Products are the species formed from chemical reactions. During a chemical reaction reagents are transformed into products after passing through a high energy transition state. This process results in the consumption of the reagents. It can be a spontaneous reaction or mediated by catalysts which lower the energy of the transition state, and by solvents which provide the chemical environment necessary for the reaction to take place. When represented in chemical equations products are by convention drawn on the right-hand side, even in the case of reversible reactions. The properties of products such as their energies help determine several characteristics of a chemical reaction such as whether the reaction is exergonic or endergonic. Additionally the properties of a product can make it easier to extract and purify following a chemical reaction, especially if the product has a different state of matter than the reactants.
Much of chemistry research is focused on the synthesis and characterization of beneficial products, as well as the detection and removal of undesirable products. Synthetic chemists can be subdivided into research chemists who design new chemicals and pioneer new methods for synthesizing chemicals, as well as process chemists who scale up chemical production and make it safer, more environmentally sustainable, and more efficient. Other fields include natural product chemists who isolate products created by living organisms and then characterize and study these products.

Biology is a natural science concerned with the study of life and living organisms, including their structure, function, growth, evolution, distribution, and taxonomy. Modern biology is a vast and eclectic field, composed of many branches and subdisciplines. However, despite the broad scope of biology, there are certain general and unifying concepts within it that govern all study and research, consolidating it into single, coherent fields. In general, biology recognizes the cell as the basic unit of life, genes as the basic unit of heredity, and evolution as the engine that propels the synthesis and creation of new species. It is also understood today that all organisms survive by consuming and transforming energy and by regulating their internal environment to maintain a stable and vital condition.
Subdisciplines of biology are defined by the scale at which organisms are studied, the kinds of organisms studied, and the methods used to study them: biochemistry examines the rudimentary chemistry of life; molecular biology studies the complex interactions among biological molecules; botany studies the biology of plants; cellular biology examines the basic building-block of all life, the cell; physiology examines the physical and chemical functions of tissues, organs, and organ systems of an organism; evolutionary biology examines the processes that produced the diversity of life; and ecology examines how organisms interact in their environment.
CLEAR & SIMPLE - This video tutorial show how to solve Chemical Reactions...which is also called Predicting the Products.
In this lecture for the Emory course "Botanical Medicine and Health", Dr. Cassandra Quave discusses some of the major classes of medically relevant compounds from plants. After this lecture, students should be able to answer the following questions: 1) What are the major classes of medically relevant natural products derived from plants? 2) What are plant secondary metabolites and why do plants make them? 3) How do indigenous people use sensory clues from plants to understand their chemistry and potential for medicinal use? This series 'Students of Product Design' is aimed at anyone interested in the product design process. This first episode looks at innovation, how to innovate and how simply changing the structure of the brief can impact on how innovative you can be. This series won't just talk about stuff, the plan is to share with you as many of the things I have learnt in the last 15 years (or so..) as possible through each stage of the design process to help you become far better designers than I can ever be. I'll be looking at research, sketching, model making, portfolios and a whole load of other things. I often think of youtube as a speed learning tool. Have you ever seen the Matrix films where Neo first learns martial arts by uploading a programme to his head or Trinity learns to fly a helicopte...

Hi Everyone! So in this video I discuss how I studied for biology and how I did well in my classes. I know that some of you are going to be like..... she technically didn't get an A in all of her bio classes, but I received an A in a majority of them which is why I titled this video "how to get an A in biology". I hope you guys enjoy and although I reference a lot of other videos I hope you guys understand! Thank you so much for watching! The brilliant little 4-year-old is back to share some new knowledge, and try her hand at speaking whale!
How does a robin know to fly south? The answer might be weirder than you think: Quantum physics may be involved. Jim Al-Khalili rounds up the extremely new, extremely strange world of quantum biology, where something Einstein once called “spooky action at a distance” helps birds navigate, and quantum effects might explain the origin of life itself. Biology mysteries exist all over the place. They can be as small in size as cancerous cells, or as large and imposing as the majestic blue whale. And even though science has been able to uncover many wonders of our world’s biological make up, it still has a long way to go. For example, we still haven’t deciphered Peto’s Paradox. Or pinpointed with certainty the origin of flowers or even the origin of the Ebola virus! That’s only scratching the surface, we still don’t know what the vast majority of our DNA does or how butterflies migrate exactly. Talk about a mess of biological mysteries! It’s a good thing our species is a curious species because we are currently working hard to uncover these mysteries, discoveries that could propel humanity into a new age of prosperity and health. Take the...
