Applause is a 1929 black-and-white backstage musical film, shot during the early years of sound films. It is very notable as one of the few films of its time to break free from the restrictions of sound technology. Based on a novel by Beth Brown, the film was staged and directed by Rouben Mamoulian.
The film stars Helen Morgan, Joan Peers and Fuller Mellish, Jr. Mae West was originally considered for the part of Kitty Darling, but the studio decided Morgan's glamorous stage presence would undercut the tackier aspects of the storyline.
The National Board of Review named Applause one of the 10 best films of 1929.
In 2006, Applause was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
The film tells of Kitty Darling (Helen Morgan), a burlesque star, who sends her young daughter to a convent to get her away from the sleazy burlesque environment she is involved in.
Many years later, Kitty is not doing so well and her best days are behind her. She's now an alcoholic who lives in the past. She lives with a burlesque comic named Hitch (Fuller Mellish Jr.). Hitch cheats on her and only cares about spending what little money she has. When he finds out she has been paying for her daughter's convent education for over a decade, he pushes her into bringing April back home.

Timbuktu has had very, very strong humanist values for centuries and it was thus a shame that people came to impose their vision. So cinema can do this job, it can force itself to fight against violence, to fight against barbarism, to fight against the negation of others. Because a culture was targeted to be destroyed in a way. For me, I have played my role as a filmmaker and that is perfectly normal."

It took time because this movie was almost everywhere in the world but it was not reaching Africa in a strong way and tonight, believe me, I have never been so moved, overwhelmed and touched. So for me, this screening is a victory in itself.
"I think I have tried to play my role and that is to resist, that is to denounce barbaric actions in all their shapes. Timbuktu has had very, very strong humanist values for centuries and it was thus a shame that people came to impose their vision. So cinema can do this job, it can force itself to fight against violence, to fight against barbarism, to fight against the negation of others. Because a culture was targeted to be destroyed in a way. For me, I have played my role as a filmmaker and that is perfectly normal."

It took time because this movie was almost everywhere in the world but it was not reaching Africa in a strong way and tonight, believe me, I have never been so moved, overwhelmed and touched. So for me, this screening is a victory in itself.
"I think I have tried to play my role and that is to resist, that is to denounce barbaric actions in all their shapes. Timbuktu has had very, very strong humanist values for centuries and it was thus a shame that people came to impose their vision. So cinema can do this job, it can force itself to fight against violence, to fight against barbarism, to fight against the negation of others. Because a culture was targeted to be destroyed in a way. For me, I have played my role as a filmmaker and that is perfectly normal."

Here's today's workout...It is a HIIT workout that is around 24 Minutes to complete. I did this workout in my Krav Maga class and everyone loved it, so I thought I would share it with you too! I am wearing a pair of compression socks during this workout and I explain all the reasons why they are so great at the beginning of this video. I will also post the link below so you can get a pair!
Here's the workout breakdown: Make sure you do as many reps as you can during the time of work. You will continue to burn calories for the next 24-36 hours. You will need a jump rope, interval timer, and a mat.

I am presenting to you the Billion Applause concert, held on January 7 and 8, 1984, at Taiwan's Taipei China Stadium, by our beloved Teresa Teng, with lyrics, pinyin and full English translation. To eliminate the on-screen lyric errors in many songs on the source DVD, I have edited the entire DVD but added three separate video clips which have the correct on-screen lyrics. Please forgive if my English translation is far from perfect. Inserting the English subtitle is my small wish to introduce Teresa Teng to new fans outside her Asian fan base. This video took over 100 hours to complete.

Kim Dong Chul, 62, was arrested in North Korea in October and admitted to stealing military secrets and plotting subversion with South Koreans, the North's official news agency reported ...
