can troops in Iraq, accord­ing to doc­u­ments pro­duced by the Biheiri trial.” (Ibid.; p. 5.)

53. “Qaradawi is listed as one of the share­hold­ers of the Bahamas branch of Al Taqwa bank, accord­ing to a copy of a 1999 list of share­hold­ers in pos­ses­sion of the For­ward. This Branch shut down in April 2001. Press reports said the clo­sure was the result of Jor­dan­ian, French and Amer­i­can intel­li­gence reports which affirmed that Al Qaeda money com­ing from Kuwait and the United Arab Emi­rates had been chan­neled through Al Taqwa. . . .” (Idem.)

54. In FTR#‘s 381, 386, 439 we exam­ined the inroads made by the Islamofas

cist Mus­lim Broth­er­hood within the United States. That topic is fur­ther devel­oped here. The impli­ca­tions of hav­ing an orga­ni­za­tion like this oper­at­ing in the United States is one to be care­fully con­sid­ered. Numer­ous broad­casts have dis­cussed an Under­ground Reich Fifth Col­umn in the United States com­posed of domes­tic allies of the Under­ground Reich in addi­tion to Islamofascist/Muslim Broth­er­hood ele­ments. It appears that the inroads the Broth­er­hood has made here may be paving the way for seri­ous recruit­ment of U.S. Mus­lims to their cause. “One after­noon, Mustafa Saied, a junior at the Uni­ver­sity of Ten­nessee, was sum­moned by a friend to a nearly empty cam­pus cafe­te­ria. The two set­tled them­selves in a quiet cor­ner, and Mr. Saied’s friend invited him to join the Mus­lim Broth­er­hood. ‘Every­thing I had learned pointed to the Mus­lim Broth­er­hood being an awe­some thing, the elite move­ment,’ says Mr. Saied of his ini­ti­a­tion in 1994. ‘I can­not tell you the feel­ing that I felt—awesome power.’” (“A Stu­dent Jour­neys Into a Secret Cir­cle of Extrem­ism” by Paul M. 55. “On that day in Knoxville, Mr. Saied entered a secre­tive com­mu­nity that was slowly build­ing a ros­ter of young men com­mit­ted to spread­ing fun­da­men­tal­ist Islam in the U.S. A move­ment launched 75 years ago in Egypt, the Mus­lim Broth­er­hood has inspired ter­ror­ist acts, as well as social reform through­out the Mid­dle East and has chap­ters in some Euro­pean nations. Until recently, law-enforcement offi­cials saw lit­tle evi­dence that the orga­ni­za­tion was active in the U.S. . . .” (Idem.)

56. Mr. Saied’s encoun­ters included com­ing in con­tact with Al Taqwa’s Al Qaradawi. ” . . . Like many activist Mus­lim stu­dents, Mr. Saied belonged to an Islamic study group. His often focused on the writ­ings of Youssef Al Qaradawi, an Egypt­ian cleric based in Qatar who is a lead­ing fig­ure in the Mus­lim Broth­er­hood move­ment. Sheik Qaradawi is known among many Mus­lims as rel­a­tively mod­er­ate on such issues as rela­tions with the West, while endors­ing what he calls ‘mar­tyr­dom oper­a­tions’ against Israel and Jews. . . .” (Ibid.; p. A8.)

57. “Today, the Broth­er­hood remains an active, con­tro­ver­sial orga­ni­za­tion work­ing within the polit­i­cal sys­tems of some Arab coun­tries. Its vio­lent off­shoots include the fac­tion that assas­si­nated Egypt­ian Pres­i­dent Anwar Sadat in 1981 and the Pales­tin­ian ter­ror­ist orga­ni­za­tions Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Another out­growth of the Broth­er­hood, Egypt­ian Islamic jihad, is led by Osama bin Laden’s top lieu­tenant, Ayman al-Zawahiri, who merged his orga­ni­za­tion into the al Qaeda net­work in 1998. In the U.S., the Broth­er­hood has not oper­ated openly. But fed­eral pros­e­cu­tors say they are inves­ti­gat­ing whether Broth­er­hood mem­bers who arrived in the U.S. decades ago have used busi­nesses and char­i­ties here to raise and laun­der money for ter­ror­ism abroad. . . .” (Idem.)

58. ” . . . In Decem­ber 1995, Mr. Saied attended another Mus­lim Arab Youth Asso­ci­a­tion con­fer­ence at a hotel in Toledo, Ohio, Sheik Qaradawi, the cleric affil­i­ated with the Mus­lim Broth­er­hood, gave a speech later tran­scribed and trans­lated by the Inves­tiga­tive Project, a terrorism-research group based in Wash­ing­ton. Islam will ‘over­come all the reli­gions’ and dom­i­nate the world, the sheik told his audi­ence of sev­eral hun­dred peo­ple.” (Idem.)

59. “He quoted Islamic texts as say­ing ‘You shall con­tinue to fight the Jews, and they will fight you, until the Mus­lims will kill them. And the Jew will hide behind the stone and the tree, and the stone and the tree will say, ‘Oh, ser­vant of Allah, Oh, Mus­lim, this is a Jew behind me. Come and kill him!’ The res­ur­rec­tion will not come before this hap­pens.” (Idem.)

60. Next, the pro­gram reviews an item from FTR#439. Al Taqwa’s Al-Qardawi has also been involved with the estab­lish­ment of a mosque in Boston. “The Islamic orga­ni­za­tion poised to build the largest mosque in the North­east on a site in Rox­bury has long-standing ties to an Egypt­ian cleric who praises sui­cide bomb­ings and a Mus­lim activist indicted last week in a ter­ror­ism financ­ing probe. The Islamic Soci­ety of Boston, which has city approval to build a sprawl­ing $22 mil­lion Islamic cul­tural cen­ter and mosque on Mal­colm X Boule­vard, has had a long asso­ci­a­tion with Dr. Yusuf Abdul­lah al-Qaradawi, whose vocal sup­port of the Pales­tin­ian ter­ror­ist group Hamas prompted the State Depart­ment to bar him from enter­ing the U.S. four years ago.“

62. Con­sider the sit­u­a­tion of the U.S. in recent years, in light of what is to fol­low. Imag­ine, also, that this is what the Under­ground Reich is doing and intends to do to the United States. It is Mr. Emory’s con­sid­ered opin­ion that this is in fact the case. (As dis­cussed in FTR#‘s 290, 291, 426, 427, 428, the real­ity of con­tem­po­rary world pol­i­tics involves an “Under­ground Japan­ese Empire” as well. As noted in—among other broadcasts—FTR#‘s 356, 357, 376, 390, 415, 423, 433, 435, the milieu of SAAR and the other objects of the Green Quest raids sig­nif­i­cantly over­laps the GOP’s eth­nic out­reach orga­ni­za­tion and the Bush admin­is­tra­tion. The fact that ele­ments of the Al Qaeda milieu appear to have been involved in West­ern intel­li­gence covert oper­a­tions in the Balkans, in addi­tion to the GOP ethnic/Green Quest con­nec­tion may well account for the hos­tile inter­est in the inves­ti­ga­tors of Oper­a­tion Green Quest, includ­ing Rita Katz, A.K.A. “Anony­mous.” “The CIA was inves­ti­gat­ing me and the SAAR inves­ti­ga­tors from Green Quest and Cus­toms. The CIA and the FBI inves­ti­gated every­one who had any­thing to do with the SAAR inves­ti­ga­tion. White vans and SUV’s with dark win­dows appeared near all the homes of the SAAR inves­ti­ga­tors. All agents, some of whom were very expe­ri­enced with sur­veil­lance, knew they were being fol­lowed. So was I. I felt that I was being fol­lowed every­where and watched at home, in the super­mar­ket, on the way to work . . . and for what? . . .“

One of the ques­tions they were all asked was whether they’d leaked mate­r­ial to me. 68. “Risk­ing crit­i­cism for being unfound­edly para­noid, I must con­vey my the­ory about the inves­ti­ga­tion and CIA’s involve­ment in it, I don’t know for cer­tain what’s the deal with the CIA inves­ti­gat­ing the SAAR inves­ti­ga­tors, but it sure feels as if some­one up in that agency doesn’t like the idea that the Saudi Ara­bian boat is rocked. The raids on 555 had taken place already—the CIA couldn’t change that—but inves­ti­gat­ing and giv­ing the peo­ple behind the raids a hard time is a most effi­cient way of mak­ing sure the SAAR inves­ti­ga­tion stops there. Which, come to think of it, may be the rea­son the gov­ern­ment looks so unfa­vor­ably on the law­suit filed by 9–11 vic­tims’ fam­i­lies against sev­eral Saudi enti­ties and indi­vid­u­als, accus­ing them of fund­ing ter­ror­ism and seek­ing dam­ages.” (Idem.)
