Jeff Gordon’s crew chief Alan Gustafson provides an all access tour.
(Season 1, episode 5): Formula Drift Champion Chris Forsberg takes us on a tour of garages around the country, from professional outfits to grassroots backyard garages. In this episode, Forsberg gets exclusive access to Hendrick Motorsports complex outside of Charlotte, North Carolina with Jeff Gordon’s crew chief Alan Gustafson as his guide. Hendrick Motorsports is home to four NASCAR Sprint Cup teams with some of the biggest names in motorsports at the wheel including Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. At this sprawling 100-acre complex, cars and engines are built from the ground up and then rebuilt after every race. Forsberg gets a look into the facilities that handle these major builds including the machine shop and suspension room, then checks out some of the builds in progress including a unique look into the custom safety equipment used to keep their star drivers safe. Gustafson more than convinces us of that which we already knew—Hendrick Motorsports deserves its reputation as one of the finest garage complexes in the country. 'Chase Elliott's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rookie Year'
This tour includes the Administration building, Jimmie Johnson & Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s race shop, Chase Elliott & Kasey Kahne's race shop and the Hendrick Motorsports Museum. The sound in the background at 0:06 is one of one of the Hendrick engines being fired up which was loud enough to be heard over the entire campus and what you see is a Hendrick Motorsports sign behind the parked white van. That sign is the original sign that has been at Hendrick Motorsports which has been at that same spot for decades before the property was expanded. Just to the left and behind the Administration Building at 0:22, is a long set of garages. In 1984 the only structures on this property which was owned by Harry Hyde was his house and these set of garages. Hyde let Rick Hendrick previously store his boats in these garages and in 1984 Rick Hendrick rented 5,000 feet of space out of these set of garages that still exist today to form Hendrick Motorsports.
The tour of the Chase Elliott and Kasey Kahne race shop begins at 0:52. Even though it has only been 12 days into the new year, Elliott's new 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series #24 NAPA Chevrolet SS has already been put on display in the lobby replacing retired Jeff Gordon's 2015 #24 Axalta Chevrolet SS from last year. In the shop at 4:53 a black #24 Chevrolet SS can be seen. This is the car Elliott drove in a one day Goodyear tire test at Homestead-Miami Speedway on December 14, 2015 which was his first time in the #24 car. Another angle of the car at 5:17 shows the NAPA logo that is on the hood. Hendrick Motorsports placed a partition in front of the car making it difficult for the public to take photos or video of it. Also in the shop is cars driven by Gordon in 2015 that are being taken apart along with the car Kasey Kahne drove in the 2015 Ford EcoBoost 400 (only car in the shop that has a yellow 5 number).

NASCAR fans will already know that it was through Hendrick Motorsports that Haas Automation originally came to the sport, initially as a sponsor and supplier of CNC machine tools. In 2004, Haas Automation founder and owner, Gene Haas, established his own team, Haas CNC Racing, in partnership with Hendrick.
With the advent of Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) in 2008, the partnership between the two teams evolved, and to this day, SHR uses Hendrick engines and chassis, and the Hendrick machine shop, on its 100-acre campus, is almost entirely Haas.
Needless to say, SHR also has a machine shop composed entirely of Haas CNC machine tools, which it uses to make a wide range of parts for its three race teams. The Stewart-Haas machine shop includes eight CNC vertical machining centers and four CNC turning centers, all of which are run by just 5 machine operators.

On October 31, 2004, Jimmie Johnson won the Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 at Atlanta. This wasn't just another win for Hendrick Motorsports; this win was healing for the entire race team after the tragic plane crash that claimed the lives of ten passengers on a Hendrick Motorsports aircraft just one week earlier. This is a tribute video for that emotional day and the major events leading up to it.

Forsberg gets a look into the facilities that handle these major builds including the machine shop and suspension room, then checks out some of the builds in progress including a unique look into the custom safety equipment used to keep their star drivers safe. 'Chase Elliott's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rookie Year'
This tour includes the Administration building, Jimmie Johnson & Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s race shop, Chase Elliott & Kasey Kahne's race shop and the Hendrick Motorsports Museum. The sound in the background at 0:06 is one of one of the Hendrick engines being fired up which was loud enough to be heard over the entire campus and what you see is a Hendrick Motorsports sign behind the parked white van. That sign is the original sign that has been at Hendrick Motorsports which has been at that same spot for decades before the property was expanded. Just to the left and behind the Administration Building at 0:22, is a long set of garages. In 1984 the only structures on this property which was owned by Harry Hyde was his house and these set of garages. Hyde let Rick Hendrick previously store his boats in these garages and in 1984 Rick Hendrick rented 5,000 feet of space out of these set of garages that still exist today to form Hendrick Motorsports.
The tour of the Chase Elliott and Kasey Kahne race shop begins at 0:52. Even though it has only been 12 days into the new year, Elliott's new 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series #24 NAPA Chevrolet SS has already been put on display in the lobby replacing retired Jeff Gordon's 2015 #24 Axalta Chevrolet SS from last year. In the shop at 4:53 a black #24 Chevrolet SS can be seen. This is the car Elliott drove in a one day Goodyear tire test at Homestead-Miami Speedway on December 14, 2015 which was his first time in the #24 car. Another angle of the car at 5:17 shows the NAPA logo that is on the hood. Hendrick Motorsports placed a partition in front of the car making it difficult for the public to take photos or video of it. Also in the shop is cars driven by Gordon in 2015 that are being taken apart along with the car Kasey Kahne drove in the 2015 Ford EcoBoost 400 (only car in the shop that has a yellow 5 number).

NASCAR fans will already know that it was through Hendrick Motorsports that Haas Automation originally came to the sport, initially as a sponsor and supplier of CNC machine tools. In 2004, Haas Automation founder and owner, Gene Haas, established his own team, Haas CNC Racing, in partnership with Hendrick.
With the advent of Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) in 2008, the partnership between the two teams evolved, and to this day, SHR uses Hendrick engines and chassis, and the Hendrick machine shop, on its 100-acre campus, is almost entirely Haas.
Needless to say, SHR also has a machine shop composed entirely of Haas CNC machine tools, which it uses to make a wide range of parts for its three race teams. The Stewart-Haas machine shop includes eight CNC vertical machining centers and four CNC turning centers, all of which are run by just 5 machine operators.
