A U.S. Marine Corps Instructor from 2nd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion (2nd LAAD) explains how to fire an FIM-92 Stinger missile. Members of the 2nd LAAD fire Stinger missiles at drone targets during training at Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona. 2nd LAAD uses Stinger surface-to-air missiles to provide close-in, low altitude air defense against enemy aircraft. The FIM-92 Stinger is an infrared homing surface-to-air missile (SAM), Man-Portable Air-Defense System (MANPADS). Filmed on March 27-28, 2015.

U.S. Marines with 2nd Low Altitude Air Defense (2D LAAD), Marine Air Control Group 28, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing participated in a static stinger missile firing during night shoot Training Mission against target drone.
The FIM-92 Stinger missile launcher is a US ground-air short range used to achieve helicopters or low-level fighters. It is like "fire and forget".
The ground-to-air Stinger missile launcher laptop, officially known as the FIM-92A was developed for the US Army and the US Marine Corps by the Pomona department of General Dynamics, which had already made the FIM-43 Redeye. This department was absorbed by Raytheon Electronic Systems in 1992 which is responsible for manufacturing at its plant in Tucson.
It is distinguished by larger operational capabilities (it can especially destroy an aircraft flying toward the shooter), better range and greater maneuverability. It has a target identification system and is less susceptible to enemy against-measures.

A stinger or sting is a sharp organ found in various animals (typically arthropods) that delivers venom (usually piercing the skin of another animal). A true sting differs from other piercing structures in that it pierces by its own action and injects venom, as opposed to teeth, which pierce by the force of opposing jaws. Stinging hairs which actively inject venom on plants such as nettles are also known as stings, but not stingers.
The main type of construction of stings is a sharp organ of offense or defense, especially when connected with a venom gland, and adapted to inflict a wound by piercing; as the caudal sting of a scorpion. The wasp has a very painful sting, and will sting if it feels threatened.
Stings are usually located at the rear of the animal. Animals with stings include bees, wasps (including hornets) and scorpions.Ants have venom glands but no stinger; instead, they eject the venom forcibly.

Plot: Cop-hating Johnny Strabler is recounting the fateful events that led up to the "whole mess" as he calls it, his role in the mess and whether he could have stopped it from happening. The Black Rebels, a motorcycle gang of which Johnny is the leader, cause a ruckus using intimidation wherever they go, with their actions bordering on the unlawful. On the day of the mess, they invade a motorcycle racing event, at which they cause a general disturbance culminating with one of the gang members stealing a second place trophy to give to Johnny. Despite not being the larger winning trophy, it symbolizes to Johnny his leadership within the group. Their next stop is a small town where their disturbance and intimidation tactics continue. Some in town don't mind their arrival as long as they spend money. Harry Bleeker, the local sheriff, doesn't much like them but is so ineffective and weak that he doesn't do anything to stop them, much to the annoyance of some of the other townsfolk, who see the gang as being a criminal element not to be tolerated. Johnny is attracted to the innocent Kathie Bleeker, the waitress at the local café, who is initially intimidated by Johnny and the gang. His feelings change when he learns she is Sheriff Bleeker's daughter. The actions of the gang escalates when the Beetles, a splinter group of the Black Rebels, arrive in town. As things start to get out of hand between the gangs, some of the townsfolk, such as Charlie Thomas who is in his own right a bully albeit one of the "establishment", decide to take matters into their own hands. But Kathie may make Johnny change his beliefs, especially about what is happening this day in the town.

The FIM-92 Stinger is a personal portable infrared homing surface-to-air missile developed in the United States and entered into service in 1981. Used by the militaries of the U.S. and by 29 other countries, the basic Stinger missile has to-date been responsible for 270 confirmed aircraft kills. It is manufactured by Raytheon Missile Systems and under license by EADS in Germany, with 70,000 missiles produced. It is classified as a Man-Portable Air-Defense System (MANPADS). Used by the militaries of the U.S. and by 29 other countries, the basic Stinger missile has to-date been responsible for 270 confirmed aircraft kills. It is manufactured by Raytheon Missile Systems and under license by EADS in Germany, with 70,000 missiles produced. It is classified as a Man-Portable Air-Defense System (MANPADS).
The Central Intelligence Agency supplied nearly 500 Stingers (some sources claim 1,5002,000) to the Mujahideen fighting Soviet forces in Afghanistan during Operation Cyclone, the Soviet war in Afghanistan in the 1980s, where they were used quite successfully.[vague] After the 1989 Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan, the United States attempted to buy back the Stinger missiles, with a 55 million dollar program to buy back around 300 missiles (US$183,300 each). The U.S. government collected most of the Stingers it had delivered, but some of them found their way into Iran, Qatar and North Korea. Also, as part of its effort to overthrow Angola's government, the Reagan administration provided Stingers to UNITA anti-government fighters in the late 1980s. In both cases, efforts to recover missiles after the end of hostilities proved incomplete. There has been speculation that the reason the Stinger has not been used in further attacks is because the batteries that are needed for the launcher to function have expired. However, local indigenous version of stinger missiles fielded by the Pakistani Army was used in the Kargil War and shot down an Indian Air Force Mi-8 Helicopter and a MiG-21 aircraft, as well as damaging a Canberra reconnaissance aircraft. Pakistan has begun phasing out its inventory of the original American made models completely. The Pakistan indigenous Stinger missile is said to contain an improved IR seeker to better follow its intended target.[
