An air and road trip from Chennai to Delhi then a hire car and driver to Kathgodam to visit our Aunty Nancy. We toured the Nainital Region and Haldwani market.
We had a great time and for Nigel from Pondicherry it was his first meeting with Aunty Nancy and her son Michael.
It is a fascinating part of India and very beautiful, the region is famous with Trekkers, Honeymooners and the Lakes - Tal. Thanks for watching, Nigel Foote from Melbourne.

Haldwani
Haldwani (हल्द्वानी in Hindi, ਹਲਦ੍ਵਾਨੀ in Punjabi) is a city, which along with its twin township of Kathgodam forms the Haldwani-Kathgodam municipal Corporation (since May 2011) in Nainital District in the Indian state of Uttarakhand.
Haldwani is the third most populous city in Uttarakhand (after Dehradun & Haridwar), and is known as the "Gateway of Kumaon". In Kumaoni, the local dialect, the place is called "Halduvani", literally "forest of Haldu", after the tree named "Haldu", often referred to as "Kadamb" (Haldina cordifolia), which was found in abundance prior to deforestation for agriculture and settlement.
In 1816, after the British defeated Gorkhas, Gardner was appointed the Commissioner of Kumaon. Later George William Trail took over as Commissioner and renamed Halduvani as Haldwani in 1834. Though British records suggest that the place was established in 1834, as a mart for hill people who visited the Bhabhar (Himalayan foothills) region, during the cold season.
History
Mughal historians mention that in the 14th century, a local ruler, Gyan Chand of Chand Dynasty, visited Delhi Sultanate and received the regions of Bhabhar- Terai up to the Ganges as a grant from then Sultan. Later, the Mughals tried to take over the hills, but their attempts received a setback due to the difficult terrain.

Hello !! So I am back (once again) !😀 I hope this video helps you in planning you a trip to Nainital. You would need 3 days max to cover all the places there. Day 1: We started at 5:00 am from Delhi and reached Mall Road, Nainital at 11:45 am. It was extremely foggy that day, else we could have reached at least an hour early. After checking into the hotel, we went for a shikara ride in the Naini lake and then just leisurely walked on the mall road. So I am back (once again) !😀
I hope this video helps you in planning you a trip to Nainital.
You would need 3 days max to cover all the places there.
Day 1: We started at 5:00 am from Delhi and reached Mall Road, Nainital at 11:45 am. It was extremely foggy that day, else we could have reached at least an hour early.
After checking into the hotel, we went for a shikara ride in the Naini lake and then just leisurely walked on the mall road. For the dinner, w went to Chandni Chowk restaurant on the mall road for all the 3 days we were there.
Day 2: We booked our taxi in Rs.600 which then took us to 7 tourist attractions in Nainital including: Khurpa taal, Lands End, Tiffin Top, Dorothy's Seat, Himalayan Peak point.
For a round trip to Dorpthy's seat, we opted for the horses instead of trekking. You pay Rs.700 per person.
Lastly, we took the cable car to the mall road. The view from there is breath taking and it almost feels like you are watching a movie. Though, it is a very short ride of less than a min I think, but is definitely a MUST DO.
Day 3: On our last day we booked a taxi to Mukteshwar for Rs. 1500. It takes around 3 hours of drive to reach there. The weather is colder there as compared to the mall road area. It even snowed there. I would suggest your to carry gloves, hats and a nice warm jacket if yo go there in winters.
The 1st stop is the Golu Devta temple followed by the Tea garden and finally you reach Mukteshwar.
The main attraction for me was the point called Chauli ki Jali in Mukteshwar which offers a panormic view of Nainital. It is almost like the peak of the mountain. You can indulge in some adventure sports: zipline. They charge Rs 500 for it.

‘Pending cases between U’khand, UP to be resolved by next month’
