JEDDAH: After the third week of matches, the stage is set for the women’s semifinal and men’s final in the Makati Express Cargo-Sarawat Superstores 1st Kalayaan Volleyball Cup 2016 at the Trio Ranch & Country Club in Briman District here.
Led by Best Player Donna Mae Villaflor, Dr. Suleiman Fakeeh Hospital got the ball rolling last Friday by beating Saudi German Hospital in straight sets 25-12, 28-26 in the first game.
Jeddah Blue Spikers then sealed their place in the men’s final opposite Play Time, overcoming a strong challenge by Saudi German Hospital in the second set to score a 25-10, 26-24 victory in the second game. Named Best Player was Mark Salarda.
In what could well be a preview of the men’s championship Play Time beat Jeddah Blue Spikers in the nightcap of a quadruplebill 25-13, 23-25, 15-6. Joseph Albert Gajo had the highest points in the match and went to grab Best Player honors for Play Time.
Play Time finished the double round robin eliminations at 4-0. Blue Spikers are on 2-2 and at 0-4 is SGH, whose participation in this tournament is supported by the management namely CEO Mohamed Gamal, HR Manager Ahmed Ali, HR Supervisor & SGHVC Director, and Bhel Rojo Ellevera, SGHVC chairwoman.
NGHA-KAMC brought down Dr. Erfan Bagedo Hospital in grueling three sets 25-18, 24-26, 15-13 to complete a 3-0 sweep in the women’s division, with Benilyn Valida as the Best Player of the game.
In this Friday’s women’s crossover semifinal No. 1 NGHA-KAMC plays fourth-ranked SGH and DSFH, the No. 2 semifinalist, takes on No. 3 DEBH.
