On April 28, the Charlotte Observer reported on just how successful the Hornets' guard combo of Kemba Walker and Jeremy Lin has been in this series. The two players sometimes share the court together, but Lin has been playing a role of backup off the bench. So far, they've combined for 59 free-throw attempts in the series, and had over 50 points in the Game 3 win. Charlotte has now won three-straight games against Miami, and much of it is due to the emergence of Lin, who had seemingly been missing in action for the first two games. Lin and Walker also were able to help the team hit more three's on the road in their Game 5 win. Walker, was quoted as saying, "(When) me and Jeremy are in attack mode, getting into the lane, we’re able to dish the ball out and get some (open) 3s. It’s definitely helped us, especially last game."
As for the Miami Heat, they have been notably upset with non-calls, possibly "flopping" and as Hassan Whiteside told the media regarding Lin, "We’ve just got to watch out for him because he likes to throw his arms into people." Miami will now have a chance to make this series even more interesting by forcing a decisive Game 7. They nearly put themselves in position to be up 3-2 going to Charlotte, but there was a late non-call on a Wade drive to the hoop and the Hornets prevailed by two points in the win. The league later confirmed that it was a good non-call, but Miami remained displeased. Wade finished with 25 points on 11-for-19 shooting in the loss but only had a few trips to the line all night. It won't be surprising if the multi-time champion player drives much more to the hoop in an attempt to draw those fouls, and hope the refs are in support of his case.
Heading into tonight's crucial game, Miami has their backs against the wall and is a two point underdog as of this report. The Hornets are 21-17-1 against the spread when they're the favorites and 20-20-1 at home. Miami is just 18-22-1 ATS on the road and 14-16 ATS as an underdog. On the moneyline, Charlotte is a -125 favorite with the visiting Heat a +105 underdog. The consensus over/under at Vegas Insider is 192-1/2 points for the full game, but it may be found slightly higher at 193. Future odds have Charlotte listed as 100 to 1 favorites to win the NBA Championship with Miami right below them at 150 to 1 odds to win it all.
