One of the benefits to taking the leap from a homestead to an actual farm business is that you generally will be able to take advantage of some tax breaks.
In our state of CT, farmers get a few different tax cuts that we take advantage of. In this video we discuss 2 ways we save over $1000 every year on our tax bill because of farming.
FIRST.. We are exempt from the 6% Sales tax CT has when purchasing farm goods (feed, supplies, materials, etc). We spend a lot of money on feed, building materials, and animals supplies, so this little 6% tax savings adds up to hundreds of dollars every year!
Second... We save on our property tax through the PA 490 program.
Every acre you own is generally taxed through your state property tax program. Farmers generally get a discount on what they pay per acre owned for their properties.
If your thinking about starting your own farm business, be sure to contact an accountant to help you know where to look for tax breaks for your own farm business. The more money you get to keep in your wallet, the more you can spend on new animals and barns!

Write out your thoughts as you answer the following questions:
What will be the primary use you have for the property- immediate and long-term? What is your purpose in buying it?
Are you looking for a presumed permanent stay, or are you buying for an interim period? Maybe only for weekend recreation? For retirement?
Assuming you have determined a budget and allocated a certain amount for this new home and property, what price range are you comfortable with?Are you able to pay cash for the property? Do not forget that taxes and insurance will be added costs associated with your purchase.
How much acreage can you physically manage?
In what area will you look for acreage? Give careful thought to the commute: to and from work, school, place of worship, areas of interest,etc. What is the proximity to your friends and family members? Is there enough shopping and available services in the surrounding area to supply your needs?
Topography is important as it pertains to construction and accessibility. Personal preferences vary and the usefulness of all of your acreage maybe affected. Some love the views. Others can't stand to be stranded in the winter storm. What is the access you will have to your property-does it suffice?
If you can find a parcel with a peaceful spring or creek flowing,or a pond to fish, woods for hunting/ hiking, or pasture for an animal or two, is that of additional interest to you?
Restrictions... know what restrictions you consider tolerable and protective, and which ones you would prefer to avoid. For instance,will you be allowed to construct the home you want on your property now or in the future? Are your pets or animals welcome according to the declaration of restrictions associated with your desired property? What about business activity at your home?
If you need to sell the property in the future: consider the saleability of the property you wish to buy.
Look over your notes and visualize again what your dream property may look like. Try to narrow your search and compare only properties you decide in advance will be suitable.

Farm (revenue leasing)
Farming is a technique of financial management, namely the process of commuting (changing), by its assignment by legal contract to a third party, a future uncertain revenue stream into fixed and certain periodic rents, in consideration for which commutation a discount in value received is suffered. It is most commonly used in the field of public finance where the state wishes to gain some certainty about its future taxation revenue for the purposes of medium-term budgetting of expenditure. The tax collection process requires considerable expenditure on administration and the yield is uncertain both as to amount and timing, as taxpayers delay or default on their assessed obligations, often the result of unforeseen external forces such as bad weather affecting harvests. Governments (the lessors) have thus frequently over history resorted to the services of an entrepreneurial financier (the tenant) to whom they lease or assign the right to collect and retain the whole of the tax revenue due to the state in return for his payment into the treasury of fixed sums (rent) in exchange.

Stefan Molyneux
Stefan Basil Molyneux (/stɛˈfæn ˈmɑːlɪnjuː/; born September 24, 1966) is a Canadian blogger. Molyneux's areas of interest include anarcho-capitalism, secular ethics, libertarianism, cryptocurrencies, and familial relationships. He is a self-published author and has spoken at libertarian conferences and on podcasts. Molyneux formerly worked in the software industry.
Background
Molyneux was born in Ireland and moved to Canada when he was about 12 years old. After attending the Glendon College of York University, where he was a member of Theatre Glendon and the Debating Society, he attended the National Theatre School of Canada in Montreal. Molyneux received a B.A. in History from McGill University in 1991 and an M.A. in History from University of Toronto in 1993.
In early 1995, he and his brother Hugh founded Caribou Systems Corporation, a Toronto-based provider of environmental database software. Stefan was the salesman for the company. The company was sold in 2000.
Molyneux was raised in the Protestant Christian tradition, however describes himself as an atheist.

How can you save money on your taxes by farming? In this video from www.thisishomesteady.com I share with you the ways we save more than $1000 every year on our tax bill by running a farm business.

One of the benefits to taking the leap from a homestead to an actual farm business is that you generally will be able to take advantage of some tax breaks.
In our state of CT, farmers get a few different tax cuts that we take advantage of. In this video we discuss 2 ways we save over $1000 every year on our tax bill because of farming.
FIRST.. We are exempt from the 6% Sales tax CT has when purchasing farm goods (feed, supplies, materials, etc). We spend a lot of money on feed, building materials, and animals supplies, so this little 6% tax savings adds up to hundreds of dollars every year!
Second... We save on our property tax through the PA 490 program.
Every acre you own is generally taxed through your state property tax program. Farmers generally get a discount on what they pay per acre owned for their properties.
If your thinking about starting your own farm business, be sure to contact an accountant to help you know where to look for tax breaks for your own farm business. The more money you get to keep in your wallet, the more you can spend on new animals and barns!

Write out your thoughts as you answer the following questions:
What will be the primary use you have for the property- immediate and long-term? What is your purpose in buying it?
Are you looking for a presumed permanent stay, or are you buying for an interim period? Maybe only for weekend recreation? For retirement?
Assuming you have determined a budget and allocated a certain amount for this new home and property, what price range are you comfortable with?Are you able to pay cash for the property? Do not forget that taxes and insurance will be added costs associated with your purchase.
How much acreage can you physically manage?
In what area will you look for acreage? Give careful thought to the commute: to and from work, school, place of worship, areas of interest,etc. What is the proximity to your friends and family members? Is there enough shopping and available services in the surrounding area to supply your needs?
Topography is important as it pertains to construction and accessibility. Personal preferences vary and the usefulness of all of your acreage maybe affected. Some love the views. Others can't stand to be stranded in the winter storm. What is the access you will have to your property-does it suffice?
If you can find a parcel with a peaceful spring or creek flowing,or a pond to fish, woods for hunting/ hiking, or pasture for an animal or two, is that of additional interest to you?
Restrictions... know what restrictions you consider tolerable and protective, and which ones you would prefer to avoid. For instance,will you be allowed to construct the home you want on your property now or in the future? Are your pets or animals welcome according to the declaration of restrictions associated with your desired property? What about business activity at your home?
If you need to sell the property in the future: consider the saleability of the property you wish to buy.
Look over your notes and visualize again what your dream property may look like. Try to narrow your search and compare only properties you decide in advance will be suitable.

How can you save money on your taxes by farming? In this video from www.thisishomesteady.com I share with you the ways we save more than $1000 every year on our tax bill by running a farm business.

One of the benefits to taking the leap from a homestead to an actual farm business is that you generally will be able to take advantage of some tax breaks.
In our state of CT, farmers get a few different tax cuts that we take advantage of. In this video we discuss 2 ways we save over $1000 every year on our tax bill because of farming.
FIRST.. We are exempt from the 6% Sales tax CT has when purchasing farm goods (feed, supplies, materials, etc). We spend a lot of money on feed, building materials, and animals supplies, so this little 6% tax savings adds up to hundreds of dollars every year!
Second... We save on our property tax through the PA 490 program.
Every acre you own is generally taxed through your state property tax program. Farmers generally get a discount on what they pay per acre owned for their properties.
If your thinking about starting your own farm business, be sure to contact an accountant to help you know where to look for tax breaks for your own farm business. The more money you get to keep in your wallet, the more you can spend on new animals and barns!

The film opens in 2016 B.C. with Sarman and Hojo and their friends, youths from the ancient village of Amri, travelling in a boat down a narrow river gorge. When attacked by a large man-eating crocodile, Sarman valiantly spears and kills it. They carry it back to the village where they are hailed as heroes. Sarman is unable to sleep: having lost his parents when very young, he is still haunted by a strange tune his aunt hums most days,l whom to trust. His uncle gives him an amulet to be used only in a life or death situation. (Sarman discovers that the amulet contains an inscription of the one-horned animal of his dreams, this animal is also the emblem of the city of Mohenjo Daro.)
Arriving in Mohenjo Daro to sell his wares (indigo) Sarman is stunned by the size and majesty of the city. Its markets attract Macedonian and Sumerian and foreign traders selling strange and exotic wares and animals (including the hitherto unknown horses). Sarman later discovers that Mohenjo Daro is ruled by the tyrant premier Maham and his wicked son Moonja. Maham proposes to levy an additional tax on the farmers; this proposal is supported by all of Maham’s cronies in the city council except the farm representative. The vote is passed and when the farm representative threatens to expose Maham – by revealing why Maham was banished from the neighboring city of Harappa – Maham promptly kills him.
Sarman meets the beautiful Chaani, daughter of the head priest of Mohenjo Daro and the ‘Chosen One’ who will liberate the city and bring a new dawn. He leads the farmers of Mohenjo Daro to oppose Maham’s new taxes. (Maham’s soldiers threaten to kill him but Sarman, speaking for the farmers, says he prefers to die himself over paying the higher taxes which will invariably starve his family.) He gains access to the upper city by brandishing his uncle’s amulet and, after saving Chaani from stampeding horses, he meets her father, the priest who, strangely, appears to recognize him. Sarman and Chaani profess their mutual love for each other but Chaani tearfully reveals that she has been forcibly betrothed to Moonja. After a dance at the new moon festival Maham realizes Sarman and Chaani love each other and that Sarman is the leader of the tax revolt. Maham is about to pronounce death upon Sarman but upon realizing the people are rallying behind him Maham demurs and shrewdly offers Sarman the Bakar-Zokhar challenge. Sarman proposes that if he wins then Chaani will be released from her engagement. It is accepted.
